1982 Chrysler Le Baron. It has the 2.6 Mitsubishi engine and auto trans. The car runs and drives and everything works. The A/C is a little low on R-12 but still operates properly. The engine runs and is mechanically sound, but needs a carb rebuild as it runs a little erratically. There was a problem with the ignition module and it was replaced with a MSD 6-AL and coil. It was my intention to convert it to a V8 rear wheel drive and would need the MSD at one point. It has two new rear tires and the front tires have a lot of tread left on them. The body is in great shape but the paint is fading. The top operates fine but the vinyl is dried out and cracking. This is a great little car that just needs a little attention as it has been sitting for a few years now and the New Mexico sun is not doing it any favors. Could Chrysler leave Michigan for Tennessee?
Tue, 18 Jun 2013Detroit's Big Three could become the Big Two. According to an AP report in The Detroit News, state officials have been lobbying for Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne to select Tennessee as the location for Fiat's joint headquarters with Chrysler Group LLC.
This weekend, Marchionne met with Tennessee governor Bill Haslam at a ceremony celebrating the expansion of a Fiat subsidiary plant in the city of Pulaski. The AP report does not mention any serious talks about headquarters relocation, only that Tennessee officials have been "working me over pretty well," according to Marchionne.
Fiat hopes to complete its merger with the Auburn Hills-based automaker sometime next year, and earlier reports have stated that the company is seeking $10 billion in financing to buy the remaining bits of Chrysler. If the company were to relocate, it would join Nissan and Volkswagen in having major American automotive operations in Tennessee. Of course, that whole "Imported From Detroit" thing would need to go out the window, as well.
Marchionne completed Fiat-Chrysler deal from a Florida beach
Fri, 03 Jan 2014Sergio Marchionne is the CEO of Fiat, which as you may have heard, has finally worked up a deal to finish acquiring the Chrysler Group after months of bargaining with the United Auto Workers and its VEBA healthcare trust, which owned just over 40 percent of the American brand. Where was Marchionne when the deal was finally hammered out? Well, not tucked away in a frigid Detroit board room until the wee hours of the morning.
Nope, one of the largest deals in automotive history was reportedly hammered out on the beach - at the home of a banker, in the Florida resort town of Vero Beach. Marchionne traveled to the home of Alain Lebec, a senior managing director at Brock Capital LLC, one of the advisory companies for the VEBA fund, where both sides met to make final arrangements in the $4.35-billion exchange. The location of the final deal, though, is nearly as remarkable as the pace with which it came about.
According to anonymous sources pinned down by Automotive News Europe, before the meeting, the two sides were meeting in Detroit as recently as December 19, which is where Fiat made one of its final revised offers. Naturally, the VEBA made a counter offer, which led Marchionne to initiate the Vero Beach meeting.
