For sale is a white 1997 Tahoe LS 2 door. I believe I am only the second owner of this truck, of which I have owned since April of 2008. I purchased the truck with 95,000 miles and it now has 162,000 miles. The majority of those miles are all highway between a 50 mile round-trip work commute, upstate NY and the Jersey Shore. The truck has a gray cloth interior with a split bench seat. Since I have owned the truck I have had the following work done:

Rebuilt Transmission at 95k by A-1 Award Transmission in Huntington Station, NY

Entire new brake system including:
-new brake lines
-new calipers
-new wheel cylinders
-new rear brake shoes
New Intake Manifold Gaskets

Within the past 2 years the following has been done:
-new oil cooler line seals
-new spark plugs, rotor, distributor cap, ignition wires and fuel filter
-new battery

Within the past year the following has been done:
-new fuel pump (2 months old)
-new ignition switch
-new Cooper Discoverer 265/75-16 tires (approximately 5000 miles on them)
-new thermostat and fan belt
-new front brake pads

What it needs: Although the truck has A/C it does not hold a charge for longer than a few months. I have dyed the lines but have never really followed up to see where the leak is. So you are either going to have to service the A/C system or just charge it in the beginning of the summer. Also, the U-joints are going to need to be replaced at some point in the future. I just have not had time to get to it and they don't seem to be getting worse.

As you can see from the pictures the overall appearance of the truck is very clean considering it is almost 17 years old. The truck runs absolutely great and set aside from the normal Tahoe problems I have never had any real problems with it. The Vortec 5.7 burns about a quart of oil maybe every 3 months. The interior is also in great shape and everything is there, including the factory original spare tire. Everything works including power drivers seat.

The 4x4 is electronic push button shift and works perfectly. I use it in the snow without any problems and to tow a 26' boat 2 times per year.

If there are any specific pictures you want to see please let me know.  I also encourage you to come see the truck in person prior to bidding.

My reason for selling is I got a great deal on a new Ram 1500. The truck is located in Massapequa, New York, about 40 miles east of NYC. I will be around in the evening to show and test drive the truck.

I am not looking to store the truck for any time so please be prepared to purchase within 7 days of auction close.  I accept cash or cashiers check, no personal checks.

Please call or text 516.606.9641 with any questions. Thanks for looking...

5 reasons why GM is cutting jobs, closing plants in a healthy economy

Tue, Nov 27 2018

DETROIT — Even though unemployment is low, the economy is growing and U.S. auto sales are near historic highs, General Motors is cutting thousands of jobs in a major restructuring aimed at generating cash to spend on innovation. It's the new reality for automakers that are faced with the present cost of designing gas-powered cars and trucks that appeal to buyers now while at the same time preparing for a future world of electric and autonomous vehicles. GM announced Monday that it will cut as many as 14,000 workers in North America and put five plants up for possible closure as it abandons many of its car models and restructures to focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles. The reductions could amount to as much as 8 percent of GM's global workforce of 180,000 employees. The cuts mark GM's first major downsizing since shedding thousands of jobs in the Great Recession. The company also said it will stop operating two additional factories outside North America by the end of next year. The move to make GM get leaner before the next downturn likely will be followed by Ford Motor Co., which also has struggled to keep one foot in the present and another in an ambiguous future of new mobility. Ford has been slower to react, but says it will lay off an unspecified number of white-collar workers as it exits much of the car market in favor of trucks and SUVs, some of them powered by batteries. Here's a rundown of the reasons behind the cuts: Coding, not combustion CEO Mary Barra said as cars and trucks become more complex, GM will need more computer coders but fewer engineers who work on internal combustion engines. "The vehicle has become much more software-oriented" with millions of lines of code, she said. "We still need many technical resources in the company." Shedding sedans The restructuring also reflects changing North American auto markets as manufacturers continue to shift away from cars toward SUVs and trucks. In October, almost 65 percent of new vehicles sold in the U.S. were trucks or SUVs. That figure was about 50 percent cars just five years ago. GM is shedding cars largely because it doesn't make money on them, Citi analyst Itay Michaeli wrote in a note to investors. "We estimate sedans operate at a significant loss, hence the need for classic restructuring," he wrote. The reduction includes about 8,000 white-collar employees, or 15 percent of GM's North American white-collar workforce. Some will take buyouts while others will be laid off.

GM’s Charlie Wilson was right: Stronger regulations can help U.S. automakers

Fri, Oct 26 2018

Charlie Wilson had been the president and CEO of General Motors before being nominated to become secretary of defense by Dwight Eisenhower. During his Senate confirmation hearings, he controversially said, "For years I thought what was good for our country was good for General Motors, and vice versa." And he was right. While car companies aren't necessarily the most progressive when it comes to things that might have the slightest possibility of political blowback, General Motors should be credited for doing something absolutely forthright in this regard with its announcement that it wants the federal U.S. government not to squash the California Air Resources Board's emissions requirements but to actually create a 50-state "National Zero Emissions Vehicle" program that, in the words of Mark Reuss, executive vice president and president, Global Product Group and Cadillac, "will drive the scale and infrastructure investments needed to allow the U.S. to lead the way to a zero emission future." Filing comments to the Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Rule for Model Years 2021-2026 Passenger Cars and Light Trucks is one thing. But a graphic the company developed for this announcement — shown above — is something else entirely, something that is absolutely credible, creative and clever. There is a photo of a Chevrolet Bolt EV driving along a highway, which seems to be in Marin County (based on the blurred San Francisco skyline in the background). Text on the photo states: "It's Time for American Leadership in Zero Emissions Vehicles." It seems to say, in effect, "If we want to make America great again, then we're going to do it by leading in technology, not by retreating behind weakened regulations." General Motors understands that the auto market is globally competitive, and if U.S.-based companies are going to be in the game, then they'd better be able to out-innovate the companies based elsewhere, where emissions and economy standards are not being weakened. Chevrolet donates 300 vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Super Storm Sandy took out a lot of automobiles in its path of destruction through the Northeast last October. The number surpassed 250,000 at last count, and a few of those were owned by Chevrolet - cars either sitting on dealership lots or waiting at port to be shipped off. Rendered unsellable by the water damage inflicted by Sandy, these vehicles were facing the crusher. But Chevy didn't send them there.
Instead, Chevy had a better idea: It will be donating 300 of these vehicles damaged by Sandy to help train first responders at Guardian Centers in Perry, GA. Chevy is the official automotive partner of Guardian Centers, which is an 830-acre facility that trains first responders in disaster preparedness. Junked cars are practically a consumable commodity there, where a full-size cityscape simulator gives trainees an entire urban center in which to train for all sorts of rescue operations and disaster scenarios.
Chevy says its particular vehicles will be used "in conjunction with role players for wide area searches, traffic congestion in emergency situations, counter terrorism, public order and mass casualty exercises." While grim scenarios all, we're certainly glad there are people out there preparing for the unexpected. While a zombie apocalypse isn't officially on the list of potential disasters to prepare for, when the virus hits, we'll be hot-footing it to Perry, GA to hang with these guys and gals.
