YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 1955 CHEVY PICKUP.  THE MODEL IS A 3100 AND IS A 2ND SERIES MODEL WITH SMALL BACK WINDOW.  I BOUGHT THE TRUCK 2 1/2 YEARS AGO TO HAVE A TRUCK TO HAUL MATERIALS FOR A BARN I WAS WORKING ON.  THE BARN AND PROJECTS ARE COMPLETE AND I RELUCTANTLY OFFER THE TRUCK FOR SALE.  I WAS A MECHANIC, NOT A BODY MAN, AND I THOUGHT I COULD BUY THE TRUCK AS IS AND HAVE SOME FUN AND RUN THE TRUCK AS IT WAS.  THE TRUCK WAS IN A COUPLE SHADES OF GRAY PRIMER WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND IT WAS RUNNING ON 5 CYLINDERS.  THE FELLOW I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM WAS USING THE TRUCK TO HAUL MATERIALS FOR A GARAGE HE WAS BUILDING.  THE ENGINE RAN TERRIBLE WITH A BURNT VALVE SO I PULLED THE HEAD AND HAD IT REBUILT.  NEW VALVES AND INSERTS WERE INSTALLED TO ALLOW ENGINE TO RUN ON UNLEADED FUEL.  I PUT THE HEAD BACK ON BUT NOW THE ENGINE SMOKED.  I PULLED THE ENGINE AND HAD THE BOTTOM END REBUILT.  THE COMPLETE OVERHAULED INCLUDED TURNING THE CRANKSHAFT AND REPLACING THE CAMSHAFT AND ALL LIFTERS.  THIS ENGINE HAS SOLID LIFTERS.  THE ENGINE NOW RUNS GREAT AND IS VERY DEPENDABLE.  THE TRANSMISSION WAS RESEALED AS WELL AND THE REAR END.  THE BRAKES HAD BEEN DONE BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER BUT I REPLACED THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES AND CLEANED UP ALL THE LINKAGES.  THE STEERING BOX WAS RESEALED AND ALL ENGINE COMPARTMENT LINKAGES CLEANED UP AND LUBRICATED FOR PROPER OPERATION.  THE TRUCK WAS ORIGINALLY DARK GREEN SO I HAD THE FIREWALL PAINTED BEFORE I INSTALLED THE ENGINE.  ALL OF THE FELT SEALS FOR THE THROTTLE, SHIFTER AND SUCH WERE REPLACED WHILE THE ENGINE WAS OUT..  I DID REPLACE THE BATTERY TRAY AND BRACKETS AS THEY WERE IN POOR CONDITION.  THE FELLOW TOLD ME NOT TO BRING A MAGNET WHEN I LOOKED AT THE TRUCK AND I WILL TELL YOU THE SAME.  THIS WAS AN OLD WORK TRUCK SOMEWHERE.  THERE IS BODY PUTTY IN THE FENDERS, DOORS AND LOWER CORNERS OF THE CAB.  THE TAILGATE WAS MISSING WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND THE FRONT OF THE BED WAS ALL BENT UP AND SIDE STEPS OF THE BED WERE IN VERY POOR CONDITION.  I REPLACED THE BED FRONT, SIDE STEPS AND BRACKETS AND INSTALLED A TAILGATE.  I PAINTED THE REST OF THE TRUCK SEMIGLOSS BLACK TO KIND OF MATCH THE NEW PARTS.  A LATER MODEL SEAT HAD BEEN INSTALLED IN THE TRUCK.  I LOCATED AN ORIGINAL SEAT FRAME AND HAD IT RESTORED AND RECOVERED TO LOOK AS ORIGINAL.  THE SEAT ADJUST PROPERLY AND IS VERY COMFORTABLE.  WHEN THE SEAT WAS OUT I TOOK EVERYTHING OUT OF THE DASH AND PAINTED THE INTERIOR WHITE WITH BLACK FLOOR.  THE SPEEDOMETER DID NOT WORK WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK SO I PICKED UP A USED DASH AT HERSHEY A COUPLE YEARS AGO.  IT NOW SHOWS 3,929 MILES BUT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE ORIGINAL MILES ARE.  THE DASH HAD  BEEN CUT OUT FOR A LATER MODEL RADIO SO I INSTALLED A BEZEL AND AN AM/FM CD PLAYER.  THE 2 SPEAKERS ARE LOCATED ON BRACKETS UP UNDER THE DASH.  I WANTED TO KEEP THE INTERIOR ORIGINAL LOOKING OTHER THAN THE RADIO.  THE KNOB TO THE RIGHT OF THE RADIO IS THE HEATER BLOWER MOTOR CONTROL.   I ADDED THE STANDARD HEATER AND INSTALLED A NEW BLOWER MOTOR IN THE HEATER.  THE INTERIOR FINISHED OUT NICE WITH NEW RUBBER MAT AND BLACK HEADLINER.  THE BED HAD A PIECE OF 1/2 PLYWOOD THAT WAS IN POOR CONDITION.  I HAD SOME OLD PINE FLOORBOARDS AND INSTALLED THEM FOR A GOOD SOLID FLOOR.   I ADDED THE AFTERMARKET TURN SIGNALS AND REPLACED THE TAIL LIGHTS AND FRONT TURN SIGNAL/PARKING LIGHTS FOR SINGLE LIGHT OPERATION OF THE TURN SIGNALS.  THE TRUCK HAS NEVER HAD SEAT BELTS.  I REPLACED THE RIGHT DOOR WINDOW AS IT WAS CRACKED.  THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND IS NICE AND CLEAR.  THE LEFT DOOR WINDOWS AND RIGHT VENT WINDOWS SHOW THEIR AGE WITH BUBBLES IN THE SAFETY GLASS.  THE CHANNELS AND RUBBER FOR THE VENTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED.  I PAINTED THE RIMS RED RUSTOLEUM JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE A DEPENDABLE RAT ROD LOOKING 55 CHEVY PICK UP OR A GREAT TRUCK TO FINISH FOR SHOW, THIS IS A GREAT CANDIDATE.  I'VE TRIED TO TAKE PICTURES TO SHOW THE TRUE CONDITION OF THE BODY.  I HAD PLANNED TO REPLACE THE FRONT AND REAR FENDERS, PROBABLY THE DOORS AND MAYBE THE BED SIDES IF I WAS GOING TO GET THE TRUCK READY TO SHOW.  MY LOSS CAN BE YOUR GAIN.  I HAVE WHAT I THINK IS A VERY FAIR RESERVE (A FRACTION OF MY INVESTMENT).  PLEASE ASK ANY QUESTIONS.  THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.

