I JUST MOVED BACK TO CHICAGO FROM FLORIDA IN JANUARY 2013. USED MY TRUCK TO HAUL A TRAILER TO GET ME BACK HERE. I NOW LONGER HAVE A NEED FOR SUCH A LARGE TRUCK. THIS TRUCK IS A BASE MODEL REGULAR CAB, 2WD, V6, AUTOMATIC, WHITE, AM/FM RADIO, RUBBER FLOORS, LONG BED.
I ADDED FACTORY CRUISE CONTROL, AFTERMARKET POWER WINDOWS AND A CLASS 4 HITCH. THIS TRUCK HAS 277,000 MILES ONLY BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS OWNER PUT A 3.73 REAR AXLE IN IT. THE ORIGINAL AXLE RATIO SHOULD BE 3.23 SO WITH THE 3.73 RATIO IN IT NOW THE MILEAGE IS HIGHER THAN IT ACTUALLY IS. I PURCHASED A POWER PROGRAMMER IN JANUARY TO FIX THIS ISSUE. WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK THE SPEEDO WAS READING 10 MPH FASTER THAN THE ACTUAL SPEED OF THE TRUCK SO YOU CAN SEE HOW FAST THE MILEAGE WILL INCREASE. NOW THAT THIS IS OUT OF THE WAY HERE IS ALL THE WORK I DID TO IT TO PREPARE FOR THE TRIP BACK HOME. TRUCK GOT 14 MPG TOWING A 3000 LBS ENCLOSED TRAILER AND ~ 1000 LBS IN THE BED. NOT BAD AT ALL. I WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK DAILY UP UNTIL A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. TITLE HAS BEEN CHANGED OVER TO AN ILLINOIS TITLE NOW AND IT IS IN MY HAND READY FOR A NEW OWNER. THIS IS A WORK TRUCK SO IT DOES HAVE MINOR DAMAGE AND DINGS. YOU WONT FIND A BETTER WELL MAINTAINED VEHICLE.

I REPLACED THE FOLLOWING PARTS IN JANUARY:
CAP
ROTOR
PLUG WIRES
SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER
E3 DIAMOND FIRE SPARK PLUGS
LEFT TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY REPLACED
REAR MAIN SEAL
OIL PAN GASKET
BOTH ENGINE MOTOR MOUNTS
TRANSMISSION MOUNT
FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS
REAR BRAKE SHOES AND DRUMS
MOBILE 1 SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGES
SYNTHETIC DEXTRON 5 TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE
TRANSGO SHIFT KIT INSTALLED
SYNTHETIC DIFFERENTIAL FLUID CHANGE
FLUSHED BRAKE FLUID
FLUSHED COOLING SYSTEM
FLUSHED POWER STEERING FLUID
INSTALLED CLASS 4 HITCH
INSTALLED OEM CRUISE CONTROL MODULE AND STALK
INSTALLED AFTERMARKET POWER WINDOWS
REPLACED STOCK 17" STEEL WHEELS WITH A SET OF GM 17" ALUMINUM WHEELS
INSTALLED USED MICHELIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCK TIRES OFF A DUALLY (TIRES ARE SLIGHTLY TALLER THAN STOCK TO COMPENSATE A LITTLE FOR THE 3.73 AXLE)
POWER PROGRAMMER (USED TO RECALIBRATE THE COMPUTER FOR THE 3.73 AXLE AND THE TALLER TIRES SO THE SPEEDO IS NOW ACCURATE )
SPRAY ON BEDLINER
I INSTALLED A LOUD FLOWMASTER MUFFLER TO GIVE IT SOME EXTRA POWER WHEN TRAVELING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS TO GET HERE.

THERES NO SUCH THING AS A VEHICLE THAT DOESNT NEED WORK SO HERE IS WHAT I KNOW IT NEEDS: NOTHING MAJOR OR MECHANICAL IS WRONG WITH IT. TRUCK RUNS AND DRIVER GREAT.

AC CONTROL HEAD HAS AN INTERMITTENT FAILURE (AC WILL CUT OUT WHEN IT FAILS. WHEN ITS WORKING AC BLOWS VERY COLD. CAN GET CHEAP ON EBAY)
HEADLINER NEEDS REPLACING
OIL PRESSURE GAUGE JUST FAILED ON ME (I REPLACE THE RPM GAUGE MOTOR. SHORTLY AFTER THAT, THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE MOTOR STARTED TO FAIL. IT PEGS TO FULL OIL PRESSURE. A COMPLETE MOTOR KIT CAN BE PURCHASED ON EBAY FOR ~30.00 SHIPPED. IF YOU CAN SOLDER, YOU CAN INSTALL IT. IF YOU CANT, THERE ARE MANY CLUSTER REPAIR COMPANIES THAT CAN REBUILD THE COMPLETE CLUSTER FOR ~100.00)
SERPENTINE BELT IS DUE FOR REPLACEMENT

