For sale is a 1962 Chrysler New Yorker 4-dr Sedan. The documentation I received with the car outlines 4 previous owners, though I cannot be certain that the documentation is complete. I have owned the car since May of 2011, at which point the odometer read about 33,000 miles. Over the course of my ownership, I have made a few minor repairs/improvements, but mostly just driven and enjoyed the car, which is currently licensed and insured and driven approximately once a week. During my ownership, it has been garage kept.
The engine is the original 413 ci v8 rated at 340 hp and 470 ft-lbs torque. The transmission is the original Torqueflite 727 3-speed, followed by a 2.93:1 rear axle. I have records indicating replacement of the water pump, thermostat, and basic tuneup items. I rebuilt the original Carter AFB 4-barrel carburetor. The engine is strong, with very little blowby, excellent responsiveness, near-silent operation, and 13-mpg average fuel economy. It is so smooth and quiet that it often feels like it has stopped running at traffic lights. Cosmetically, the finish on the engine is in poor condition, but there are no major fluid leaks. I wouldn't hesitate to drive cross-country.
In addition to the carburetor rebuild, I installed a pair of new Eaton Detroit Spring rear leaf springs arched for stock ride height and adjusted the front torsion bars to specification. At purchase, a set of Imperial springs had been installed on the car, which gave incorrect ride height and stiffness. I inspected the brake system and had the dual-diaphragm power booster rebuilt. Braking performance is excellent. Also new are all 4 tires, which I replaced with correct BF Goodrich Silvertown 8.50-14 bias-plys from Coker Tire. The fuel tank was removed and relined with KBS Coatings product.
At some point, the body was given what appears to have been an inexpensive respray. The trim was not removed, but masked off. Prior to my ownership, the car sat outside in full sun for several years, which has faded and oxidized the paint on top of the hood, roof, trunk, and other upward-facing areas. There are a few minor spots of the first signs of corrosion near the chrome and stainless trim on the car. There has been moisture in the trunk, which at some point was brushed with a red paint, but there is no rust through there or anywhere on the body that I have found. The original undercoat still covers the underside of the car. There is minor body damage on the passenger front fender where a close swipe must have pulled the side Chrysler emblem off the fender, leaving a shallow dent and somewhat flattening the stainless trim around the wheel arch. There is a shallow dent under the driver side taillight, and a more noticeable dent in the rear bumper. Otherwise, the body is straight and solid.
The dash pad and upholstery have also suffered from the solar exposure; the pad has some cracks and a sun-burned texture on the top surfaces and the upholstery is faded and the seams have separated as it has become dry and fairly brittle. Needless to say, these items would need to be renewed for the interior to present well. All of the metalwork and paint inside the car are in good condition. The chrome could use polish but should shine up very nicely. The headliner is excellent, as is all glass.
Overall, this car is an unmolested, mostly original example of the '62 New Yorker. It was initially delivered in Schenectady, NY to a lady who clearly seldom drove it. The driver door jamb wears two Texaco stickers from 1978 and 1979, bearing the odometer readings 32422 and 32674, respectively. It currently reads 39342, and knowing its history back to 2003, and given the operational refinement of the chassis and drivetrain, I believe that to be actual mileage. I haven't driven a new '62 New Yorker, but I can't imagine that this car's ride, handling, power, braking, comfort, and refinement have significantly deteriorated. It is a pleasure to drive. I have chosen to sell it in order to focus on another classic project. A modest investment in restoration would yield a like-new car to be enjoyed for years to come. I have a clear NC title in my own name.

