You are bidding on an original two-owner Persian White 1964 Chrysler Imperial Crown Coupe with 88,534 original miles.   The Crown Coupe is Chrysler’s desirable and attractive two-door hardtop luxury performance model. Custom-ordered through the California ordering district, the car sold new through Kohlenburg Chrysler Plymouth in Reno, Nevada.  It has spent the last 30 years of its’ life in sunny, dry Walla Walla Washington. This car is as close to showroom perfect as you're likely to ever find. The car has literally been garaged since new, and maintained meticulously.

This particular Imperial Crown Coupe features its’ numbers-matching original high-performance 413 4-barrel engine and heavy-duty 727 push-button automatic transmission.  The car is in perfect running and driving condition; you can slide in and drive this classic anywhere across the country.

I could literally not find single dent in the bodywork, nor trace of rust.  The original Persian White paint shines like  a brand-new car. The stainless steel and chrome trim are also similarly in virtually flawless condition. I've gone about the car with keen eyes and can find only two small dings anywhere on the trim.  Even the original tinted glass still looks like new.  It is very difficult to capture the quality of the paint, the fit and finish of the panels, and the beautiful condition of the chrome, stainless, and glass... I've done my best, but in this case you will find that the car actually appears even more beautiful in person than in pictures; certainly an exception to the general rule.  Original steel 15” wheels with factory fancy hubcaps are wearing nice vintage-style whitewall radial tires. I would rate the exterior a solid 9.0 of 10 if not higher.

The interior is fully loaded with virtually every option you can think of, including “Auto Pilot” cruise control and automatic headlight dimmer sensor.  The original dash gauge cluster was sent out for professional cleaning and cosmetic restoration by the previous owner, and both looks and works as new.  The Imperial features a full power package including power windows, antennae, seat, trunk release, Auto Pilot cruise control, and more.  The factory Air Conditioning is complete and in working order, although needing a recharge. Literally everything on this car works: all power windows, locks, trunk release, power seat, wipers, turn signals, brake lights, head lights, and small things including the radio, radio seek mechanism, horn, power antennae, interior courtesy lights, glove box courtesy light, trunk courtesy light, etc.  The dash vents are in perfect unbroken condition, and rotate upward as they should.  Similarly, the lower heat outlets also rotate up when the heat is shut off... so many cool and futuristic features.

The original red leather interior is almost as pristine as the exterior. The dash pad is flawless, the chrome, painted, and brushed stainless steel trim is exceptional, the steering wheel is without cracks or other damage, the door panels and back seat still look like new. The front features bucket seats with a center "buddy seat" that folds down into an arm rest, and the back bench features a matching fold-down center arm rest to give the interior a sporty "four-seater" look if desired.  The off-white headliner is in perfect condition without a rip or tear, as are the visors, including the passenger “vanity” visor with mirror.  The front seats and front carpet show minor wear, but still present extremely well.  Overall, I would conservatively rate the interior a solid 8.0-8.5 of 10

The brake system has been fully rebuilt, including master cylinder, power booster, wheel cylinders, and soft lines. The fuel system has been rebuilt including new fuel tank, lines, fuel pump, and carburetor. I just installed a new battery. The previous owner installed a new true dual Flow Master exhaust system, which sounds fantastic and shows off the 413's power under acceleration, as should be the case.  New shock absorbers help keep the car driving like new.

The car is 100% original with the exception of the new replacement carburetor, open-element air cleaner, and the new exhaust system.

The car has just been tuned and had the fluids replaced, and again is in turnkey running and driving condition.  It runs and drives extremely well, and does not require anything to be your vintage weekend run-about, or daily driver.

Included with the car are the original factory dealer order invoice, original operator's manual with warranty card (serial-number matching/stamped), the original 1964 Imperial dealership brochure, and the original factory maintenance and repair manual, all of which came with the car when sold new.  The trunk is also pristine and features the original full-sized decorative whitewall spare tire, full steel spare tire cover, original jack, jacking instructions, and floor mat.

I doubt you'll ever find another 1964 Imperial Crown Coupe this nice and unmolested. $11,500.00 cash will buy it now.  You may call me at 360-936-9257 to discuss. Clear WA title and lifetime collector plates.  Title VIN matches car VIN exactly for out-of-state inspection if required.

While every effort is being made to describe the vehicle accurately, it is in fact a 50-year-old classic and therefore being sold as-is, without warranty or guarantee expressed, written, or implied.  No zero-feedback or low-feedback bidders without contacting me first, please.

Please be prepared to make payment in full within 3 days of auction close via Bank of America deposit into my account, bank wire transfer, or MAJOR bank cashier’s check.  I will verify that funds have fully cleared the issuing bank prior to releasing the title and vehicle.  Shipping is the full responsibility of the buyer; I will make myself available for loading.  I will store the car for you at no cost for two or three weeks for you to find your best deal on shipping.

You may call me at 360-936-9257 with any questions you may have.  As an aside, I believe I can obtain the original carb and air cleaner for the buyer; IF SO, I will box and ship them to you at no additional cost... may take a month or two if I can make it happen.  I cannot guarantee this, but I believe I can make it happen.

