1963 Chrysler Imperial Crown 2 Dr Hardtop - 74,000 Miles - Beautiful on 2040-cars

Year:1963 Mileage:74000 Color: and interior

I have decided to pass along custody of my beautiful 1963 Crown Imperial 2 Dr. Coupe. It's been very well maintained and cared for during it's 51 years. I've owned the car about 8 years. as I understand it this car spent most of it's life in Wyoming.

The good.

It runs and drives beautifully. The engine runs excellent with no problems. It does not leak or burn oil beyond what is considered normal. the transmission works excellent... it shifts like it should. It does not leak beyond a few drips. Excellent suspension. The car steers straight and tight with no drift. Brakes work excellent. Power steering works excellent. It appears to have had one complete paint job at some point in it's life before I took custody of it and the body shows no signs of having rust or rust repair or having been in an accident. The doors, hood and trunk close solid, easy and tight. All chrome, exterior and interior, is original and excellent. All 6 power windows work well. All instrument lighting works (see photo). The headlights, parking lights, license plate light, backup lights and turn signals all work properly. The clock works. The radio works well and so does the foot controlled Town & Country tuning. The power seat works well. The power antenna works well. The rear air defroster works well.  The seat upholstery and door panels are all original original and in excellent condition for their age.  The carpeting is worn on the front drivers side and is slightly faded in areas. The trunk carpeting is new. The jack, spare tire and spare tire cover are complete.  The 4 whitewall tire are in excellent condition and only have about 3,000 miles on them.

The bad.

The right top corner of the front seat back on the passenger side has been repaired. It's done very well but is slightly noticeable. The top corner left front seat back on the drivers side has a couple of small cracks starting. It should be fine as long as the sun is kept off of it. The top of the back seat under the rear window has had a few cracks repaired. The repair was not done as well as the seat corner but this area is not that visible. The wind lace that is on the rear edge of the door openings is frayed for about 4" on both sides. The wind lace on the front of the door openings has been replaced with new.  The carpeting, which is original,  is worn on the front drivers side and is faded in places.  Both of the things that are near the door hinges that hold the doors open are missing. There is a small shallow dent about 3" by 1/2" in the front bumper just right of center.  Overall the paint is very nice but is not show car perfect. There are a few typical chips that were touched up and are only noticeable from up close.  At some point the ignition switch must have been changed because the key for the doors is different from the key for the ignition. There are two small  "star" type chips that measure approximately 1/2" to 3/4" across in the windshield. They are stable and have not gotten any owrse the entire time I've owned the car. They are good candidates for the appropriate repair.

All in all this is a beautiful mostly original survivor of an Imperial. In my opinion Imperials like this are way under valued and now is an excellent time to buy a nice one like this.  I hate to part with this car but my situation demands it.  Inspection and test drive are welcome. I'm in N.E. Illinois.  The car is being sold as is with no implied or expressed warranty.  Shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer but I will be happy to assist however I can.  A deposit of $500 will be due within 48 hours of the end of auction and the balance due at time of pickup with a cashier or bank check or cash.

Chrysler launches new Ram ads and gears up for Super Bowl XLV [w/videos]

Tue, 09 Oct 2012

Perhaps no car company has made bigger splashes in the last two years at the Super Bowl than Chrysler, and the automaker's marketing chief, Olivier Francois, said today that he plans to be all over the big game again in February.
Last year, the company made an ad featuring Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood. The spot achieved viral status quickly when pundits charged that Eastwood's lines were politically motivated; meant to appeal to progressive voters/viewers favoring a second term for President Obama. In 2011, agency Wieden & Kennedy burst into the game with a now famous commercial featuring Eminem. Both ads have supported Chrysler's "Imported from Detroit" marketing platform.
Francois briefed reporters Monday at the Detroit Opera House while he also debuted a new series of ads for the Ram brand.

Is it time for American carmakers to give up on dual-clutch transmissions? [w/poll]

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

Last week, in the midst of Detroit's first days seeking relief in Chapter 9 of the bankruptcy code, Automotive News contributor Larry P. Vellequette penned an editorial suggesting that American car companies raise the white flag on dual clutch transmissions and give up on trying to persuade Americans to buy cars fitted with them. Why? Because, Vellequette says, like CVT transmissions, they "just don't sound right or feel right to American drivers." (Note: In the article, it's not clear if Vellequette is arguing against wet-clutch and dry-clutch DCTs or just dry-clutch DCTs, which is what Ford and Chrysler use.) The article goes on to state that Ford and Chrysler have experimented with DCTs and that both consumers and the automotive press haven't exactly given them glowing reviews, despite their quicker shifts and increased fuel efficiency potential compared to torque-converter automatic transmissions.
Autoblog staffers who weighed in on the relevance of DCTs in American cars generally disagreed with the blanket nature of Vellequette's statement that they don't sound or feel right, but admit that their lack of refinement compared to traditional automatics can be an issue for consumers. That's particularly true in workaday cars like the Ford Focus and Dodge Dart, both of which have come in for criticism in reviews and owner surveys. From where we sit, the higher-performance orientation of such transmissions doesn't always meld as well with the marching orders of everyday commuters (particularly if drivers haven't been educated as to the transmission's benefits and tradeoffs), and in models not fitted with paddle shifters, it's particularly hard for drivers to use a DCT to its best advantage.
Finally, we also note that DCT tuning is very much an evolving science. For instance, Autoblog editors who objected to dual-clutch tuning in the Dart have more recently found the technology agreeable in the Fiat 500L. Practice makes perfect - or at least more acceptable.

Chrysler set to make $266M-investment into 8-speed transmission production

Wed, Dec 10 2014

Chrysler will shortly make a significant $266-million investment into its Kokomo, IN transmission factory in a bid to expand production of its eight-speed automatic transmissions. The gearboxes, which are built under license from Germany's ZF Friedrichshafen, have been well received by customers and critics, and according to an SEC filing obtained by Automotive News, the transmissions will eventually find their way to all of Chrysler's rear-drive offerings (Viper and heavy-duty Ram models, aside). According to AN, a Chrysler spokesman says the investment has not been confirmed, but once it is, it'll mark the company's latest in a growing line of investments at the facility. Chrysler has poured $1.5 billion into Kokomo since 2009.