Next Chrysler Town & Country will have foot-operated rear doors
Mon, Aug 31 2015Families are still months away from actually seeing the next-gen Chrysler Town & Country debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, but details are continuing to trickle out about the upcoming minivan. Among several features rumored in the latest leak, the sliding doors and rear hatch are reportedly optional with foot activation, according to Automotive News. It should make loading the van easier for owners with their hands full. The T&C's powertrain sees some efficiency improvements, too. Under the hood, expect an upgraded version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and the already rumored nine-speed automatic, according to Automotive News. For the all-wheel-drive version of the minivan, an electric motor would provide the propulsion at the rear axle. Inside, all of the passengers can arrive with their devices fully charged thanks to USB ports for each of the three rows. Plus, for owners who need to make room to haul, the Stow 'N Go seating is now easier to use, too. Like the latest Honda Odyssey, fastidious buyers might even spec an optional vacuum. Earlier spy shots of the van indicate the switch to a rotary gearshift and upgraded infotainment, as well. Following the Detroit debut, the T&C goes into production in Windsor, Ontario, in late February 2016, Automotive News reports. The plug-in hybrid version would come towards the end of the year possibly capable of 75 mpge.
Supplier says Jeep Cherokee hack only affects FCA cars
Wed, Aug 5 2015Harman doesn't think that drivers need to worry about any further hacks of its products. The company supplies FCA's Uconnect infotainment system where a software vulnerability is responsible for a 1.4-million vehicle recall. "This experimental hack is unique to Chrysler," Harman CEO Dinesh Paliwal said to Automotive News. "This does not exist, to our assessment, in any other vehicle." The reason that the company wouldn't be involved is that automakers aren't simply plugging in the existing infotainment systems into new vehicles. According to Paliwal, Harman supplies the unit, but FCA and other automakers are able to make additional modifications for their vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has also recently taken up the question of broader software vulnerabilities in Harman's products. On July 29, the agency began investigating the company to check for similarities between Uconnect and the infotainment systems supplied to other automakers. The Jeep hack became national news when two researchers were remotely able to take control of a Cherokee. The vulnerability in the cellular connection even gave control over the brakes. "Once people get in the car and get into the CAN bus, then you can start to mimic and mess up many, many things in the car," Paliwal said to Automotive News. Politicians immediately responded with legislation to create federal standards in hopes of protecting drivers better. 4 ways FCA-PSA merger could be a plus
Thu, Oct 31 2019DETROIT — In a merger deal announced overnight, Fiat Chrysler stands to gain electric vehicle technology while PSA Peugeot Citroen could benefit from a badly needed dealership network to reach its goal of selling vehicles in the U.S. The merger would create the world's fourth-largest automaker with a combined market value of around $50 billion. Neither company would comment. Experts say the two automakers will be able to share car, SUV and commercial vehicle designs, helping each other fill weaknesses and share costs that will make them a strong global player. "We view the combination of these two companies as reasonable given global competition, high capital intensity, and industry disruption from electrified powertrain as well as autonomous technologies," Morningstar analyst Richard Hilgert wrote in a note to investors. Here are four areas that could be crucial to the two automakers' success: Technology For years, Fiat Chrysler has lagged its rivals in electric vehicle technology, with its former CEO once trying to discourage people from buying its only fully electric car in the United States, the Fiat 500E, because he lost money on each sale. The company has made progress on gas-electric hybrids and may have plans for more fully electric vehicles, but PSA has valuable technology that FCA can use, said Navigant Research analyst Sam Abuelsamid. Peugeot was relatively late to the electric vehicle game but is now working fast to catch up, notably with fellow French rival Renault. CEO Carlos Tavares has made a point of stressing the company's need to adapt to changing technology at car shows and earnings calls. Last year he announced plans to offer 40 electric models across its lineup by 2025. "Electrification hasn't been a huge part of their play up until now," Abuelsamid said. "Between the two of them, I think they could generate some scale for whatever they're doing, sharing component costs, development costs across electrical platforms," he said. More electric vehicles also would help FCA meet pollution and fuel economy regulations in Europe. As far as autonomous vehicles, neither company is among the leaders, Abuelsamid said. But that's a technology that's years into the future, giving them time to share the huge expenses and catch up together. FCA also has alliances with other companies such as Google spinoff Waymo that could bring autonomous vehicle technology to the market when ready, Abuelsamid said.