Chevrolet Camaros at SEMA are a mobile accessory catalog

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

Chevy's goal at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas this week seems to be to show as much of its Performance and Accessories catalog as possible. That's why it brought three different Camaros - two with V8s and one powered by a V6 - with all of the best goodies from the catalog already fitted.
We gave a more in-depth recap of the Performance Camaro V8 Concept, the Performance Camaro V6 Concept and the Performance Garage Concept already, but we figured you'd like a short recap for each. It should be noted, though, that you can order all of the items you see here for your own Camaro, so be sure to take a long, hard look at our live galleries, just in case you're in the market for some mods.
Essentially, the Performance Garage Concept and the Performance V8 Concept are the same car - the only difference is that the later features a whole host of aesthetic tweaks in addition to its aftermarket, shorty exhaust headers and 2.75-inch exhaust. (The Performance Garage Concept has been usefully placed on its side; the better to see the new parts added to the vehicle.) The Performance V6 Concept is notable because, despite being a V6, there's no shortage of performance goodies fitted. All three of the Performance Camaros benefit from items from the Camaro ZL1, which can also be ordered through the catalog.

IIHS gives good ratings to 4 of 8 midsize pickups in crash test

Wed, Sep 6 2017

Versions of the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Crew Cab earned top ratings in a new crash test of midsize pickup trucks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, while two versions of the Nissan Frontier earned marginal ratings. But the organization gave poor marks to all eight pickups tested for their dim headlights. Overall, four of the eight pickups evaluated earned good ratings for protecting occupants in all five crash test categories — the Tacoma double cab along with crew cab versions of the Colorado, Canyon and Tacoma. But the poor headlights and lack of an automatic emergency braking system blocked any of the pickups from qualifying for the IIHS's Top Safety Pick awards. The study looked at two pickup body styles using 2017 models: crew cabs, which have four full doors and two full rows of seating, and extended cabs, which have two full front doors, two smaller rear doors and compact second-row seats. It subjected each to five tests, and it evaluated the performance of front crash prevention systems and headlights. The Toyota Tacoma crew cab was the only pickup in that class that earned a good rating for structure in the small overlap test, which replicates what happens when a vehicle clips a tree, pole or another vehicle that has crossed the center line. The model's Access Cab extended-cab version was rated similarly, though its structure was rated acceptable. "This group of small pickups performed better in the small overlap front test than many of their larger pickup cousins," says David Zuby, the Institute's executive vice president and chief research officer. "The exception was the Nissan Frontier, which hasn't had a structural redesign since the 2005 model year." The extended-cab versions of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon earned acceptable ratings, while both the Nissan Frontier king-cab and crew-cab models were rated marginal. Toyota says its 2018 Tacoma will feature upgraded headlights and a standard autobraking system that can detect pedestrians. "Headlights are basic but vital safety equipment. Drivers shouldn't have to give up the ability to see the road at night when they choose a small pickup," Zuby said. GM’s Charlie Wilson was right: Stronger regulations can help U.S. automakers

Fri, Oct 26 2018

Charlie Wilson had been the president and CEO of General Motors before being nominated to become secretary of defense by Dwight Eisenhower. During his Senate confirmation hearings, he controversially said, "For years I thought what was good for our country was good for General Motors, and vice versa." And he was right. While car companies aren't necessarily the most progressive when it comes to things that might have the slightest possibility of political blowback, General Motors should be credited for doing something absolutely forthright in this regard with its announcement that it wants the federal U.S. government not to squash the California Air Resources Board's emissions requirements but to actually create a 50-state "National Zero Emissions Vehicle" program that, in the words of Mark Reuss, executive vice president and president, Global Product Group and Cadillac, "will drive the scale and infrastructure investments needed to allow the U.S. to lead the way to a zero emission future." Filing comments to the Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Rule for Model Years 2021-2026 Passenger Cars and Light Trucks is one thing. But a graphic the company developed for this announcement — shown above — is something else entirely, something that is absolutely credible, creative and clever. There is a photo of a Chevrolet Bolt EV driving along a highway, which seems to be in Marin County (based on the blurred San Francisco skyline in the background). Text on the photo states: "It's Time for American Leadership in Zero Emissions Vehicles." It seems to say, in effect, "If we want to make America great again, then we're going to do it by leading in technology, not by retreating behind weakened regulations." General Motors understands that the auto market is globally competitive, and if U.S.-based companies are going to be in the game, then they'd better be able to out-innovate the companies based elsewhere, where emissions and economy standards are not being weakened. What's good for our country ... Related Video:
