It is virtually all original -- the only obvious replacement I can find is the radio. Truck has not been lifted, cut, repainted in any way that I can find. Vehicle spent its entire life in California and Colorado (even after I bought in in '09, it stayed in CO through '12), therefore NO SIGNIFICANT RUST that I can find, even in the usual locations such as the rocker panels and the tailgate. Vehicle has bad paint typical of the era, made worse by baking in the sun all those years. Vehicle has taken two minor hits to body panels, both easy fixes -- tailgate and right rear quarter. Tires are very good. Vehicle has received regular maintenance by current owner past four years. 3-speed transmission (no overdrive) professionally rebuilt 2013. I drove this vehicle from South Carolina to Pennsylvania in June, no issues whatsoever. A pleasure to drive. Vehicle has front and rear A/C, system is intact but compressor would need to be replace"

This is one of my personal trucks, collection has simply become too large. This Suburban is highly reliable and as close to bone stock as you will find. Even the door panels are intact -- no aftermarket speakers. 4WD works as it should. I have replaced the windshield for a crystal clear view, and the oil cooler, which had a leak. I had the tranny rebuilt this year at the highest rated local transmission shop on Angie's List. Money I've put into after I bought it exceeds my asking price. First $2,500 takes it -- no auction, no dickering, no delay. Buy it now, pay me now, drive it home. AVAILABLE FOR TEST DRIVES DURING CARLISLE TRUCK SHOW. Call me at 717-609-3096; truck is parked one block from Fairgrounds; walk south on Clay St to Citizens Bank/Advanced Auto/Hess gas station. From 20 ft, truck looks great. From less than 20 feet, truck is butt-ugly due to sun-blistered paint. But once you get a millimeter or two down with your sander, you have an unmolested piece of classic Detroit iron exactly as it came from the factory. You could eat off the door sills. Interior is in decent/average condition -- headliner is good to very good, seat fabric is intact, no rips or tears, dash pad is covered and has the usual sun damage, carpet is intact but stained. No odors. Fold-down third seat, full operational tailgate. I've loved this truck, you can love it next.

GM trucks get hybrid versions, but you'll probably never see one

Thu, Feb 25 2016

A few years ago, General Motors sold hybrid versions of its Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. They weren't very good, using GM's old two-mode hybrid system that resulted in only negligible fuel economy gains. But GM's trying again, launching eAssist models of the 2016 Silverado and Sierra that are said to offer 2-mpg improvements in city, highway, and combined fuel economy ratings. Problem is, you probably won't be able to get one. Only 700 eAssist trucks will be made for the 2016 model year – 500 Silverados and 200 Sierras. When you consider that GM moved 824,683 examples of its light-duty pickups in 2015, this small run represents 0.08-percent of all Silverado/Sierra production, and GM says it "will monitor the market closely ... and adjust as appropriate moving forward." But that's not the only limitation. The eAssist trucks will only be sold through California dealers. For the Silverado, eAssist can only be optioned on the 1500 Crew Cab 1LT 2WD model, and for the Sierra, the fuel-saving technology is solely available on the 1500 SLT Crew Cab 2WD model with the SLT Premium Plus package. Granted, in terms of the Sierra, that means you get niceties like LED headlights and taillights, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bose premium audio, heated seats and steering wheel, lane keep assist, and more. In the trucks, eAssist combines a small electric motor and 0.45-kWh battery pack with the pickups' 5.3-liter V8. GM estimates total output of 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque – no more horsepower than the non-eAssist trucks, but three more pound-feet of torque. GM says the eAssist trucks can tow up to 9,400 pounds, and the battery only adds 100 pounds to the trucks' weight. The electric motor provides 13 hp and 44 lb-ft of torque for a boost of acceleration off the line, or during passing. It also allows the engine to run in four-cylinder mode for longer periods of time. eAssist uses regenerative braking to help power onboard electrical systems, and adds start/stop to the powertrain. Finally, the so-equipped trucks have a six-percent improvement in aerodynamics, thanks to a soft tonneau cover and active grille shutters in the front fascia. Great news is, the eAssist option is relatively inexpensive, only costing $500. But good luck getting your hands on one.

This 93-car Iowa auction is like a Big 3 classic muscle museum

Tue, Aug 27 2019

Bill "Coyote" Johnson has been buying cars since high school and has amassed a collection totaling 113 vehicles, according to NBC 6 News. But time has changed his motivations and priorities, and he's decided to auction 93 of those cars, many of which are classic muscle from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth and Pontiac. The megasale will take place Sept. 14, 2019, in Red Oak, Iowa, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. A 1969 Plymouth Road Runner infected Coyote with a love for Detroit muscle when he was just a teenager, and his desire quickly turned into an obsession. He's spent the past 40 years finding, buying and working on a variety of makes and models. Unlike some collectors, Coyote didn't discriminate against certain brands and has rides from each of the Big 3 automakers. Included in the auction are Camaros, Satellites, Super Bees, Chargers, Challengers, Barracudas, Coronets, GTOs, Mustangs, Cutlasses and others. Possibly the most intriguing aspect of the auction is that all of these cars will be sold as-is with no reserve. Many of them will need work, depending on quality standards, but this seems like a golden opportunity to find a classic car without leaving a bank account in shambles.  The auctions are open for bidding online now, and the full auction will take place on September 14. Check out the full listings and bid at VanDerBrink Auctions.
