Due to employment concerns I am putting up for sale this beautiful 2003 Chevy Silverado LT. I will try to explain the truck as complete as possible so feel free to ask additional questions or for additional pictures as needed. The truck is a full 4 door quad cab truck with dual rear wheels. It is a 4x4 and has the Duramax turbo diesel with an allison 5 speed overdrive transmission. The truck runs rides and drives great. It does have smoke at idle, I do not see any smoking at any other time than at idle. It does not use a drop of any fluid in the truck and it runs smooth with no unusual noises or miss. Trans shifts great and runs cool as shown by the factory trans temp gauge in the dash. I have changed the oil and filter and trans filter since I have owned the truck. I bought it spring 2012 from the original owner and it currently has just shy of 208000 miles. truck was maintained completely and totally when anything came up by the previous owner. I can provide the name of the shop that did all the work after the factory warranty ended. The 6 tires on the truck are near new with a few thousand miles on them, the spare tire has never seen the road. Beautiful Alcoa aluminum wheels with the factory chrome Chevy caps mounted on them. Truck has original 3" exhaust in great condition, the brakes feel and work great. The body is very nice but not perfect. There is rust on the rocker panels and as typical the gas fuel door. there is also two small spots on the left rear door. I bought complete new rocker panels for the truck and am including them with the sale. There is minor touch up on the paint on the tailgate and also on the left rear dually fender. No damage, must have been some scratches. There is a GM plastic bedliner covered by a rubber bed mat that has been in the truck since new. Covering the bed is a folding hard tonneau cover that locks on both ends. I also installed a factory tailgate handle lock so the bed can be securely locked without easy access. It has a billet aluminum tube grill, a hood bug shield, and four piece stainless steel polished running boards. I currently have the rear two pieces off the truck but they are included. The interior is beautiful with heated leather (upper and lower heating) power bucket seats with a complete center console. they have multiple driver memory settings and  the rear seat has a fold down center armrest with cupholders inside. There is no hole or damage inside the truck. Has floormats covering the factory carpet. Interior options include an Alpine tilt screen HD stereo CD/DVD player with a built in (or stand alone) GPS system. The GPS is inside the unit and can be controlled through the head unit or it can be removed and mounted on the windshield as any standard GPS unit. An HD reciever brings in many additional stations and the stereo can play CDs as well as DVD movies. I installed an adapter so all the factory steering wheel controls still control the stereo. It all plays through the factory Bose speaker system so it sounds great. Truck is Onstar capable and has the digital compass in the rearview mirror. It also has power heated remote mirrors which are also power extending as well as having turn signals in the glass. Steering wheel controls besides stereo includes multiple trip memory, hour meter, mileagefuel mileage and distance till empty and more. Other options include rear window defroster, dual climate controls, dual factory airbags, tilt wheel, full factory gauges, ice cold a/c and hot heat, power windows and locks. The truck has a remote start system which includes an alarm system and a pager which alerts you in there is any problems with the vehicle. It comes with two remotes as well as the factory keyless entry remote system. Currently the truck has a Volant cold air intake system which helps with mpg, the only modification on the truck that is not a visual one. If the buy it now option is used, I will leave the air box system on the truck. If any other bid is placed I will reinstall the factory air box on the truck. Also please note that even though there is an electric brake controller in the pictures, it is not included in the sale. if you buy it now I will install a new brake control unit. I would drive this truck across the country and back with zero concerns I am that confident in the truck, Believe me, if the job was not in question, this truck would NOT be for sale. Upon auctions end a $500 non refundable deposit is due via paypal. Final payment will be due by cash in person only. if the vehicle will be shipped and you will not be here in person, contact me before to make arrangements for payment. If you pay by any sort of check (personal, cashier, bank, etc) the truck wil not leave until the bank verifys funds are cleared. This truck needs nothing that I am aware of but it will be sold as is and has no warranty or guarantee. Again I cannot stress enough, if you have a question or need more information, do not hesitate to ask. good luck and happy bidding!!!

GM recalls Chevy Express, GMC Savana over rollaway concern

Mon, 21 Jan 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall notice for a small number of General Motors fullsize vans due to possible rollaway concerns. On certain 2013 Chevrolet Express and 2013 GMC Savana models, it is possible to remove the key from the ignition without the shifter being in park.
Only 980 total units are being affected by this recall, and GM is fixing the issue by replacing the ignition cylinder and associated keys. Affected Chevy vans were built during most of November and December while its GMC counterpart was only built for a week in November. The recall goes into effect on January 23, and to find out if your vehicle applies to the recall, the GM and NHTSA contact numbers can be found on the official recall notice, which is posted below.

