Great 1957 Chrysler Imperial Southampton Coupe! This is a special vehicle that was presumably owned by the President of Mexico in 1958. We have the original import paperwork from Detroit to Mexico and a photo of the original Mexican registration that places the vehicle's address at "Los Pinos" (the Mexican equivalent to The White House). Vehicle's odometer is set to kilometers - so it should only have about 58k miles.
The vehicle has now been imported back to the US and has a Texas registration (tried selling it a few years back with a Mexican registration with no luck here on Ebay). Vehicle has been painted Cream White. Original color was Gun Metal Grey. Original 392 Hemi. Small amounts of rust - but body is in overall good shape. Bumpers were rechromed a while back but started to peel again. Some issues with electrical wiring, door handles, and brakes. Doors need some adjusting as well. Interior has been redone recently. Nothing too difficult to fix on this vehicle! Perfect for a professional restoration. It runs and runs well! Chrysler recalling over 280k minivans because airbags may deploy on wrong side
Mon, 08 Jul 2013Chrysler has issued a recall for some 2013 Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan and Ram C/V Tradesman vans built between May 10, 2012 and June 7, 2013. These vehicles may have a software error that would cause the wrong side (opposite side) airbags to deploy in a crash. With this defect, a left-side impact would cause the right-side airbag to deploy, etc.
The recall affects 281,500 vehicles in total: 224k in the US, 49,300 in Canada, 2,900 in Mexico and 5,300 in other locations. Chrysler will notify owners of effected vehicles, and reflash the offending occupant restraint control module to resolve the issue. Chrysler recalls 350k vehicles over ignition switches
Thu, 25 Sep 2014Chrysler has announced a recall covering 349,442 vehicles due to ignition switches that can either become stuck or move without warning. All of the affected vehicles are from the 2008 model year, and were built before May 12, 2008.
The automaker has learned that ignition keys on some vehicles "may not fully return to the 'ON' position after rotation to the 'START' position during engine-startup," the company said in a statement. Additionally, "an ignition key may not fully return to the 'ON' position after rotation to the 'START' position and may inadvertently move through the 'ON' position to 'ACCESSORY' or 'OFF.'"
Chrysler says it is unaware of any related injuries, and notes that while reduced braking, engine or steering power is possible in such instances, the airbags are not affected. The later stands in contrast to General Motors' recent rash of high-profile recalls, and it's an important distinction that Chrysler (understandably) felt necessary to call out in bold print in its press release.
Chrysler patents smarter minivan folding seats
Thu, 02 Jan 2014It's frightening to think of how quickly the mice would have overtaken us if we hadn't stayed one step ahead of them with better mousetraps. We'll never have to worry about that in our relentlessly re-engineered world, though. Case in point: Chrysler has been granted a patent by the US Patent and Trademark Office for an improved design of the already wondrous Stow 'n' Go seating found in the automaker's Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans.
Introduced in 2005, the Stow 'n' Go was improved in 2008, and based on the drawings of this third-generation improvement, the new design appears to allow stowage of the second row of seats without having to move the front-row seats forward as much. It look like it also involves fewer operations and moving parts, with a portion of the seatback being incorporated into the flat floor when the seats are stowed, as opposed to having a completely separate cover.
It's possible that the innovation may appear on the next-generation minivans expected in 2015, but Chrysler isn't commenting on the patent.
