No Reserve '98 Chevy K2500 Diesel Suburban.both Engine & Trans Replaced ! on 2040-cars
Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States
Rare Rust-Free Chassis/Frame 3/4 ton Diesel Suburban w/265,000 highway miles, BOTH engine & Trans replaced @ 235,000 miles (October 2010). Donor truck had 95,000 miles and good PM history). Proof of engine/Trans integrity is STRONG acceleration W/O smoking ! Leather seats good condition for model year with some minor cracking. Carpet reasonable with some minor stains/discoloration. Radio is inop but comes with replacement unit. MANY NEW PARTS and UPGRADES: remote PMD, Stanadyne Injector Pump, Bosch marine injectors, NEW glow plugs/relay, HO alternator, A/C compressor, A/C hoses, Interstate High CCA batteries (includes NEW 3rd battery in factory wrap) Nice GM later-model alloy wheels adds updated look, lowers 'unsprung' weight for better handling (includes several extra 8-lug rims, spare belts, parts, including NEW 1,000 watt engine block heater). Diamond Eye 4-inch turbo-back STRAIGHT exhaust improves fuel economy and throttle response (rumble can be quieted by simply adding a muffler if new owner prefers)
THE BAD: Typical GM roof streaks, peeling clear coat, nuisance leaks (cooling lines, P/S pump/brake booster, etc). Only very slight engine oil loss, maybe a pint every 3,000-5000 miles. BOTH front doors have the typical 'sag' and the plastic door handles are cracked slightly but still operate. Also, a minor collision in front, drivers side required hood/front grill, etc and the paint/body work isn't perfect. Hood has dimples, plastic grill mount is cracked, washer fluid reservoir lip is cracked but still holds fluid. Power lock button inop. Overall, the vehicle still looks good, real chrome bumpers and paint is shiny. Crankcase, Trans, Rear Diff, Transfer Case ALL FILLED with correct Mobil 1 lubricants. I typically change oil and filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles and also have all the chassis grease fittings lubed. This L65 'old school' diesel is MUCH simpler and easier to maintain than recent diesels with their complicated electronics and expensive parts. Parts for the 6.5 are readily available and NOT expensive. Recent parts came from DIESEL CARE in Memphis, TN (a good outfit) they overnighted me a BRAND-NEW Stanadyne cut-off solonoid (no questions asked, when their reman part failed) I like them a lot, ask for 'Amber' The 4L80E Trasmission shifts perfectly and achieves good MPG with the electronic overdrive (the E in 4L80E). Drag racers use this same 'bullet-proof' Trans for 1,000 HP race cars, with Corvette servo and heavier clutches, etc. The original Trans didn't fail, I just got a good deal when I had the engine replaced. Also, has a NEW flywheel and NEW harmonic balancer (good protector of crankshaft) The Heavy-Duty 14-bolt rear differential was serviced regularly, now has Mobil 1 75W-90. It doesn't leak. I honestly believe this truck can go another 200,000-250,000 miles without major overhaul. The UPGRADES should allow this, for example the better K & N type air intake, bigger exhaust, Remote PMD, Injector and Pump replacement, upgraded cooling system, etc. Allows the engine to perform better, RUN MUCH COOLER and under less strain, wear and tear, etc. Than the original equipment. I was startled to see the VERY restrictive OE cross-over pipe ! (Choking exhaust flow). The NEW thermostats and High-Output (130 GPM) water pump, NEW radiator, etc. Operates at 180 degrees, perfect for HOT summers and towing. The heater still gets plenty warm in cold weather and BOTH the heated seats work well, have HI and LO settings. A lot of problems you hear about older 6.5's are caused by inadequate cooling systems that GM was slow to correct. Dropping operating temp from 212 to 180 F adds engine life, certainly. Lots of FREE information is also available online now, there are LOTS of 6.5's still running strong. During a recent 'Valentines Day' freak winter storm/blizzard in central North Carolina, she pulled up EVERY hill successfully, even with a foot of unplowed snow drifts mixed with ice. The torque of the strong 6.5 diesel and the Michelin LTX 'mud & snow' tires are VERY effective in winter conditions. I gave rides to stranded motorists who had to abandon their vehicles and helped pull other vehicles (including some fancy AWD vehicles with regular summer tires AND a police cruiser) from the ditch. This is a VERY capable machine, NOT some fancy 'cross-over' vehicle with a weak AWD system. Engine fired up immediately in 8-degree weather