You are looking at a 2005 Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) with 15,234 original miles. This is a southern vehicle which has never seen police service. It is highly optioned, fully equipped, and (literally) does not have a scratch on it. It is a beautiful vehicle and still smells new inside. Most of the paper parts labels underhood and underneath are still intact.

I am the second owner. Prior to buying the vehicle, I did extensive research on its history, and here is what I was able to determine (most of which is confirmed by CARFAX):

This Tahoe began its life as what GM refers to as a ‘kept’ vehicle. ‘Kept’ by GM corporate and fully police equipped, it was used to ‘showcase’ the Tahoe PPV brand at police expos throughout the southern half of the country. (see the gallery photo) While owned by GM, the Tahoe spent most of its time in Texas and Florida; it was a ‘static’ demonstrator, meaning it was taken to shows so police could view the specs in person. (It was not used for any driving exercises or as a ‘loaner/test vehicle’, as those vehicles are put in a different class.) In 2007, with 11,319 miles, the vehicle was sold by GM, listed as a ‘manufacturer’s vehicle’ at a dealer auction. It was purchased by a GM dealer, placed in inventory, and three months later sold to a businessman/collector from Florida. He put only a few thousand miles on it. I bought the vehicle from him in 2009 with 15,120 miles on the clock. I had intended to use it as a daily driver in my impending retirement, but when it showed up and I saw how nice it really was, into the garage it went while I thought about it and continued driving what I had (2004 CVPI). As it turns out, the Tahoe was destined to sit in storage mostly unregistered, a garage queen. After retirement along came a divorce; the house was sold; and I am finally tired of paying storage, for something I don’t really need/use, so … time for somebody else to enjoy it.

I bought this 2005, instead of one of the newer 2007 and later models, because I view the 2005-6 years as the last of the ‘real ‘police trucks. While the 2007 and newer ones are nice, to me they just scream ‘plastic!’; I don’t care for the redesigned dash, the seats wear early, and the ‘bumpers’ are just plastic fascia which collect stone chips and bug marks. The 2005 has a quality interior that wears like iron, steel bumpers, and a virtually ‘paint surface free’ front end that will look good far into the future.. The block and rest of the mechanicals are bulletproof, having been around and tweaked for a long time.

As a result of my career in law enforcement, I am very familiar with the Tahoe and there is simply no comparison: they ride like they are on rails at 120MPH plus, and they can patrol at 90 all day long. Most remain dependable enough to do that in police service even at 120-130K miles, and an additional 70K miles in civilian service after being auctioned is not uncommon.

This particular Tahoe is finished in Vibrant White clearcoat. The finish is a solid 10 out of 10. You will not find a single scratch, dent, ding, or chip anywhere on it – period. All of the glass is in excellent condition as well. This Tahoe was optioned with factory deep tint glass on all windows except the windshield and driver/passenger side windows (the windshield is factory shaded/tinted). The interior is silver/grey:  cloth front buckets with HD vinyl rear 60/40 split bench. The material on these seats is really unparalleled: the front is a heavy duty velour type that is plush but doesn’t catch lint (like the Crown Vic executive velour option), while the rear vinyl is easily mistaken for leather. All seating surfaces are like new. The headliner and dash are like new. The cargo compartment is like new. I put a Husky custom cargo mat back there, and that will come with the vehicle. The rest of the vehicle has the factory HD rubber floor covering which shows zero signs of wear. There is a center console with mounted police equipment (see below); it, too, is like new. No holes in the dash face. Dash top is pristine.

To save myself some time, here are the standard features of this vehicle reproduced directly from the GM brochure: (I have a copy of the brochure and will leave it in the vehicle for the winning bidder).

