BOUGHT THIS TAHOE FROM LOCAL SHERIFF'S OFFICE TO REPLACE MY WIFE'S JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE.  WE HAVE TWO DAUGHTERS UNDER THE AGE OF 3 GROWING LIKE WEEDS.  I WAS GOING TO FIX THIS UP AS A DAILY DRIVER FOR HER TO GIVE HER AND THE GIRLS MORE ROOM.  MY WIFE LIKES THE TAHOE BUT HAS DECIDED SHE WOULD LIKE A SUBURBAN INSTEAD, SO THE TAHOE MUST GO!

LET'S START WITH THE THINGS I KNOW THIS CAR NEEDS:

RIGHT FRONT FENDER HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK SLIGHTLY AND MAKES CONTACT WITH THE FRONT DOOR WHEN OPENING.  HAD A LOCAL BODY SHOP LOOK AT IT AND THEY SAID THE EASIEST THING TO DO IS REPLACE THE FENDER WITH A USED FACTORY REPLACEMENT.  GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE VEHICLE STILL HAS DECALS FROM SHERIFF'S OFFICE USE, SO THIS FENDER WONT NEED TO HAVE THE DECALS REMOVED!

CHECK ENGINE LAMP IS ON WITH A CODE FOR THE RIGHT BANK KNOCK SENSOR.  I WOULD RECOMMEND REPLACING BOTH SENSORS SINCE THE OTHER SIDE WILL SURELY FAIL AS SOON AS THE TRUCKS BACK TOGETHER.  SENSORS ARE LOCATED UNDER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD SO WILL TAKE ABOUT A DAYS WORTH OF WORK AND APPROX $160 IN PARTS.

HAS THE NOTORIOUS KNOCK FROM THE STEERING COLUMN, INDICATING AN UPDATED INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT IS DUE.  SHAFT TAKES ABOUT AN HOUR TO REPLACE AND ARE READILY AVAILABLE ON EBAY FOR AROUND $60.00

REAR A/C CONTROL DOOR ACTUATOR IS NOT WORKING SO REAR A/C ONLY BLOWS WARM AIR.  COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE TRUCKS AND REPLACEMENT REQUIRES REMOVAL OF RIGHT REAR INTERIOR PLASTIC.  ABOUT A 1 HOUR JOB.

FINALLY, THE DASH WARNING CENTER SHOWS THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM NEEDS SERVICE.  THIS IS BECAUSE THESE WHEELS DO NOT HAVE THE CORRECT VALVE STEMS TO WORK WITH THIS SYSTEM.  ACCORDING TO THE TIRE SHOP IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENTS TO NOT USE THE TIRE WARNING SYSTEM AS IT CAN FALSELY IDENTIFY NON EXISTING CONCERNS FOR THE OFFICER DRIVING.  SYSTEM CAN BE RECONNECTED BY SIMPLY HAVING THE CORRECT VALVE STEMS INSTALLED.

NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF:

VEHICLE EQUIPPED WITH A TRAIL READY BRAND FRONT BUMPER.  THIS THING WILL ALLOW YOU TO MOW OVER SMALL TREES AND OTHER OBSTACLES WITHOUT SLOWING DOWN!  BUMPER HAS MOUNT FOR WINCH AS WELL AS 6" OFF ROAD DRIVING LIGHTS.

HAD VEHICLE CHECKED OUT BY LOCAL SHOP AND THEY FOUND ALL FLUIDS APPEAR IN GOOD CONDITION AND FILTERS LOOK NEW.  THIS IS WHY MY OTHER CAR IS AN EX COP CAR, THEY MAINTAIN THEIR VEHICLES!!

I REPLACED THE HEATER BLOWER RESISTOR UNDER THE DASH AS THE FAN WAS ONLY BLOWING ON SETTINGS 1-4.  THIS IS ALSO A NOTORIOUS FAILURE ON THESE VEHICLES. FAN WORKS EXCELLENT NOW.

VEHICLE HAS VINYL FLOORING SO SPILLS AREN'T A CONCERN.  FRONT SEATS ARE CLOTH AND THE REAR SEAT IS VINYL.  VEHICLE WAS ORDERED THIS WAY AS IT WAS USED AS A SHERIFF'S VEHICLE.

VEHICLE HAS THE MORE RARE REAR BARN DOORS, INSTEAD OF THE LIFT GATE THAT MOST TAHOE'S SEEM TO HAVE.

VEHICLE IS SET UP FOR 2ND BATTERY OPTION.  HAS TRAY AND BATTERY CABLES IF NEW OWNER WANTS TO INSTALL.

PLEASE ASK ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS PRIOR TO END OF AUCTION!