WITHOUT plugging in 750-watt block heater. (2 strong batteries, NEW glow plug relay and NEW glow plugs, I don't cut corners when it comes to reliability in my vehicles). A NEW 1,000 watt engine block heater (uninstalled) is included. Apparently, diesel drivers in Canada install TWO block heaters! one on each side ! So why am I selling ? My kids are all in college now so I don't need '8-passenger' capability, no more trips to soccer, swimming, etc. Nearing retirement I also want to 'down-size' and 'simplify' my life. This is a LARGE 17-18 foot vehicle that requires a big parking space. However, it does have a COMMANDING presence on the road W/O a lift kit or giant wheels. It's GVWR is 8,600 ! Other drivers just DONT pull out in front of you or 'cut you off' typically. All the more remarkable for a heavy-duty hauler with 4 Low and a 4.10 rear end that gets in the teens on the highway. (TWICE the MPG of the 454 'big block') The Load Range 'E' 10-ply rating truck tires can safely hold 50-80 psi ! The 40+ gallon tank yields an impressive range for long-distance travel and/or towing, 600-650 miles ! If the WINNING bidder/buyer is not happy upon inspection, I won't mind if you change your mind. Just be realistic, this is a 16-year old truck. I want you to be satisfied with your purchase. I have tried to note every negative I can remember. ALL this stuff is on my 'to-do' list so some of the items may be fixed by the time the auction is over. I can be reached almost anytime if you're serious and have questions. I have obviously written a VERY detailed ad so READ IT a couple of times BEFORE you call, PLEASE. Comes with 2 remote key fobs, original owners manuals, and a HUGE portfolio of maintenance records and receipts (including engine and Trans replacement) Clear Title: Sign and Drive Home ! (Free pick-up from RDU airport if needed, 20 minutes away) Ray (919) 605-1552 PS. Vehicle is advertised locally on Raleigh NC Craigslist. 'Granddaddy SUV' |

Mark Reuss: GM can't afford product 'misses,' has 'thought about' CT6 V-Series
Thu, Apr 9 2015Mark Reuss is a busy man. He oversees General Motors' global product portfolio, an all-encompassing task for a company that sold more than 9.9 million cars and trucks last year. When GM launches a well-received product, like the road-going rocket ship that is the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 – he gets credit. When the company stumbles with the slow-selling Chevy Malibu or grapples with fallout from the decade-old Saturn Ion and its flawed ignition switch, he gets blamed. GM owners, the press and sometimes the federal government, demand answers. Bob Lutz famously held the job before Reuss. So did Mary Barra, who's now GM's chief executive. There's a New GM, but the lineage is connected to a long history. When he's not thinking product, Reuss, an executive vice president, also runs the purchasing and supply chain for the company, which is still one of the largest industrial empires in the world. We caught up with Reuss on the floor of the New York Auto Show, where GM had just rolled out two crucial new products: the 2016 Cadillac CT6 and the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. Speaking with a small group of reporters, Reuss delved into a variety of subjects, including the new Malibu, Cadillac's future (he thinks the ATS-V is going to "flame the M3 and M4"), and other topics. On fixing the Malibu: "We can't miss. We can't have those kinds of misses [like the previous generation] on our cars and crossovers and trucks. We can't do that. If we do that, we give a reason for someone to go buy something else. It's that simple. "On a car like the Malibu we have a chance to really fix all of that, which we have, and then lead. Then you've got a real opportunity there. So that's what we've really been focused on here – to fix those things." He later added: "We need that car here to transform Chevrolet desperately because it's the heart of the market. And when you think of Chevrolet, people will come back and think about what we did with the [new] Malibu and the Cruze... It's hugely important to us." On Cadillac: "If we go out and try and out-German the Germans, it's probably not going to work. We've got an opportunity here generationally where there's a lot of people younger than me that have parents that drove BMWs and Mercedes, and I think there's an opportunity there for those people to drive something different than what their parents did, and I think that's always been an opportunity in the auto industry if you look at the history of it.
