1966 Chrysler 300 Pilarless 4 Door Nice Original Big Block Car Rust Free on 2040-cars
Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States
A fun reliable strong running car with only a few of the usual suspects with these old cars. New brakes 2000 milers ago which included new master cylinder, front and rear wheel cylinders, shoes all the way around. New plugs and points and tune up 200 miles ago. The thing runs great. Starts up first thing in the cold morning - automatic choke works great. When I bought the car it had an aftermarket air cleaner on it. The previous owner had the seats reupholstered in a very tasteful almost period looking fabric and vinyl. ZERO rust anywhere on the car. I believe it spent most of its life in Oklahoma and California before coming to New Mexico. One repaint that now has some areas of clearcoat peeling mostly on the hood and top of drivers rear fender. Tires have plenty of life left. No crash damage or dents. Some mile peppering to chrome taillights. Trunk area very nice with no stains to carpet. Non smoker car apparently most of its life. All glass is in great shape. Nothing is leaking and oil always looks clean. Dash has two splits - one on binnacle and other by speaker grill. Steering wheel has a few splits. The steering is telescopic and works great.
OK - the things that need work but no rush - drivers side rear window does not operate - bad switch or motor?. The front windows roll down quickly and nicely. The passenger rear is slow and occasionally needs assistance. The air conditioner does not blow cold. The headliner seam over the rear seat has a blown seam - a few safety pins keep it up. Some door seals are worn. Odometer stopped working the day I bought it making tons of noise then "pop" and all silent which is common for these cars with old grease and plastic gears - this is my third big chrysler and they all have failed on me eventually. Title says actual miles and if you get the plastic replacement gear you can continue logging miles on your new title. I'm sure there are some minor things I'm forgetting and will update as I remember but this car has been great. It doesnt smoke and pulls strong. I trust the car to cross the country so if you want to fly in and drive home it is completely reliable plus Santa Fe aint a bad place to visit! However, being an old car, I recommend a AAA membership and will not guarantee that something won't blow up down the road. Sold as-is where is and I will work with your shipper to get it loaded and document the process with photographs. I had previously posted the car and had a lot of overseas interest. Please, I'm happy to arrange and help with shipping to your port of choice here in the USA but I will not make arrangements to get the car overseas - that is your job. There were some misunderstandings in the prior auction that I would do this. I'm selling the car quite cheap and it's not worth the effort for me to micro-manage the shipment to europe. I have successfully shipped to ports of choice in the past and can hold the car for 2-3 weeks after the sale while you make arrangements. This is a great car and gets compliments and looks wherever I go in it. And, she is RUST FREE. |

Detroit 3 and UAW set for showdown over tiered wages
Mon, Mar 23 2015This week, thousands of United Auto Workers will converge on Cobo Center in Detroit for the Special Convention on Collective Bargaining, an every-four-year event that lets members tell UAW leaders what the negotiating priorities should be during contract negotiations. This is where a lot of sand and a lot of lines start coming together in preparation for contract negotiations between the UAW and the Detroit 3 automakers, which will happen later this year. Number one on the UAW agenda is the end of the two-tier wage system created in 2007 to help the automakers get through bankruptcy; veteran workers are paid the Tier 1 rate of around $29.00 per hour, new hires are paid the Tier 2 rate of between $15 and $20 and get about half the benefits of Tier 1. Tier 2 hiring has been an undoubted success for the automakers, allowing them to keep factories in the US and hire more workers. By agreement, it is capped at a certain percentage of each automaker's workforce, and while the union's ultimate position is to get rid of the dual-scale system entirely; one leader said Ford could easily afford the $335 million it would take to convert all its workers to Tier 1 out of its $6.9 billion in 2014 North American profit, and General Motors could do the same out of the $5 billion it is handing to investors through the (admittedly forced) share buyback. Other delegates say that at the very least they'd be happy with enforcement of the current caps in the new contract. The automakers, conversely, would welcome expansion of the Tier 2 ranks. Including benefits, import automakers pay workers "in the high $40 range" per hour, according to an analyst, while Ford and GM pay about $59 in wages and benefits per hour. More Tier 2 workers on the rolls would let those two companies get labor cost parity with the competition. Fiat-Chrysler pays wages closer to the imports because of special exceptions in its UAW contract that allow unlimited Tier 2 hiring; those exceptions will end on September 14 and bring FCA into line with the other domestics, unless the new contract maintains them. FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne is opposed to the two-tier system, having called it "almost offensive." One analyst says the UAW might win a sizable pay raise for Tier 2 and a small increase for Tier 1, but the keystone issue will be how the hiring matrix can help the automakers keep overall wages in line with the imports.
FCA cuts powertrain warranties to 60k miles
Fri, May 29 2015FCA US is cutting back the mileage of its powertrain warranty on some 2016 model year vehicles. Rather than the current five years/100,000 miles of coverage, the new amount is five years/60,000 miles for gasoline-fueled models from Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram. In March 2015, General Motors made a similar switch to five-years/60,000-miles of coverage for Chevrolet and GMC, and FCA US seems to be citing this as part of the reason for the shift. "Following changes already made by competitors, FCA US is adjusting powertrain warranty coverage for 2016 model year vehicles to be more consistent with industry practices," the automaker said in a portion of its statement. The bumper-to-bumper warranty for these vehicles is unchanged at three years/36,000 miles. According to Automotive News, Fiat's warranty is remaining at four years/50,000 miles. When it changed the mileage limit, GM also halved the number of free service visits for Chevy, GMC, and Buick to two from the previous four. The automaker claimed that the reason for the adjustments to its coverage was that a long warranty was seldom a reason for customers to buy a vehicle. For 2016MY, Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge and Ram Truck vehicles with gasoline engines will be covered by a 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty. 2013.5 Chrysler 200 S Special Edition is a Sebring swan song
Wed, 27 Mar 2013
The world is set to get an all-new Chrysler 200 next year, thereby finally putting the bones of the long-serving Sebring to rest. To tide us all over until then, the automaker has released the 2013.5 200 S Special Edition. As a collaboration between Chrysler and the Imported from Detroit clothing line, the sedan features plenty of aesthetic tweaks to give it a bit more attitude. Those include tinted headlamp and taillamp housings, body-color door sills and 18-inch gloss black wheels. There's also a revised front fascia with a black mesh grille, while the tail end gets a decklid spoiler and a revised valance.
Indoors, the seats are clad in black, water-resistant fabric courtesy of Carhartt. Expect to see the 2013.5 200 S Special Edition in dealers soon with a price tag of $28,870. While there are plenty of questions to be asked here, one is more nagging than the others. Why bother buying the special edition when an all-new model is mere months away? It's an age-old question, but it still bears asking. Check out the full press release below for more information.