Why 2015 is going to be a huge year for trucks

Thu, Jan 22 2015

Nissan chief executive Carlos Ghosn took center stage to introduce the 2016 Titan last week at the Detroit Auto Show. He spoke of the truck's new features, impressive Cummins V8 diesel engine and the extensive amount of time and money required to build a modern, competitive pickup truck. "We have done all of this because we see opportunity – an opportunity in the unmet needs of today's American truck customers," Ghosn said. He was speaking about the Titan, but his thoughts echo the industry's mindset: When it comes to trucks, find an opportunity and attack. Even with CAFE regulations looming and fickle consumer preferences, investing in trucks is a no-brainer for automakers. Some consumers will always need a truck for their job or lifestyle. And some people will always want one, whether they need it or not. With that in mind, here are four reasons why the pickup-truck sector is more important than ever and poised for growth in 2015. View 24 Photos The Nissan Titan Is Back Okay, it never left, but the Titan hadn't been redesigned since its launch in 2003, and Nissan sold more NV200s than Titans in 2014. It's an understatement to say the truck was languishing. That all changes with the 2016 model. The Titan will come in two variants, a traditional fullsize competitor and the Titan XD. The XD will lead the market launch, and it arrives late this year. It's pitched as a "whitespace" offering, Nissan sales and marketing vice president Fred Diaz said. The idea is to offer something in the general size and price range of a fullsize truck, but also have some of the capability of a heavy-duty truck. The XD uses a fully boxed ladder frame, the chassis design from Nissan's commercial division, and the wheelbase is about 20 inches longer than other Titan models. The XD, which Nissan is calling the flagship of the line, will be the only model with the 5.0-liter Cummins turbodiesel V8. It produces 310 horsepower and 555 pound-feet of torque, while being able to tow 12,000 pounds. V6 and V8 gasoline models will also be offered on the Titan XD and the standard, non-XD model. When production ramps up, the Titan will be sold with several cabs, beds and trims. New features include trailer sway control, an integrated trailer brake controller, more storage options in the cabin and even laminated front and rear side glass to reduce outside noise. All of this has given Nissan fresh confidence in an area where it admittedly has been lacking. "We can compete," Diaz told Autoblog.

Cruze Diesel Road Trip reveals the good and bad, but no ugly

Tue, Mar 31 2015

Most of us have strong opinions on diesel-powered cars based on our perceptions of and experience with them. I used to thoroughly dislike oil burners for their noise, smoke and lackluster performance, and the fact that they ran on greasy, smelly stuff that was more expensive than gasoline, could be hard to find and was nasty to get on your hands when refueling. Those negatives, for me, trumped diesel's major positives of big torque for strong acceleration and better fuel economy. Are any of those knocks on diesel still valid today? I'm not talking semis, which continue to annoy me when their operators for some reason almost never shut them down. At any busy truck stop, the air seems always filled with the sound – and sometimes smell – of dozens of big-rig diesels idling endlessly and mindlessly. Or diesel heavy-duty pickups. Those muscular workhorses are far more refined than they once were and burn much less fuel than their gasoline counterparts. But good luck arriving home late at night, or departing early morning, without waking your housemates and neighbors with their clattery racket. No, I'm talking diesel-powered passenger cars, which account for more than half the market in Europe (diesel fuel is cheaper there) yet still barely bump the sales charts in North America. Diesel fuel remains more expensive here, too few stations carry it, and too many Americans remember when diesel cars were noisy, smelly slugs. Also, US emissions requirements make them substantially more expensive to certify, and therefore to buy. But put aside (if you can) higher vehicle purchase and fuel prices, and today's diesel cars can be delightful to drive while delivering much better fuel efficiency than gas-powered versions. So far in the US, all except Chevrolet's compact Cruze Diesel come from German brands, and all are amazingly quiet, visually clean (no smoke) and can be torquey-fun to drive. When a GM Powertrain engineering team set out to modify a tried-and-true GM of Europe turbodiesel four for North American Chevy Cruze compacts, says assistant chief engineer Mike Siegrist, it had a clear target in mind: the Volkswagen Jetta TDI 2.0-liter diesel. And they'll tell you that they beat it in nearly every way. "I believe we have a superior product," he says. "It's powerful, efficient and clean, and it will change perceptions of what a diesel car can be." The 2.0L Cruze turbodiesel pumps out 151 SAE certified horses and 264 pound-feet of torque (at just 2,000 rpm) vs.

Chevy Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo concept blends the past and the future

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo is the rare concept car that salutes a seminal moment in history, yet also borders on science fiction.
Revealed Wednesday at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the concept uses the name of one of Chevy's historic racing partnerships, with Chaparral Racing, which dates to the 1960s. Chaparrals raced successfully at a range of levels, including IndyCar, Trans-Am and SCCA competition.
But the history ends there, as the concept's main purpose is as a racecar in a downloadable update for the PlayStation 3 game Gran Turismo 6.
