Just a good, solid, well-maintained, great running, stock, complete and nearly original 1950 Chevrolet 3800 one ton pickup truck with the rare factory 9 foot step side bed instead of the usual flat bed. For years this truck was used on a farm in south-central Utah. The farmer who owned it was a stickler for mechanical upkeep. After years of use he parked it under cover in his barn. When he got cancer he decided to simplify his life and sell off stuff. With some fresh fuel and a charged battery, she started right up and was driven out of the barn.

It's biggest strength is clearly in how well she runs. The 216CID Stovebolt 6 runs extremely well, the four speed transmission shifts great, and the upgraded rear differential (Dana 60 I believe) really enhances the driveability due to it's numerically lower gear ratio and larger brakes. Battery is new and carb has recently been rebuilt. She starts, idles, accelerates, shifts, turns, brakes and stops very well. I drive it on the freeway in the slow lane and am able to cruise at 50+MPH even with it's old tires. Other then a 12 volt alternator swap, electric fuel pump, and heavy duty rear axle, this baby is just as it left the factory in 1950.

The interior is all there with no cutting or butchery of any kind. The only parts missing are the cardboard door panels and cardboard headliner. They typically come apart after a few years and are removed. No worries though, they are readily available in the aftermarket. Most gauges work and speedometer works even though needle is broken (see pics). All the trim is in place and in decent shape. It's only flaw is typical, easily repairable floor board rust (see pics).

The exterior in particular has aged very well. Rust is limited to typical places in the cab corners and is easily repairable if you want; it's certainly not essential. All the panels are straight. Under or behind the farm quality paint I can't find any signs of body work or accident history anywhere. Glass is decent other than a typical farm quality fix of Plexiglas instead of window glass; not a problem as all glass is flat with no curvature. Wood in the bed looks like it has held up well because of the protective rubber floor insert. Plus, look at that nifty, period correct ranch bumper on the rear.

This is just a great truck. You can enjoy it as is, fix it up while you drive or restore it. I'm an old truck guy pruning my collection and I rarely (and I mean rarely) come across one ton trucks with pickup beds. The vast majority have a much more common flat bed. That makes this one especially cool.

Recharge Wrap-up: Indianapolis to switch 425 fleet vehicles to EVs, Chevy Corvette provides bat habitats

Tue, Nov 4 2014

Indianapolis will deploy 425 battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles as part of its municipal fleet by 2016. The fleet will include such cars as the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and Ford Fusion Energi. The city will also reduce its overall fleet by 100 vehicles. In all, the revised group - called the "Freedom Fleet" - will save $8.7 million and 2.2 million gallons of gasoline over 10 years. Read more at Hybrid Cars. EVs with longer range would make vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid energy management systems more practical for the US. The idea of using EVs as energy storage for emergencies or times of high grid demand is currently being tested in Japan with Nissan's Leaf-to-Home system. The US is also interested in such capabilities, but the higher average energy use of American households would make larger batteries in EVs ideal for grid storage applications. The factory, when constructed, will have a capacity of producing batteries for 100,000 cars per year according to the Korean company. The plant will supply batteries for Chinese automakers such as SAIC and Qoros. Construction is expected to be finished by the end of 2015 and LG Chem expects revenue of more than $933 million by 2020. Read more in the press release below. General Motors is using adhesive used in the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to create habitat for threatened bat species. Artificial bat caves could help alleviate white-nose fungus that leads to diminished bat populations. Leftover adhesive is used to create stalactites in the artificial caves, allowing them more structure to hang from. GM has also provided Volt battery covers to create nesting habitats for bats, which eat harmful insects and help pollinate plants. See the videos and read more in the press release below. 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible is the track car for sun worshippers

Supercharged, 6.2-liter V8? Check. Seven-speed manual? Check. Obsession with weight? Check.
What did you expect when Chevrolet said it was bringing a new Corvette variant to the 2014 New York Auto Show? Maybe a sticker and trim package, like the C6 Corvette Grand Sport or a tie-in deal like the Black Widow car from Chicago? On the opposite end, maybe there was an even more hardcore Z06 waiting in the wings. Who knew?

First 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray spotted crashed in the wild

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

This restyled blue 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is wearing manufacturer plates, and it appears to be the same one seen around the internet in various pictures lately. This crash is likely not part of the Chevrolet testing regimen, however. Digital Corvettes forum member gpetry posted the shot with a note: "got this picture e-mailed from a friend in Arizona last week..." No circumstances are given, other than the incident occurred in the thick of a set of curvy roads, and the coupe ping-ponged off a guardrail and into the rock wall. Hopefully everyone involved in the incident walked away.
It may not be a pretty thing to see, a crashed sports car that's not even available for sale yet, but rest easy. Many pre-production cars are used for development and then unceremoniously crushed and scrapped, anyway. If that's the case here, that makes this wrecked 'Vette less of a tragedy and more of a case of exceptional efficiency.
