Up for sale here I have a rare first year factory built 4 wheel drive 1957 Chevrolet Napco 3100 big window truck.  The truck was built in the Willow Run, Michigan plant which is where a majority of the Napco trucks were built.  It has a clear ks title in my name that matches the body and frame vin.  It has a 235 and a 4 speed manual transmission which was the only way you could get a factory built 4wd Chevy in 57.  The truck has all its original 4wd parts other than the warn locking hubs were swapped out for new powertrain products hubs at some point.  The truck sits just under 7 feet tall.  The truck is very solid all around but it has had the rockers replaced and the were installed incorrectly over the top of the step instead of under it.  The passenger side lower fender looks to have been replaced as well and it doesn't fit that well I haven't tried to adjust it.  There also appears to be some work done over the headlights where most of these trucks rust.  The cab corners look nice.  The doors appear to be nice and solid and open and close like they should.  The steps and floor are very solid with just a few minor pinholes in them.  There's no rust in the roof or window channels of the truck.  The bed and tailgate are straight and solid but someone removed the wood and metal strips.  The rear fenders have very minimal rust and some dings in the but are definitely usable.  The front and rear bumpers are straight and usable.  The rear bumper is a Redi Fit bumper that wraps around to the rear fenders and the parts truck has a Redi Fit bumper that stops short of the rear fenders so its your preference.  The chrome grill has some dings in it and would need redone.  The truck has 15" truck rallyes on it with one missing trim ring.  The windshield is missing but the tinted big back glass is there and looks pretty good with no blistering or chips.  Theres some door glass and vent glass thats in one piece but it is old and weathered and should be replaced.  The 235 is disassembled but looks good and complete.  The 4 speed shifts through the gears and has a new clutch in it.  The transfer case also shifts properly.  Theres some extra chrome door glass frames and alot of other loose parts.  The truck is missing the seat, the gauges, the 3100 fender emblems, the headlight bezels, and the drivers side exterior door handle but the parts truck has all those parts.  If you don't want the parts truck to save on transport costs I'll remove whatever parts you want me to and put them with the Napco.  The parts truck is also a 57 Chevy 3100 but its a 2wd and it doesn't have a title or an engine.  I can probably get a clear title for it if thats important to you but I haven't done it because I didn't feel the truck was a good builder due to the rust in headliner, windshield and back glass area.  This truck has all the typical rust that this model truck gets from the cab forward but the bed and everything attached to it look really good.  This auction is for both trucks with all the parts that I have for them and I'm selling them with no reserve.  Early Napco trucks restored properly bring $45-$50k when done properly.  If you need a shipping quote contact Ryan @ ASAP Transport 913-201-0133.  Full payment within 7 days and a $500 deposit due through paypal within 48 hours.  Thanks and good luck bidding.

I have a piece of plywood cut for the bed of the Napco so parts can be loaded in it and the parts truck will have tires that hold air for transport.  I also didn't mention that I live within an hour of 3 major Chevy truck restoration parts suppliers (Jim Carter Classic truck parts, classic parts and LMC truck) so if a buyer wanted me to pick up parts for them and send them with the truck to save on shipping I can do that.  I also get a 10% discount at LMC truck plus no sales tax with my account there.

Only reason for selling is to fund my dream car 1967 GTX build.

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Chevrolet Sprint Plus

Fri, Jun 16 2023

General Motors sold second- and third-generation Suzuki Cultuses with Geo or Chevrolet Metro badging in the United States from 1989 through 2001 model years, and we've all seen plenty of those cars on the street over the years. The first-generation Cultus was sold here as well, with Chevrolet Sprint badges, and I've found a rare example of the Sprint five-door hatchback in a Northern California car graveyard. The Chevy Sprint first appeared on the West Coast as a 1985 model, then became available everywhere in the United States for the 1986 through 1988 model years (in Canada, it was sold as the Pontiac Firefly). It was available here as a hatchback with three or five doors; for 1986 only, the five-door was badged as the Sprint Plus. Soon enough, The General would be selling many more Asian-built cars with Detroit badges here. Isuzu I-Marks were sold as Chevrolet/Geo Spectrums starting in the 1986 model year, while Daewoo provided the Pontiac LeMans two years later. Under the hood, a 1.0-liter three-cylinder rated at 48 horsepower. The five-door Sprint cost $5,580 in 1986, which was $200 more than the three-door (those prices would be $15,445 and $14,891 in 2023 dollars). I've documented seven discarded Sprints prior to this one (including an extremely rare Turbo Sprint), and all of them were three-doors; we can assume that price was the most important factor for Sprint buyers. Gasoline prices were crashing hard during the middle 1980s, but memories of gas lines and odd-even-day fuel rationing from 1979 remained strong. What cars competed with the '86 Sprint on sticker price? Well, there was no way to undercut the hilariously affordable (and terrible) Yugo GV, which cost $3,990. The much bigger (but still pretty bad) Hyundai Excel listed at $4,995, while Toyota would sell you a sturdy (but zero-fun) Tercel starting at $5,448. Even the wretched Chevy Chevette — yes, it was still available in 1986 — cost $5,645. The original buyer of this car was willing to shell out an extra $395 to get an automatic instead of the base five-speed manual. That's about $1,093 in today's money. This car must have been slow. By the end, the doors were held shut with duct tape, but it still stayed alive until age 37. 53 miles per gallon on the highway! It does everything. The camels of the highway.

GM warning 800,000 owners that their cars may need oil changes more frequently than they say

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

The days of changing your engine oil every 3,000 miles are long gone thanks to most cars having automatic oil monitoring systems, but about 800,000 General Motors vehicles apparently have incorrect monitoring software that is leading to premature engine component wear. According to Autoweek, certain 2010-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models equipped with 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines could be going too long in between oil changes resulting in a higher-than-normal number of warranty claims for the engine's balance chain. The balance chain links the balance shaft to the crankshaft, and a worn one can produce higher noise levels.
As a fix, GM dealers will be reprogramming the software for the monitors in an effort to reduce the interval between oil changes, which varies based on driving habits and conditions. Through February 2015, the software update will be done at no cost to vehicle owners, but since this is not a recall, after that point, it will be up to the discretion of dealers as to whether or not they will charge for the service. What isn't immediately clear is whether GM plans on giving assistance to out-of-warranty customers who are experiencing engine issues from the worn chain.

Chevrolet SS previewed by Holden VF Commodore SS V show car

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

It won't be long before we see the official, production-ready Chevrolet SS sedan (hint: it will be revealed this weekend). And to tide us over until all of the official details are released about the US-spec version, we have this: the Holden VF Commodore SS V show car, a performance-oriented brother to the Calais V that debuted earlier in the week.
What we really want to know about the SS V is what lies underhood, but General Motors' Australian arm is keeping that under wraps until the Chevy model breaks cover this weekend. Nevertheless, it's obvious that the SS V will be a serious performer, with all sorts of aggressive cues driving that home on the car's exterior. Take a look at those 20-inch billet aluminum wheels that hide big Brembo brake calipers up front, the sculpted hood and front fascia, the wide air intakes with LED running lights and the quad exhaust pipes out back. It's like the Pontiac G8 GXP never even left us.
Inside, there's a sporty-looking interior with aluminum accents that mix in with black leather and suede surfaces, all tied together in the middle with an eight-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system. It looks great, and again, while we don't know anything regarding powertrain details, it makes us oh-so happy to see a manual shifter smack dab in the middle of the center console.