The Corvette Museum sinkhole has been filled

Wed, Feb 11 2015

After swallowing eight of the most prized pieces of the collection from the National Corvette Museum, the massive sinkhole from a year ago is rapidly becoming nothing but a bad memory. Based on the museum's weekly construction update, you can barely see the remnants of the 25-foot deep hole once in the floor. The Corvette Museum's Skydome was not always going to look like this. The original hope was to keep the sinkhole there as a tourist attraction. That plan eventually fell through, though, and instead it was decided five of the less-damaged Corvettes would remain unrestored. Progress has been moving fast to get the repairs done. Even a month ago, the hole was still very visible, and the construction company used remote-controlled Bobcat loaders to fill it in. Now, the museum has launched a contest to guess how many tons of stone it took to fill in the massive crater. The winner gets a print of the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil being lifted out. GM offering factory-backed extended warranty for Chevys, GMCs, Buicks and Cadillacs

Mon, Oct 15 2018

Cars are generally more reliable than ever before. When things do go wrong, every automaker offers some form of factory warranty (in most cases at least three years and 36,000 miles, though many extend even longer), providing peace of mind to new-car buyers that many faults will be fixed at no charge to the customer. Starting today, GM is offering a new optional plan that will extend the factory warranty on all new Chevy, GMC, Buick and Cadillac products. In the past, extended warranties have been offered as dealer add-ons, with all profits from these sales going to the dealership. GM's new program can be viewed as another nail in the the looming dealership-model coffin. According to Automotive News, some dealers aren't happy to see GM cut into their business like this, saying that it helps GM far more than it does dealers. GM says the new program will help keep customers in the GM family. Customers are also more likely to visit a GM service center rather than going to an independent repair shop. Currently, new Chevy and GMC vehicles come with three-year/36,000-mile warranties. Buicks and Cadillacs are covered for 4 years or 50,000 miles. The new program extends Chevy and GMC warranties to five years or 60,000 miles. Buick and Cadillac warranties extend to six years or 70,000 miles. GM, citing IHS Markit, says most owners keep new cars for about 6.8 years, so these warranties will cover most of the length of their ownership. The extended warranty will add between $1,000 and $2,000 to the price of a vehicle, and the additional cost can be rolled into the vehicle's purchase or lease price. Unlike many dealer extensions, the factory program covers the vehicle no matter who owns it. That should help increase the car's resale value if it's sold within the covered timeframe. GM says there's no deductible and no need to file a claim form when getting warranty repairs. Additionally, dealerships can continue to sell their own extended warranties or service contracts.