What car should James Robertson buy to drive his famous 21-mile commute?

Thu, Feb 5 2015

The Internet has been abuzz this week with the story of Detroit resident James Robertson, the 56-year-old factory worker who has walked some 21 miles to work for the last 10 years. The Detroit Free Press brought Robertson's story to the fore, helping an online fundraising campaign to generate more than $275,000 (as of this writing). The original goal was just $5,000, or about enough to replace the used Honda that died on Robertson back in 2005, and left him walking. So, newly flush with funds, what's the perfect car for Robertson to buy? Let's look at the specifics of his situation, and try to pick out the best options. Here's what we know: Robertson's commute is (famously) 21 miles; he lives in downtown Detroit (for now) and seems pretty humble, so something very flashy is probably out; former Honda aside, his ties to the city (and statements about being a Ford fan) seem to indicate a Detroit Three company product is best; he's a single guy with a girlfriend; he's got to deal with Michigan weather, and the sometimes fickle snow removal processes in The D. Here are some choices: Ford F-150 Robertson is on record as being a Taurus fan, and after a decade of walking I've no doubt that the big sedan would offer a cozy respite. Still, as a car guy and a student of the industry, I'd have a hard time recommending a sedan so clearly in need of replacement. Especially when The Blue Oval has such great stuff within the rest of its roster. The 2015 F-150 seems almost perfect for Robertson. Opting for either of the new EcoBoost V6 engines should help keep fuel bills in reasonable check, while healthy ride height and four-wheel drive will get him to work on time even during the snowiest of snow days. Better still, with a fat options sheet and car-like ride quality, Robertson can have just about every amenity he might want, in a package that won't disrespect his blue-collar roots. Chevrolet Colorado You guys saw this one coming, right? The smaller footprint of the midsize Chevy pickup, relative to some of the other options here, should be an advantage for urban parking and driving. And again, 4x4 is an option for the nasty weather, the running costs should stay pretty low and there aren't many tech/luxury features that can't be had in-cabin. I'd go ahead and splash out on the Crew Cab bodystyle, too, just in case Robertson feels like starting a carpool.

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Chevrolet Sprint Plus

Fri, Jun 16 2023

General Motors sold second- and third-generation Suzuki Cultuses with Geo or Chevrolet Metro badging in the United States from 1989 through 2001 model years, and we've all seen plenty of those cars on the street over the years. The first-generation Cultus was sold here as well, with Chevrolet Sprint badges, and I've found a rare example of the Sprint five-door hatchback in a Northern California car graveyard. The Chevy Sprint first appeared on the West Coast as a 1985 model, then became available everywhere in the United States for the 1986 through 1988 model years (in Canada, it was sold as the Pontiac Firefly). It was available here as a hatchback with three or five doors; for 1986 only, the five-door was badged as the Sprint Plus. Soon enough, The General would be selling many more Asian-built cars with Detroit badges here. Isuzu I-Marks were sold as Chevrolet/Geo Spectrums starting in the 1986 model year, while Daewoo provided the Pontiac LeMans two years later. Under the hood, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder rated at 48 horsepower. The five-door Sprint cost $5,580 in 1986, which was $200 more than the three-door (those prices would be $15,445 and $14,891 in 2023 dollars). I've documented seven discarded Sprints prior to this one (including an extremely rare Turbo Sprint), and all of them were three-doors; we can assume that price was the most important factor for Sprint buyers. Gasoline prices were crashing hard during the middle 1980s, but memories of gas lines and odd-even-day fuel rationing from 1979 remained strong. What cars competed with the '86 Sprint on sticker price? Well, there was no way to undercut the hilariously affordable (and terrible) Yugo GV, which cost $3,990. The much bigger (but still pretty bad) Hyundai Excel listed at $4,995, while Toyota would sell you a sturdy (but zero-fun) Tercel starting at $5,448. Even the wretched Chevy Chevette — yes, it was still available in 1986 — cost $5,645. The original buyer of this car was willing to shell out an extra $395 to get an automatic instead of the base five-speed manual. That's about $1,093 in today's money. This car must have been slow. By the end, the doors were held shut with duct tape, but it still stayed alive until age 37. 53 miles per gallon on the highway! It does everything. The camels of the highway.
