1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup Truck Stepside W/ Factory V8 Option & Big Back Window on 2040-cars
Portland, Oregon, United States
If you have been waiting for that perfect 1950's half ton Chevy truck project here it is. Up for auction is a very rare 1955 Chevrolet 3100 half ton Pickup Truck (Second Series). This truck has the rare Factory V8 Option & BIG BACK WINDOW deluxe cab options. The "V" emblems on the fenders denote this as a factory v8 truck. That and the fact the vin number shows it on the truck as well. It was built at Chevrolet's Oakland, California assembly plant and has been a West Coast only truck it's whole life. We do not salt the roads in the winters on the West Coast so our vehicles are always less rusty than antique cars from other parts of the USA that do salt the roads. This is the body style known as the 'Task Force" series. This particular truck has the short Stepside bed. This deluxe cab also came from the factory with the optional green tinted window glass. But the only glass still in great condition (fortunately) is the big back window and it is flawless. This truck has all the polished factory stainless window trim and stainless cab trim you see in the pictures. Rust in the usual places for an unrestored 49 year old vehicle. Cab corners are rusted, rust in bottom of doors, several small holes in floor, etc. Patch panels are available here on eBay and elsewhere to correct these items. The factory 265 v8 and manual transmission are missing in action but I have installed a used 1960's era 327 two barrel engine to replace the stock engine with. There is no carb on the engine. For now the engine is mounted at the front using the stock Chevrolet factory installed v8 mounts that this truck came with. There is no transmission or transmission mount currently in the vehicle. That is why the engine is tilted in the engine compartment. It is perfectly safe for towing or transport as it is currently mounted. Bone stock radiator in very nice condition. The inner fender panels are in perfect undamaged condition and they have never been chopped up or modified for headers. The stock six lug rearend has been swapped for a 1970 Camaro 10 bolt rearend with 5 lugs. The stock six lug front brake drums were replaced with regular 5 lug Chevrolet car drums. The stock front axle is still in place. ***PLEASE NOTE: The mag on the left rear of truck was used to move truck around. It is not included in this sale, you will receive a black steel wheel for transport just like the other three wheels on the truck in the pictures. But please look to see that the mag is a 15" x 8" mag wheel and look how nice that size mag and tire fits within the fender with the use of the stock Camaro width rearend . **** The stock seat is there but will need recovered. The right (passenger) front fender has a dent and is not worth fixing but I am including with this auction a dent free 1957 pickup passenger fender to replace it with. The fender emblems sit higher on a 1957, those holes would just be welded in and new holes drilled for the 1955 fender emblem and v8 emblem. There are, of course, numerous smaller dents throughout on truck because, as mentioned before, this is an unrestored vehicle. Stock gauges. The radio slot was modified for an 8 track player back in the day. Stock steering wheel, horn button and steering column. This vehicle steers so it can be loaded but it currently has NO operational brakes. This truck needs TOTAL RESTORATION before it will be roadworthy. I have loaded 24 pictures (the maximum number of pictures allowed by eBay) so that you can honestly and fairly evaluate the condition of what is being auctioned here. What you see is what you get. Vin plate is undamaged, unmolested and still attached in stock pillar location. This truck comes with a CLEAR Washington state title. It is NOT a salvage or reconstructed title. If you have any questions feel free to email me at any time before the auction ends. $500 non-refundable deposit required within 48 hours of auction's close. Balance must be paid within 7 days of auction's close . I can store for 30 days after the end of auction for free. Shipping details and payment for shipping must be worked out by the winning bidder but we will assist with loading of the vehicle. Thank you and good luck on the auction. ****PLEASE NOTE: I HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS (brand new in factory sealed boxes, receipts still attached to the boxes) PERFORMANCE ONLINE WAREHOUSE 12 inch (oversize) heavy duty front disc brake conversion kit that includes 5 lug vented and cross drilled brake disc, calipers, pads, mounting brackets, new wheel bearings / races and stainless braided brake lines for mounting to stock 1955-1959 Chevrolet pickup truck front axle. I also have (new in the unopened factory sealed box) a complete PERFORMANCE ONLINE WAREHOUSE one inch diameter front sway bar kit specifically made for this year and model truck for mounting to the stock front axle of a 1955-1959 Chevrolet pickup truck for better handling in corners and a pair of PERFORMANCE ONLINE WAREHOUSE front gas BILSTEIN shocks (still in factory sealed boxes with receipt attached). THESE ITEMS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE WINNING PRICE OF THIS RESERVE AUCTION BUT I WILL SELL (at extra cost) TO THE WINNING BIDDER AT 25% OFF THE PRICE I PAID FOR THESE ITEMS. Otherwise I will sell the parts at another time on eBay in their own separate auctions. Winning bidder does NOT have to buy these items to complete this vehicle sale, it is merely an option being offered to the winning buyer . ***

5 reasons why GM is cutting jobs, closing plants in a healthy economy
Tue, Nov 27 2018DETROIT — Even though unemployment is low, the economy is growing and U.S. auto sales are near historic highs, General Motors is cutting thousands of jobs in a major restructuring aimed at generating cash to spend on innovation. It's the new reality for automakers that are faced with the present cost of designing gas-powered cars and trucks that appeal to buyers now while at the same time preparing for a future world of electric and autonomous vehicles. GM announced Monday that it will cut as many as 14,000 workers in North America and put five plants up for possible closure as it abandons many of its car models and restructures to focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles. The reductions could amount to as much as 8 percent of GM's global workforce of 180,000 employees. The cuts mark GM's first major downsizing since shedding thousands of jobs in the Great Recession. The company also said it will stop operating two additional factories outside North America by the end of next year. The move to make GM get leaner before the next downturn likely will be followed by Ford Motor Co., which also has struggled to keep one foot in the present and another in an ambiguous future of new mobility. Ford has been slower to react, but says it will lay off an unspecified number of white-collar workers as it exits much of the car market in favor of trucks and SUVs, some of them powered by batteries. Here's a rundown of the reasons behind the cuts: Coding, not combustion CEO Mary Barra said as cars and trucks become more complex, GM will need more computer coders but fewer engineers who work on internal combustion engines. "The vehicle has become much more software-oriented" with millions of lines of code, she said. "We still need many technical resources in the company." Shedding sedans The restructuring also reflects changing North American auto markets as manufacturers continue to shift away from cars toward SUVs and trucks. In October, almost 65 percent of new vehicles sold in the U.S. were trucks or SUVs. That figure was about 50 percent cars just five years ago. GM is shedding cars largely because it doesn't make money on them, Citi analyst Itay Michaeli wrote in a note to investors. "We estimate sedans operate at a significant loss, hence the need for classic restructuring," he wrote. The reduction includes about 8,000 white-collar employees, or 15 percent of GM's North American white-collar workforce. Some will take buyouts while others will be laid off.
eBay Find of the Day: 1990 Chevy 1500 454 SS with just 7 miles
Sun, Jan 4 2015When trawling the classifieds either on a buying mission or merely a time-wasting mission, we spend a lot of time poring over photographs comparing the seller's idea of "Like New!" with our idea of it. It's hard to argue with seven original miles on the odometer, though, which is what this 1990 Chevrolet 1500 454 SS has. It's being sold by Country Chevrolet on eBay, the same dealer who sold the truck to its one and only owner 25 years ago. The purchaser bought two of them and left this one in a garage under a car cover, said garage being less than seven miles away from the showroom floor. Better yet, you can buy with confidence because the seller "has collected all records," which we expect would be the slimmest manilla folder in the history of receipt-keeping. For those unfamiliar, the 454 SS was a half-ton, regular cab, 2WD pickup powered by a 454 cubic inch (7.4-liter) V8 with 230 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque shifting through a three-speed transmission. This was at the same time the Chevrolet Corvette used a 5.7-liter V8 producing 250 hp and 350 lb-ft. The pickup rode on exclusive wheels and only came in black with red cloth inside. The only extra-cost option on this example is an $18 locking fuel filler cap, which, according to the 454ss forum, means it should have cost about $18,460 out the door, the equivalent of about $34,000 today. At the time of writing there are zero bids, but proceedings open at $45,000 and Country Chevrolet wants $49,000 if you have to have your time capsule right now.
First-edition Detroit muscle raises millions for charity at Barrett-Jackson
Mon, Jan 19 2015Amidst all the classic metal crossing the auction block each year in Scottsdale, AZ, Detroit automakers have a tradition of donating the first examples of their most enticing new muscle cars, with the proceeds of their sales going towards worthwhile charities. This year, Barrett-Jackson handled three noteworthy examples. The highest price among them was the first Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang with the VIN #001, which raised $1 million for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. General Motors donated the first new Chevy Corvette Z06 Convertible, the first retail example of the droptop supercar garnering $800,000 for the United Way. Along with the Z06, GM also donated the first new 2016 Cadillac CTS-V sedan, which brought in $170,000 for Detroit's College for Creative Studies. Although these were the headline Motown muscle machines furnished by the automakers themselves, they weren't the only vehicles auctioned off for worthy causes. A 1950 GM Futurliner bus donated by collector Ron Pratte led the charge when it brought in $4.65 million for the Armed Forces Foundation. Other lots included a custom Jeep Wrangler donated by SEMA ($85k), a new M5 donated by BMW ($800k), a '79 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst ($140k), '39 Cadillac LaSalle C-Hawk ($410k), Jeff Gordon's 1999 NASCAR-spec Chevy Monte Carlo ($500k) and a Victory Cross Country 8-Ball motorcycle ($180k). All told, the charity lots raised over $8.7 million for local and national charities.
