1980 Chevy Truck, 4x4 on 2040-cars
Greenup, Kentucky, United States
Professionally heavy duty built, 1980 Chevy, short wheel base, 4x4 with 1982 3/4 ton drive train. Has a Jegs or Jasper factory built 350, not sure of HP, or cam size, but sounds and runs like a beast. A year or so ago it had all new motor, aluminum intake, Holly carb, headers, dual exhaust, rebuilt auto tranny with shift kit installed. Has nearly new Goodyear 37x12.5x16.5 military OZ mud tires, with spare. At local 4 wheel drive shop had 6" lift kit with dual shocks and dual stabilizer shocks installed. Also install a steering box, frame brace from National Tire and Wheel welded in before any big tires and wheels were put on. The welder said it was the best, cleanest frame he had ever seen from this year of truck. Had a new front drive shaft made with new yoke and splines. New universal joints, brakes and shocks all around. Installed 3/4 ton rear end and front end from an 82 GMC, with 373 gears. Runs and drives straight as an arrow, no shakes, shimmies or road walking. Starts right up, no carb issues at all. Works perfect Don't ever have to touch it. Truck has no leaks or drips or mystery spots left on drive way. All gauges work great. All lights, signals, wipers, heater work fine. The body is really solid. Cab mounts are good, new inner fenders. Only had 2 small rust spots about 2x2 inches at bottom of both doors that needed patched. Bed is completely solid, has no rust thru anywhere, but tailgate latch handle is missing. Body is tight and was sanded and primed and painted with gray Ford tractor paint. Looks great from about 20 feet away (haha). Was more into the mechanical side than the paint side when built. The body is really straight and would be easily painted at an auto body shop. I didn't install lockers, because I didn't to rape in the mud or woods. I use it to drive to work every day, and to haul firewood or whatever, and not have to worry about getting stuck in ruts or snow. I love driving it. It sounds great and shifts great. The seat is good, but the old dash pad is cracked. The floor had one small hole in it I patched. The interior is old, but all there. Could be replaced with after market stuff cheap, and look like a new truck inside again. It's a really solid, manly truck. Not a poser 1/2 ton with big tires. It will go about anywhere off-road, or get in it and drive cross country on the interstates. It never overheats or uses oil. The motor came from a friend of mine at work who originally bought the truck from his neighbor's wife. Her husband had ordered the new motor and had it put in, but he passed away 13,000 miles later. I'd say it now has about 18,000 miles on it. This truck will last you for years to come. It is a really dependable truck. I hate to sell it, but I'm facing surgery and will be off work for a good while, and going to need extra money to pay the bills. |

Chevy Colorado gets box delete option designed for upfitters
Fri, Mar 6 2015The Colorado, which marks the return of Chevrolet to the midsize truck segment, is receiving critical praise, and now it's time for the pickup to get to work. At the National Truck Equipment Association Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, IN, Chevy is unveiling a box delete option package for the model that allows businesses to custom tailor the Colorado to their needs. The choice to remove the bed is exclusively available on the Colorado Work Truck trim in the rear-wheel drive, extended cab model with a 305-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 and six-speed automatic gearbox, and Chevy claims this is the only option of its type in the segment. Beyond the obvious loss of the rear, these trucks feature eight mounting points on the frame for upfitters to install any necessary modifications. They also get the Z82 trailering package and a locking differential. The versions with the box delete package carry a payload rating of 2,200 pounds an a gross vehicle weight rating of 6,001 pounds. "It's ideal for utility companies requiring service bodies, as well as landscapers and other businesses needing the utility of a flatbed," Ed Peper, US Vice President for General Motors Fleet and Commerical, said in the option's announcement. Further options with the package are limited to choosing a repositioned fuel filler for the upfitter to install and deleting the rear seat for extra interior capacity. The box delete becomes available in mid-April, and buyers get a $300 credit off the price of the Colorado when it's selected. Colorado 'Box Delete' Expands Options for Businesses Chevrolet package offers unique midsize pickup platform for alternative uses 2015-03-04 INDIANAPOLIS – With a box delete option, business owners and fleet managers can have it their way when it comes to customizing the back end of the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado. Chevrolet today announced availability of the package in mid-April. It is on display this week at the annual National Truck Equipment Association Work Truck Show in Indianapolis. It is the only such option offered in the midsize truck segment. "With the segment-leading efficiency and maneuverable size, the Colorado makes a great, flexible choice for urban businesses and fleets to make the most of a midsize truck," said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet & Commercial.
GM files for Z71 Trail Boss trademark
Mon, Jan 26 2015Try as they might to keep their plans a secret, automakers have their hands tipped through a variety of methods – be they through loose lips, spy shots or patent and trademark applications. That's how we know, in this instance, that General Motors is working on (or at least considering) an off-road machine wearing the name Z71 Trail Boss – the name which our compatriots at AutoGuide.com tell us that GM has registered for use on light-duty trucks. Now if that alphanumeric designator sounds familiar, it should. GM has long used it to designate the off-road packages on many of its body-on-frame trucks from Chevy and GMC. These days you can order a Z71 package on the Chevy Colorado, Silverado, Tahoe and Suburban and on the GMC Canyon, Sierra and Yukon. The package typically includes components like a beefed-up suspension bits, high-capacity air cleaner and underbody protection plates. The Trail Boss designator would seem to suggest something further reaching than a suspension package, though. Just what it would entail we don't know; minds immediately start running toward Chevy or GMC going after the Ford F-150 Raptor, but we'll likely be looking at something closer to the Trailhawk packages Jeep offers on the likes of the Renegade and Cherokee. Watch the live reveal of the 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra [UPDATE]
Thu, 13 Dec 2012UPDATE: The trucks have been revealed. Click here for all of the official details.
As promised, Chevrolet and GMC are offering a live webcast of the world premiere for the all-new 2014 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. After being teased with spy shots and blurry images like the one above for ages, now is the time to see the trucks in the metal, for real (well, as 'real' as it gets on a webcast, at any rate).
Shift your eyes down just below to see the reveal as it happens, starting at 9:30 AM EST. We anticipate having loads of images full technical information to share after the webcast, too, so truck aficionados should stay tuned. We'll also be bringing you live images of both trucks too, when we see them on the show floor at next month's Detroit Auto Show.
