Up for sale is my 1951 Chevrolet Pickup, 3100 half ton, with small block Chevrolet coupled to a 4 speed manual transmission with air conditioning that works! Runs and drives absolutely fantastically!! It is a really fun truck to drive! Must see the video to see how well it drives in all 4 speeds. Mustang 2 front end with disc brakes and rack and pinion steering. No understeer or oversteer. Car drives straight going down the road at 60 mph! Brakes stop the car on a dime and pull "straight". Transmission shifts well in all 4 forward gears (as well as reverse) and quickly gets up to highway speeds. All synchros are excellent, clutch is excellent with no clutch chatter nor anything of the sort.  Excellent oil pressure running at 40-60 lbs the whole time, Starts with a quick turn of the ignition switch everytime, runs cool, does not overheat, headers with very mild exhaust mufflers, can be driven all day with no problems. 12 Volt conversion, truck charges well and holds a charge as seen by the amp gauge. Oil pressure, gas gauge, amp meter, speedometer, tach all work, radio works nicely. Low and high beam headlights, turn signals, running lights, reverse lights, dash lights all work. Horn and wipers currently not working. Boxed frame up front with coilovers, well done installation as shown by the quality of drive, mechanically excellent, very strong. No strange noises, no rattles, just a very strong mechanical truck where all of the hard work has been done and done correctly. These are modifications which were done some time ago and have been proven to be correctly done over time by the way the truck continues to drive so well and so straight. You are more than welcome to come and drive it and see for yourself. We have placed a video here so that you can see how it runs through the gears going down the road at highway speeds. The air conditioning works and blows cold air inside the cabin of the truck. Tires are near new and have full tread. Wheels are fresh with new hubcaps.

The truck was restored some  years ago and now it is beginning to show some age on the previous restoration. You can see by the pictures that the truck sat outside after it was restored and has some rust peaking through the older paint job. I have crawled all over it and the floors are excellent, super solid. Looks as though cab corners were fixed with metal and these are solid as well. Doors close perfectly and gaps on the doors and hood are excellent when closed. Doors close well and hit the latch well. There is no door sag and the truck never appears to have been in an accident. What needs to be done are cosmetics. This includes the wood for the bed and a repaint of the truck. The doors are incredibly straight, door bottoms look good and the truck will not require a lot of dent repair. As you look down the side of the body, it is very straight in its reflection. The bed panels are very straight and will require little if any body work. Chrome is presentable, with some fading on the upper two chrome bars of the grill. Bumpers look good. If you currently look online you will see nicely done examples in the $25000 to $30000 range. This truck is not that far away from that. I like the fact that it is a 4 speed manual transmission and that the truck retains its original steering column and steering wheel. I have seen some modified trucks where late model additions were not tastefully done. This preserves the "original" feel of the truck while having late model running gear and air conditioning. It is a super fun truck to drive!

GM recalls 83,572 SUVs for ignition switch issue

Sun, Jan 4 2015

General Motors is recalling 83,572 SUVs from the 2011 and 2012 model years over a potential ignition lock actuator issue. In affected vehicles, the actuator isn't the right size, which could cause the ignition to get stuck in the "Start" position, and then either due to a jarring event or a "cool interior temperature" the ignition could switch back to the "Accessory" position. Doing so would cause a loss of power assistance and the airbags might not deploy. This is a different ignition issue than the one that's been ongoing for the past year. GM said it expects that less than 500 vehicles suffer from the problem, but that the pool could include vehicles from 2007 through to 2014 that have already been fixed, but with defective parts. The 2011-2012 SUVs included in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notice: Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra LD, Sierra HD, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. GM will notify owners and dealers will inspect the ignition lock housing to see if it needs a free replacement. RECALL Subject : Ignition Lock Actuator may Bind Report Receipt Date: DEC 30, 2014 NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V827000 Component(s): ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado HD, Silverado LD, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra LD, Sierra HD, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the ignition lock actuator may bind, making turning the key difficult or causing the ignition to get stuck in the "Start" position. CONSEQUENCE: If stuck in the "Start" position, the ignition may suddenly snap back into the "Accessory" position, causing a loss of engine, steering, and braking power, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. If the vehicle is in a crash, the air bags may not deploy, increasing the risk of occupant injury. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the ignition lock housing, as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-458-8006 (Cadillac), 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14696 for the original equipment, and 14912 for the service replacement parts.

GM adds 1,200 jobs at Detroit-Hamtramck plant

Thu, Oct 22 2015

General Motors is making a big move at its Hamtramck, MI, factory, announcing it will add a second shift and hire over 1,200 workers within the next several months. It's expected that by early 2016, the factory will employ over 2,800 workers to build the Chevrolet Volt, Impala, Malibu, Cadillac ELR, and by early next year, the new CT6. According to GM Hamtramck spokesperson Courtney Zemke, 40 of the 1,200 positions are for salaried employees, while the remainder will be hourly positions. As for where these employees will go, positions are being made available across the factory, so GM isn't focusing on any particular area for its new hires. It's a similar story behind the hiring surge itself. GM said in its press release that the "second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand," a position Zemke reiterated. It's a matter of demand across the plant's portfolio, rather than any one particular product seriously outstripping supply. Naturally, the United Auto Workers is happy with the move. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest said in the attached release. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." Hiring is going on now, with the second shift slated to get underway in early 2016. GM's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly to Add Second Shift and More Than 1,200 Jobs Plant will nearly double its workforce by early 2016 2015-10-22 DETROIT – General Motors is nearly doubling its workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly by adding a second shift and more than 1,200 hourly and salaried jobs. The addition of a second shift will increase the plant's workforce to approximately 2,800 people when hiring is completed. The second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand for the five cars produced at Detroit-Hamtramck. "This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Detroit-Hamtramck produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers," said Plant Manager Gary West. Second shift hiring is underway, and the shift is scheduled to begin operations in early 2016. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," said UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." The 4.1 million-square-foot Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly opened in 1985. GM has invested $1 billion in the plant over the last six years, making it one of the company's most-agile manufacturing facilities in North America.

Corvette Stolen In Detroit Returned To Owner After 33 Years

Wed, Jun 25 2014

A Detroit man had his stolen Corvette returned 33 years after it disappeared while parked on one of Detroit's main drags, according to ABC 7. The last time George Talley saw his 1979 Corvette was on a July day in 1981, when it disappeared from its parking spot on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. He had given up hope of ever seeing his car again, until a phone call from AAA brought his sporty ride home. Authorities had come across a Corvette with a questionable VIN in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. When they ran the number Talley's stolen car report came up. The car is still in pretty good shape and only has 47,000 miles on the odometer. Talley wasn't sure how he could get the car back home, but General Motors stepped in and agreed to cover the cost of bringing the 'Vette home. Talley has always had a passion for Detroit-made muscle cars. "I've always liked Corvettes. It was attractive. The ladies like 'em," Talley told ABC 7.