Chrysler Recalls Jeep SUVs For Ignition Switches

Wed, Jul 23 2014

The ignition switch defects that engulfed General Motors are now a rapidly growing problem at Chrysler. Chrysler said Tuesday it is recalling up to 792,300 older Jeep SUVs worldwide because the ignition switches could fall out of the "run" position, shutting off the engine and disabling air bags as well as power-assisted steering and braking. That's the same problem that has forced GM to recall more than 15 million cars over the last six months. Chrysler's recall covers 2005-2007 Grand Cherokees and 2006-2007 Commanders. The company said it is not sure exactly how many will be recalled, but said it will notify customers by mid-September. Chrysler said an outside force such as a driver's knee can knock switches out of the "run" position. Engineers are working on a fix. The Auburn Hills, Michigan-based automaker, now part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, said it knows of no related injuries and only one accident. But it said owners should keep clearance between their knees and keys until repairs are made. Chrysler has now recalled more than 1.7 million vehicles for ignition-switch problems. In June, the company added 696,000 minivans and SUVs to a 2011 recall to fix faulty ignition switches. Those recalls covered Dodge Journey SUVs and Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan and Volkswagen Routan minivans - which Chrysler made for the German automaker - from the 2007 to 2010 model years. Tuesday's recall is the outgrowth of two investigations opened by U.S. safety regulators last month as part of a broader probe into ignition-switch and air-bag problems across the auto industry. The agency wouldn't say Tuesday whether its investigation could lead to recalls at other automakers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in June that it was investigating Jeep Commanders and Grand Cherokees after getting 32 complaints that a driver's knee can hit the key fob or key chain, causing the ignition switch to move out of position. The federal investigation is still open. The agency said Tuesday that it is requesting additional information from Chrysler to ensure that its repairs will be effective. The investigations and recalls come after GM bungled an ignition-switch recall of older small cars. GM acknowledged that it knew of the ignition problem for more than a decade but failed to recall the cars until earlier this year, when it recalled 2.6 million small cars such as the Chevrolet Cobalt.

UAW may be key to forced FCA merger with GM

Wed, Jul 29 2015

Sergio Marchionne doesn't give up on a business deal easily. While outwardly not much has recently been said about FCA's attempted merger with General Motors, Marchionne might be hoping to garner a powerful, new ally that could help break things wide open. The United Auto Workers retiree health care trust is the single largest shareholder of GM with 8.7 percent of the stock, and having its support would certainly improve FCA's position in getting a deal done. "Whatever happens in terms of consolidation, it would never be done without the consent and support of the UAW," Marchionne said when FCA recently began contract talks with the UAW, The Detroit News reports. The boss is also allegedly on good terms with the union president Dennis Williams. Still, using the organization for a hostile takeover could be very difficult because of the way its votes are structured. Other activist investors might already be on board, though. Marchionne believes that consolidation in the industry is vital because automakers are investing to create the same technologies. A GM/FCA merger still has many roadblocks, though, including the fact that Marchionne's company is smaller than GM. From a regulatory perspective, the size of the merged company could raise serious anti-trust concerns among regulators, according to The Detroit News. There's also the concern for lost jobs from redundant work with the two combined businesses. Even if the UAW angle doesn't work out, there are contingency plans afoot for other merger targets. According to The Detroit News speaking to anonymous insiders, FCA bigwigs have a meeting in London on Thursday to take a close look at other options. In addition to GM, they are investigating possible deals with Volkswagen and the Renault-Nissan Alliance. In the past, PSA Peugeot Citroen and multiple Asian automakers have also been brought up as partners, and UBS has reportedly been providing financial advice on what to do.

Vans aren't glamorous, but they're key to EU blessing FCA-PSA merger

Thu, Jun 18 2020

MILAN/PARIS — Their silhouettes don't stir dreams of adventure like a sports car or trendy SUV, but vans are a rare source of profit for European carmakers, which is why EU regulators are focused on them as they decide whether to back an industry mega-merger. European competition regulators are worried that Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot maker PSA's proposed merger may harm competition in small vans. With a total of 755,000 vans sold last year in Europe, the combined Fiat Chrysler (FCA) and PSA would get a market share of around 34%, based on industry data, more than double that of Renault and Ford, with shares around 16% each. Volkswagen and Daimler follow with market shares of 12% and 10% respectively. "Commercial vans are important for individuals, SMEs and large companies when it comes to delivering goods or providing services to customers," European Union competition chief Margrethe Vestager said in a statement, announcing an in-depth investigation into the proposed merger. "They are a growing market and increasingly important in a digital economy where private consumers rely more than ever on delivery services." Dario Duse, a managing director at consultancy firm AlixPartners, said demand for vans was not based on people's disposable income, as for cars, but rather on GDP and industrial trends, and in particular the logistics industry, where big players such as Amazon or DHL operate. "Logistics is a business segment which is having a significant growth, for several reasons including e-commerce, where you need efficient and agile vans for interurban and city deliveries," he said. "LCVs (light commercial vehicles) may recover faster than passengers cars in the post-COVID-19 phase." Sales of vans up to 3.5 tonnes in Europe amounted to 2.2 millions vehicles last year, compared to 15.8 million for passenger cars, according to data provided by the European Auto Industry Association (ACEA). The light commercial vehicles (LCVs) market may be secondary in terms of volumes, but it remains highly profitable in an industry where margins are constantly under pressure. Margins are generally higher than on passenger cars, up to 5-10 additional percentage points, AlixPartners says. "With LCVs you don't have to fulfill a series of consumer expectations that drive additional complexity and costs, such as for interiors. LCV customers are more rational and business driven," Duse said. And while electrification in heavy trucks is complicated, it might come sooner for LCVs.
