2015 Chevy Colorado gets its GearOn before Chicago

Complementing the Chevrolet Silverado Midnight Edition at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show is this, the 2015 Colorado GearOn Edition, which as the name might suggest, takes full advantage of the company's truck accessory catalog. Available on the volume LT trim and in both crew and extended cab varieties and with both the short and long-bed options, the GearOn Edition adds plenty of nifty extras designed to increase the truck's versatility and help accommodate bikes, kayaks and other outdoorsy items. The GearOn bars package, divider package and tie-down rings are supplemented an "EZ" lift and lower tailgate, side steps, gloss black 18-inch wheels, a body color grille, and blacked-out Chevy badges. And although it's not specifically called out in the attached press release, the paint on this special edition looks different than anything else in the truck's catalog. We dig it, especially with the black accents. Prices, meanwhile, start at $31,250, which is not even $1,200 more than a Colorado Extended Cab LT 4x4. It's offered on LT models in extended or crew cab configurations, with the long or short cargo bed and available 4WD. "Chevrolet Colorado answers the call for customers who have passions of all types and the GearOn accessory system enables them to bring more adventure wherever they go," said Tony Johnson, Colorado marketing manager. "And with Colorado offering segment-leading efficiency and capabilities, it's a combination that maximizes adventure without compromise." The GearOn accessory system is designed for easy configuration with a multitude of mounting accessories for everything from bikes, kayaks, skis and stand-up paddle boards to a bed-mounted tent.

GM opens military discount to 21M veterans and their spouses

May marks the start of National Military Appreciation Month, and General Motors is getting into the spirit by expanding its military discount program to, well, just about everyone. That includes a total of 21 million military veterans and their spouses, along with the current slate of active duty, reserve, and National Guard members. The discount can slash thousands of dollars off the price of a new Buick, Chevrolet, or GMC vehicles, with Automotive News listing an $1,100 discount on the top gas-powered version of the Malibu, the Premiere. Those that want a bit more spice can get $1,700 off the price of a last-generation 2015 Camaro SS, while truck buyers will enjoy $3,000 off the Chevy Silverado All Star. That's just a start, though, since the military discount can be paired with other GM incentives. The discount doesn't apply to everything, though. Some are understandable – none of Cadillac's vehicles are included in the deal, nor is the Corvette Z06. You'll also be unable to apply the discount to a range of base-level trims, like the Chevy Cruze or Equinox L, the base Colorado, or the entry level GMC Acadia, Canyon, and Terrain. Chevrolet took an early lead for the 2015 Super Bowl advertising crown with its spot for the all-new, 4G LTE-capable Colorado pickup in a spot that simulated a problem with your TV. The stark, simple ad then states that if you're lucky enough to have an Internet-capable vehicle, like the new Colorado, you'd at least be able to stream the game.
