1959 Chevrolet Apache
Big Window Pickup
This is a completely restored 1959 Chevrolet Apache pickup. Less than 500 miles since the restoration was completed in June 2013. The truck is powered by a 383 Stroker with a Holley 4 barrel carb. The block is new and came from Skip White in Tennessee. A small to medium Cam gives this powerful engine just the right deep, lumpy sound. A 1800 stall converter has been added. It has a late model front with serpentine belt and is rated at just over 400 H.P. The 700r4 automatic transmission shifts smoothly and creates a modest 2300 RPM at 70 MPH.
The underside has been updated with a 1980 Camaro front clip and rear end. A Heidt's 4 link suspension kit and dual sway bars have been installed for stability in driving. The exhaust has been upgraded to a complete stainless steel system from the headers to the tips.
Additional mechanical upgrades include a Champion aluminum 4 core radiator, Derale dual electric cooling fans and Wilwood disc brakes on all 4 wheels.
Now for the creature comforts and cosmetic upgrades. The cab includes a Dakota digital dash instrument cluster, a Ididit chrome tilt steering column, Specialty brand 1 piece glass power windows, a double DIN CD/DVD player with GPS, shaved door handles with electric poppers and a 2 speed electric windshield wiper motor. To top off the interior are bucket seats from a mid 60's Chevy covered in black leather and Ostrich skin. Also, a brand new under dash AC and heat unit has been installed and works great.
The truck sports a aluminum tread plate bed. It is hinged toward the rear and hides the 20 gallon gas tank which has been relocated from the cab for safety and to eliminate the gas odor in the truck. Dual electric fuel pumps make sure the engine is fed properly. The battery has been relocated from under the hood to dress up the engine bay. The brake booster is located under the cab. Hidden hinges are located inside the bed on the tailgate. The original chain support system was left in place. The rear bumper is from a El Camino.
The truck rides on Ridler polished wheels and Michelin Pilot tires. Both are brand new.
Finally, this truck has been finished with PPG Hot Rod Black enamel paint. The original hood and front fender emblems were removed and replaced with a Bel-Air hood emblem. This goes well with the matte finish of the paint. There is just enough chrome to give the exterior a little pop.
I have described this truck to the best of my ability. This truck is 54 years old and does not come with a warranty. I strongly suggest you inspect the truck prior to bidding. I will make the truck available for inspection by you or your representative during the auction.
I do not provide shipping for this truck. However, I will gladly work with the carrier of your choice in getting the truck loaded for delivery to you. My zip code is 29072 if you would like to secure shipping quotes. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the purchaser.
I reserve the right to end this auction early as this truck is also for sale locally.

Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015
Tue, Feb 11 2014Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.
Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war
Sun, 30 Dec 2012A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?
2014 Chevy Silverado priced from *$24,585, V8 gets better economy than Ford EcoBoost V6
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Chevrolet has thrown down the next hand in the pickup truck poker wars and revealed at least a couple of potential aces - depending on which numbers matter most to you. The 2014 2014 Silverado 1500 with its 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 gets 335 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, is mated to a six-speed automatic, can tow 11,500 pounds with the optional Max Trailer Package and costs the same as the outgoing Silverado, $24,585 (*including $995 destination fee). Chevy says the Silverado also stands atop the fuel economy charts when comparing any competitor with a V8 engine - and some competitors with V6 engines. The two-wheel drive model returns 16 miles per gallon city, 23 mpg highway, 19 mpg combined in two-wheel drive guise and 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined as a four-wheel drive.
For context around those numbers, the most fuel efficient V8-powered 2013 Ford F-150 pickups lose about two mpg in every metric compared to the Silverado, the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost returning 16 city, 18 highway and 22 combined in two-wheel drive. However, that EcoBoost does have 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. You can get a Ram 1500 with a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 25 mpg highway, but it has 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The 2013 Ram with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and its 395 hp and 407 lb-ft drops one mpg in every category to the Silverado. Its tow rating is 200 pounds beyond its nearest competitor, the F-150 with the Max Trailer Tow Package.
Elsewhere, the new Silverado gets a quieter cab with a redesigned interior, a new bed with improved load-management possibilities, disc brakes all around, tweaked steering and suspension, along with free standard scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles.
