Junkyard Gem: 1979 Chrysler Cordoba
Thu, Oct 20 2016The original Cordoba personal luxury coupe, which debuted for the 1975 model year, was a big hit for Chrysler. Through the 1979 model year, it was based on the successful Chrysler B-Body platform, making it a sibling to the Dukes of Hazzard Charger and Governor Moonbeam's Plymouth Satellite sedan. I see a surprising number of Cordobas showing up in the self-service wrecking yards I frequent in California and Colorado, and this two-tone '79 showed up in a San Francisco Bay Area yard a while back. You could get the 1979 Cordoba with typical 1970s fuzzy-velour seats, but this one has the iconic Corinthian Leather of Ricardo Montalban fame. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Yes, soft Corinthian Leather! This one has just about every possible option, if we are to go by the information in the brochure. The vinyl landau roof and two-tone paint were for serious buyers only. This V8 is either a 318 or a 360, and we won't discuss the depressing power figures that you get with engines of the late 1970s. Worth restoring? Not in this kind of condition. Source of parts for other, more valuable B-bodies? Yes. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Junkyard Gem: 1993 UMC Aeromate Food Truck
Mon, Sep 5 2022One of my favorite things about living in the Mile High City is all the food trucks roaming the neighborhoods here. I'm a regular at such fine mobile eating establishments as Tacos el Huequito, Mikes2Kitchen, and Yuan Wonton, and I'm pleased that South Denver's metal-centric Brutal Poodle bar now has its own food truck. The sad part about food trucks, however, is that they'reĀ trucks, and sometimes old trucks wear out and have to be sent to the knacker's yard. Here's a once-ebullient Denver food truck that met that fate and now resides in a self-service yard just south of the city. This truck started out as a member of the extended UMC Aeromate family, built in Indiana by the company now known as Utilimaster. I couldn't find much useful information about this particular model, which seems to have the windshield and nose of one of the many UMC-based RVs instead of the typical long snout of most Aeromates. What IĀ do know is that it's based on an early-1990s Chrysler minivan chassis, complete with 3.3-liter V6 engine and the instrument cluster out of a 1992 Plymouth Voyager. The 3.3 made 150 horsepower in 1993, and it was installed in Chrysler minivans through 2010. 150 horses (and 180 pound-feet) isn't much for a big truck packed with a complete kitchen, and the strain on a Torqueflite automatic transmission designed for a 3,400-pound minivan must have been severe. I think the drivetrain on this 29-year-old truck just couldn't hold up under the demands of a hard-working crew of sandwich entrepreneurs in the extreme weather and traffic conditions of High Plains Colorado. The county licensing sticker expired in late 2019, so it took a couple of years for this UMC to reach this place. Don't weep for the Little Big Sandwich Truck, though, because the LBST Empire upgraded to a newer, GM-built school bus a few years ago and appears to be slinging sandwiches outside Denver-area breweries to this day. The headlights and marker lights clearly came from a late-first-generation Dodge Caravan/Plymouth Voyager (the second-generation Chrysler minivans, which debuted in the 1991 model year, got different noses). The grille looks like typical RV equipment. I've seen a few junked ice cream trucks over the years, but somehow a sandwich truck with a stenciled snorkeling dachshund seems sadder. 2023 Chrysler Pacifica gets a 'Road Tripper' package for spring
Wed, Nov 16 2022Chrysler, the car maker that helped to ignite the minivan craze more than four decades ago, will offer a 2023 Pacifica Road Tripper version to dress up a trio of their minivans next spring. Borrowing an adjective from a certain German brand, Chrysler has billed the Road Tripper as "the ultimate family travel vehicle. The Road Trip package, which can be added to the Touring L and Pacifica Touring L Hybrid models, is mostly comprised of cosmetic features. It will cost from $1,495 to $2,395, depending on the model. Road Trippers will show off Luster Gray Road Tripper graphics, outlined in Brilliant Orange, on the front driver and passenger doors. The 20-inch wheels (18-inch wheels on the Hybrid) are also Luster Gray, as are the center caps, which carry a Brilliant Orange Chrysler wing badge logo. The package also includes semi-gloss Granite Crystal accents front and rear, as well as on door moldings, door handles and mirror caps. There's also a roof rack and all-weather floor mats. The optional Road Tripper package is to be available on gas-powered Pacifica Touring L and Pacifica Touring L Hybrid models, in a choice of three exterior colors: Bright White, Brilliant Black and Ceramic Gray. Ordering for the vans is scheduled to open in the first quarter of next year, with deliveries to dealers in the spring. The company says it had turned to social media to select a name for the package, with the final selection garnering the most votes in a poll on some social channels, including Instagram and Twitter. The idea, said Chris Feuell, Chrysler brand CEO, was to demonstrate Āthe Chrysler brandĀs commitment to customer collaboration moving forward.Ā Related video: This content is hosted by a third party.