6N5 – Rear windows inoperative (drive control only)

AMF – Keyless entry/alarm, one remote

7X7 – Spotlights, left and right hand (Note about the right hand spotlight: when the vehicle was shipped to me, the carrier muddied it up quite a bit – enough that I ran it through a carwash, which is not my usual thing. Afterwards, I noticed a little water on the passenger side floor which may have been coming from the right spotlight – it looked like  the exterior molding was not sealing well. Also, a right side spot is technically not legal in NJ. So, I removed the right spot, and bought a new factory exterior molding to replace the modified one {see pic}. I left the interior molding/fitting in place. I will include the right spot assembly in the event the new owner wants to reinstall, a five-minute procedure. It simply plugs into the existing pigtail connector I have tucked behind the molding.

The Tahoe came with a standard AM/FM/cassette stereo radio. The Florida owner sourced an original equipment AM/FM/CD/Cassette stereo (police option code UB1) and had it properly unlocked and installed by a GM dealer; I have and will include that paperwork. Also, most Tahoe PPV's have the center console deleted. This one has a factory 'short' center console installed.

In ADDITION to the above, this Tahoe has the following factory/professionally installed police equipment (NOTE TO EBAY: PER EBAY RULES, ALL OF THIS EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN RENDERED INOPERABLE):

1. “Go-Rhino” pushbar, as depicted in photos. Not a scratch on it.

2. Whelen 100 watt airhorn/PA combo

3. Whelen 100 watt speaker, mounted on pushbar

4. Strobe system, concealed: 90 watt, 6 head, located in front parking lights, rear turn signals, and backup lights

5. Dominator LED bar, 6 head, red/blue, rear interior mount, as depicted

6. Alternating headlights

7. Federal Switch box, console mounted, as depicted.

8. Streamlight Stinger charger mounted under dash (no flashlight, though)

9. Quartz-halogen driving/work lights, pushbar mounted

Please note that the cargo area storage drawers are not included in the auction.

Note: the airhorn/pa and strobe system are mounted in the console, in the normally unused area under the cup holders, for easy access; likewise, the switchbox is mounted to the front console plate and easily removed if desired.

There are a couple of other things to mention: there is a factory roof lightbar hole, which has been sealed (see photo); All of the factory equipment on this vehicle is original, including the belts, hoses, and tires. The tires appear to be in excellent shape; the matching factory pursuit spare has never been down; but I would not be doing 120MPH on tires 9 years old. One of the belt/pulley assemblies have developed a squeal. The airbag light comes on intermittently. Because the vehicle has been unregistered, I have not tended to these things. Otherwise, the vehicle runs and drives like you would expect a nearly new vehicle to. It has been exercised monthly over the years by bringing it up to temp and running it around the block a few times, and that it how it has accumulated the hundred or so miles over the course of 4 years. Oil/filter has been changed (MobilOne, K&N) every year. The batteries (both) were replaced a few years ago with GM original police equipment, and I hardwired a dual Battery Tender to keep them fresh. I’ll throw that in with the sale as well.

The original list price on this vehicle, without the aftermarket police equipment, was over $36,000. I am really adverse to selling it, and I am not giving it away. I will not reveal the reserve, other than to say it is well less than half of the list. The vehicle is for sale locally as well, so I reserve the right to end the auction early if I receive an acceptable offer. Please call me directly at 732-232-7929 if you have any questions or otherwise would like.

THE FINE PRINT: While this vehicle is probably as close to a new 2005 Tahoe PPV as you will find, I will restate the obvious: it is not new. It sells where-is/as is, as a used vehicle, with no warranties expressed or implied. I can’t anticipate everything, so ask all questions before bidding.

Winning bidders agree to forward a 25% partial payment, NONREFUNDABLE, at end of auction via direct bank wire transfer or by overnighted cashier’ check. Balance is due within 7 days of end of auction. Transportation is the responsibility of the buyer, I will assist in any way possible. The vehicle will not leave my possession until I am satisfied that full payment has been made.

Because of the usual proverbial bad apples: ANY BIDDER WITH A FEEDBACK OF FIVE OR LESS WILL HAVE THEIR BID IMMEDIATELY RETRACTED UNLESS THEY CONTACT ME PRIOR TO BIDDING.

GM announces net 220 job increase as Trump visits Michigan

Wed, Mar 15 2017

GM announced today that about 900 jobs would be added (or, importantly, retained) ahead of President Trump's arrival in Michigan, where he is expected to discuss his plan to roll back fuel economy standards. The timing of the announcement is almost certainly not coincidental, as appending it to a Trump visit gives it a higher profile and dovetails with the President's jobs agenda. It's less likely the decision itself was made for those reasons, but the free PR boost is a nice bonus. As for those 900 jobs themselves, they aren't all new jobs. The only net gain is approximately 220 jobs at the Romulus Powertrain Plant, which produces the 10-speed automatic transmission that's proliferating through the company's lineup. The 180 jobs at Flint Assembly and 500 jobs at Lansing Delta Township are retained jobs – that is to say, spots the company found for workers who would otherwise have been laid off. By the way, the Flint jobs will help with production of heavy-duty pickups, and the Lansing jobs are to produce the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. Finding jobs for manufacturing workers in the auto sector, whether new or retained, is admirable. No matter how GM couches it, the company has created or retained a total of 7,000 jobs this year, and its total reinvestment in US production is around $1 billion. But these decisions are business ones, not political ones – timing the announcements to make them seem inspired by economic policy, or the political situation, is simply smart PR. GM's European Opel division may eventually go all-electric

Wed, Feb 15 2017

General Motors' Opel division in Europe may transform itself into an all-electric vehicle maker by 2030. Granted, a lot can happen between now and then, including a potential buyout by French automaker PSA Group. Regardless, Opel appears to view its electric future beyond the Ampera-e, which is the sister vehicle to the Chevrolet Bolt, and more like Tesla. Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann indicated that focusing on electric drivetrains would be a superior strategy to expanding its EV technology while pushing forward with conventional drivetrains, says Automotive News Europe, citing comments Neumann made to German publication Manager Magazin. General Motors could make the decision to move towards an all-electric vehicle line for Opel as soon as May. Of course, that depends on whether Opel is bought out by PSA, the parent country to Peugeot and Citroen. PSA is in talks to buy General Motors' Opel and Vauxhall divisions, though government and labor representatives in Germany have expressed concerns over potential job losses from the proposed buyout, Reuters says. Regardless, GM has hinted at expanding its electric-vehicle line far beyond the Bolt, which has a 238-mile single-charge range and debuted late last year. Mary Barra, in an interview with CNET, said the Bolt's all-electric platform could be applied to a "huge range of vehicles," though wasn't specific about additional EV models. Opel first showed off its Ampera-e at the Paris Motor Show last fall. The name of the model raised some eyebrows because the Ampera badge had been previously used by Opel for the sister version of the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in. Either way, Opel is looking to take on Renault for electric-vehicle sales supremacy across the Pond. Related Video:

China's rise, global restructuring wither GM's Korea division

Wed, Jan 7 2015

An article in the Daily Kanban suggests the sun is setting on GM Korea, and it could already be well into dusk. GM Korea came about when General Motors, along with co-investors SAIC and Suzuki, bought Daewoo Motors from parent company Daewoo Group in 2001; it had a previous tie-up with GM, a joint venture that ended in 1992, although Daewoo cars were based on GM cars until 1996. Over the decade following the purchase, it became such an important part of operations that it was renamed GM Korea in 2011, "to reflect its heightened status in [the] global operations of GM." Just two years later, the printed rumors were that the subsidiary responsible for a fifth of Chevrolet's global production could be shutting down. The division's sales were down almost 21 percent through November of last year, counting domestic South Korean sales, exports, and CKD – Complete Knock Down – products. That makes the labor strife, already an issue for four years, even more acute, reports say the subsidiary will lose $36 million a year if it can't get the job and wage cuts it wants, and government concessions can't make up for the losses. And it gets worse, so head over to Daily Kanban to read the rest of the story.
