1986 Chevrolet Suburban 3/4 Ton 4x4 on 2040-cars
Mason, Illinois, United States
1986 Chevrolet K20 Suburban Up for auction is our 1986 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban. This is a very well maintained vehicle with seating for 8 passengers. The interior is in fantastic shape for a 28 year old truck. All interior and exterior lights and gauges work perfectly (even the analog dash clock). It has 3 rows of seats, all are without stains or tears. The carpet is also in wonderful condition showing minor fading but no stains, tears or holes. The dash pad has two thin cracks, one above the speedometer and one in the speaker opening. All of the power windows function properly and smoothly. The rear windows from the driver’s row back have been professionally tinted. Overall, the interior is nicer than most 2 year old vehicles you see listed on eBay. The Suburban has 99,987 original miles on its 350 V8 and 3 speed automatic transmission. This was the last year for a factory carburetor and no emission controls in 3/4 ton and up trucks; which means it has a factory dual exhaust without catalytic converters. The Suburban features a factory towing package and 40 gallon gas tank. Factory luggage rack. Front and rear air and heat (air conditioner compressor functions properly but needs recharged). The four-wheel drive works flawlessly both in high and low range. Recent upgrades include: · New headliner · New tires with less than 3,000 miles · Upgraded to dual master cylinder · New windshield · Rebuilt front end · CD/mp3 compatible stereo The Suburban body is in good shape for the year and this particular body style. The two-tone blue and silver paint shines nicely and presents very well. The red pinstripes are straight and un-cracked. There are a few spots where the paint is starting to bubble over the driver’s side front and rear wheel well arches. Also the paint is starting to separate from the body behind the rear wheel wells just above tail pipes. Just under the driver’s side long rear window there is a small rust spot starting. Inside both front fender wells there is a small hole in the factory under-coating. Behind that you can see factory blue painted metal. If you are familiar with this body style suburban, these are all the typical problem spots; however none of the areas are very advanced and all-in-all it is in great shape. There is an un-creased dent on the driver’s front door where the towing mirror mount meets the door. It could be easily popped out by simply removing the interior door panel and pushing it out. All of these issues are featured in the photo section. I have listed all of the “problems” I can think of. This suburban is very mechanically sound. It starts every time and runs down the road straight and true. Drive it anywhere in comfort and style. It will make someone a great family truck, camping vehicle, work horse, first car……? Try to find another 3/4 ton 4x4, this well maintained for such a low price. We are selling it simply because we have run out of garage space and have two other Suburbans. Located in central Illinois, feel free to come and take a look if you are in the area. Email, call or text (Six 1 eight) three 67 two eight 6 three with any questions. |

GM files to trademark name Badlands
Mon, Feb 23 2015If you've been hoping for General Motors to come out swinging at the Ford F-150 Raptor, we've had some tantalizing news for you of late. Last month we brought you a report that indicated GM has trademarked the name "Z71 Trail Boss," suggesting a potential hardcore off-roader. Now it seems the General has filed for a potentially even better name. That name, as our friends over at GM Authority have discovered, is "Badlands." The application, filed on February 16, indicates that it's for a truck, but of course it doesn't specify just what form it would take... or for that matter, under which division it would fall. So we could, in theory, be looking at the nameplate for a Raptor rival from Chevy or GMC (like the 2011 Sierra All Terrain HD concept pictured here), or for some other trim level, a concept truck, a special edition... just about anything. Heck, it could be for a Vauxhall, Opel or Holden for all we know at this point. Or GM could choose not to use it on anything at all, but here's hoping it'll emerge as something awesome in US showrooms sometime soon. A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]
Thu, Dec 18 2014Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.
2020 Chevy Trax and Buick Encore spied testing
Tue, Aug 14 2018We just recently saw a little crossover SUV from General Motors being tested, and we weren't positive what brand it belonged to. We narrowed it down to Chevy or GMC, but we're feeling more confident that it's a GMC now, since both the next generation Chevy Trax and Buick Encore subcompact crossover SUVs have been spied testing together. Of the two, the Chevy has the more radically different sheet metal. It ditches the somewhat frumpy, lumpy shape of the current Trax for a body inspired by the bigger Chevy Blazer. The roofline has sharp corners, and the hood is wide and flat. The front fascia, though obscured, shows the most connection to the bigger crossover. It has the same split headlight configuration, and it looks as though the grille takes up a sizable section of the fascia. View 7 Photos The Buick Encore on the other hand looks evolutionary in design. The body still has plenty of curves, and the distinctive, sharply rising window sill are all hallmarks of the current Encore design. The headlights and grille are similar, too, though the grille appears to be slightly updated to fit in with the Enclave and Regal. It's understandable that Buick might want to play it safe with the new Encore, since the model is Buick's best seller, selling about 23,000 units in the last quarter, nearly twice that of the next best performer, the Enclave. Since this is the first time we've seen these little crossovers, we expect it will still be a year or two before we get to see them fully revealed. They will probably continue to use small-displacement turbocharged four-cylinder engines with either front- or all-wheel drive. Related Video:
