GM expected to debut two new crossovers at Detroit Auto Show
Thu, Dec 15 2016Next month, General Motors is expected to debut two new crossovers at the North American International Auto Show. That's according to Automotive News and The Wall Street Journal, which reports that the successors to the aging Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Terrain will finally make their debut. The two crossovers have been on sale since 2009 and 2010 respectively and are due for updates as the competition has newer models on the market. Both crossovers play in growing market segments where sales success is crucial for the respective brands. GM, and the automotive industry as a whole, has been shifting its focus towards crossovers in the last few years. The Traverse and the Terrain are some of the oldest SUVs on the market and are in dire need of an update. GMC's Acadia, the former corporate clone to the Traverse (and Buick Acadia), switched to a new platform in 2016. And the Terrain's platform-mate, the Chevrolet Equinox, was revealed a few months ago. Both the new Chevy and GMC models are expected to go on sale late in 2017 as 2018 models. Look for a follow up to the Traverse's sister, the Buick Enclave, to make an appearance soon. Chevy Volt gets customer satisfaction 'recall' for rear hatch issue *UPDATE*
Mon, Jan 26 2015Last week, General Motors has issued a "Customer Satisfaction program" for some 2011-2015 model year Chevrolet Volts to fix the manual rear lift gate not working as appropriate. According to Volt owner posts on Facebook, the problem manifests itself by the hatch not opening up all the way (sometimes worse in the cold) with some people bumping their heads. Dealers will replace the lift gate struts as part of the program. Some drivers were notified through the vehicle's OnStar system that there is a problem. GM has not yet said how many Volts are affected. *UPDATE* This program is for all 2011-2015 model year Volts. Chevrolet spokesperson Michelle Malcho told AutoblogGreen that, "This is not a recall, so there won't be any formal information posted on the GM website." The fixes will be free to affected Volt owners. Some 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX vehicles are also affected by the same problem and will also be fixed. 2014 Corvette Stingray meets Tesla Model S in drag strip showdown
Wed, Jan 29 2014They come from two different worlds and have little in common. The Tesla Model S P85 is the sportiest version of this paradigm-punching sedan from California, while the 2014 Corvette Stingray Z51 is a performance-enhanced version of Michigan's recently-updated sports car stalwart. The West Coast car seats five adults and eats electrons like Popeye eats spinach, the Easterner has two passenger places and, surprisingly, sips gasoline like one might bourbon. An attribute they do happen to share is extreme quickness. This similarity is all the excuse Drag Times needed to set the vehicles beside each other at the Palm Beach International Raceway for a bit of mano-a-mano quarter-mile combat. Fortunately enough, cameras were rolling for each of two bouts down the blacktop and the results recorded for our edification and enlightenment. The winner?