GM promises to add 20 EVs and fuel-cell cars to lineup, paid for by SUVs
Mon, Oct 2 2017DETROIT — General Motors outlined plans on Monday to add 20 new battery electric and fuel-cell vehicles to its global product lineup by 2023, financed by robust profits from sales of gasoline-fueled trucks and sport utility vehicles in the United States and China. "General Motors believes in an all-electric future," GM global product development chief Mark Reuss said on Monday during a briefing at the company's suburban Detroit technical center. Future generations of GM electric vehicles "will be profitable," Reuss said, but added it was not clear when GM could make all its new vehicle offerings zero-emission electric cars. Regulators in China and some European countries have floated proposals to ban internal combustion engines by 2030 or 2040. "We will continue to make sure our internal combustion engines will get more and more efficient," Reuss said. GM shares were up more than 4 percent in midday New York trading on positive comments from Rod Lache, auto analyst at Deutsche Bank. Automakers, including electric vehicle market leader Tesla, lose money on electric cars because battery costs are still higher than comparable internal combustion engines. The company offered sneak peeks of three EV prototypes: a Buick SUV, a sporty Cadillac wagon and a futuristic pod car wearing a Bolt badge. GM funds its forays into new technology using a river of cash generated by old-technology vehicles popular with its core customer base in the United States heartland. In comparison, Tesla has burned through an estimated $10 billion in cash and has yet to show a full year profit. GM earned more than 90 percent of its $12.5 billion in pretax profits last year in North America, amid robust demand for its lineup of large sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks. The company's profitable operations in China rely on consumer demand for an expanding lineup of gasoline powered SUVs. GM has previously announced plans to make some of its future electric vehicles capable of driving themselves in robot taxi fleets. The company offered sneak peeks of three electric vehicle prototypes: a Buick brand sport utility vehicle, a sporty Cadillac wagon and a futuristic pod car wearing a Bolt badge. GM collaborated with Korean battery maker LG Chem to build the Bolt battery system. Company officials did not say what companies would supply batteries for the larger fleet of vehicles promised by 2023. Fuel-cell vehicles will also play a role in GM's future, the company said.
Chevy Spark EV could be coming to Midwest later this year
Tue, Jun 10 2014Ohio is not known as a hotbed of EV sales – if anything, the state is a bit anti-EV, thanks to a legislative fight against Tesla's direct sales model – but it might be on Chevrolet's short list to expand the market for the Spark EV in the near future. The latest official GM press release on the battery-powered Spark still says the car is "available exclusively in California and Oregon," but Hybrid Cars found four Ohio dealerships that list a Spark EV on their websites, with hints the the car will be coming to the Midwest state by the end of the summer. See, for example, here, here, here and here. But that's probably not going to happen, according to Randy Fox, GM communication's manager for passenger cars. Fox told AutoblogGreen that, "At this point in time, we don't have any official plans to expand the Spark EV beyond California and Oregon." The reason is that California and Oregon have the infrastructure to support EVs, Fox said, and GM wants to be able to support its EV customers. "We are continuing to look at other options," he said. "The selling point for electric cars today is not advertising, it's eyeballs, it's peer exposure" – John O'Dell John O'Dell, a senior editor at Edmunds.com, told AutoblogGreen that, "It makes sense for [GM] to expand sales and it makes sense to do it in a quiet manner, to get these vehicles on the road. The selling point for electric cars today is not advertising, it's eyeballs, it's peer exposure. If someone in my neighborhood has one and he likes it, then maybe I can trust him. So it's important to get these vehicles on the road." Chevy sold 182 Spark EVs last month, a significant increase over the 98 sold in April. That's still small potatoes compared to the 3,000+ Nissan Leaf EVs sold last month, but making the electric Spark available in Ohio, say, or GM's home state of Michigan could boost those numbers. AutoblogGreen called a few dealerships in Michigan to see what they had heard. One salesman said he didn't think GM had started production yet but the inventory manager for another dealership said the Spark EV is scheduled to arrive in the Midwest in "roughly the fourth quarter." What would GM's incentive be to offer the car in markets outside of California where it can gain ZEV credits with each sale?
