Chevy Camaro is a good sport, wishes Ford Mustang Happy 50th

Tue, 15 Apr 2014

It was 1966 when Chevrolet launched its challenger to the wildly successful Ford Mustang, the Camaro. While the competition between the two brands was already healthy, the arrival of the Camaro set off one of the most intense, model-to-model rivalries in the industry.
That competitive spirit hasn't stopped Chevy and the Camaro from wishing Ford's iconic muscle car a Happy 50th Birthday as the Ford's April 17 anniversary rolls around. These two cars have been linked over the years, and while the rivalry took a break for a few years in the 2000s, today's competition between the Camaro and Mustang is as fierce as it's ever been.
You might recall that this friendliness when it comes to major milestones isn't too rare. Ford put on quite a display for General Motors' hundredth anniversary back in 2008. As the Camaro's fiftieth birthday approaches in 2016, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Mustang sending its best wishes to its Bowtie rival.

GM, UAW poaching Nissan workers in Tennessee

Tue, Sep 8 2015

General Motors and the United Auto Workers are going on a recruitment drive at the Spring Hill factory in Tennessee, and they're hoping to poach some skilled workers from Nissan's nearby plant in Smyrna, TN. The General and the union even bought a billboard advertising for industrial electricians near the Japanese automaker's facility, according to the Daily News Journal. The reason for the billboard was simple. "GM was short of electricians," said Tim Stannard, the president of the UAW local at Spring Hill, to the Daily News Journal. The factory currently builds the Chevrolet Equinox but has a contract to assemble the next generation of Ecotec engines and the Cadillac XT5, which replaces the SRX. Thanks to the $185-million deal, employment there is expected to double by May 2016, according to Stannard, with roughly 1,800 additional union jobs. Beyond just several billboards, GM has job postings online for the Spring Hill plant looking for workers with specific skills. There has already been some interest in the positions among Nissan employees, Stannard indicated. According to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research, the average GM worker currently makes $58 an hour, including benefits. Comparatively, Nissan pays an average of $42 an hour with benefits. The General's number could change in the coming weeks because its contract with the UAW is about to expire, and higher wages are among the major negotiating points.

Our favorite mid-engine Corvette theories and rumors

Tue, Sep 13 2016

The mid-engine Corvette! We just saw blurry photos through the foliage, and are hearts are all aflutter because it means that this car is real. And it's the most " never before" Corvette since 1984. Which leads us to all kinds of wacky theories and speculation. Everybody knows something or heard from a guy. None of those guys (or gals) from GM are talking to Autoblog, to be clear. But that won't stop us from stirring the pot. Let's go over a few point-by-point. The pushrod engine will be replaced by an overhead-cam V8 Car and Driver has repeatedly reported that an overhead-cam engine will come after the mid-engine Corvette's debut with an old-school pushrod. We've heard the same thing firsthand, albeit from a source with no connection to the development of the Corvette or powertrain. "At some point two valves can't pass future emissions regulations," said the guy we know. While the pushrod engine is compact, the design makes it difficult - if not impossible - for sophisticated variable valve timing (and lift) systems that control combustion with more precision. Hasty conclusion: The pushrod engine has a finite life in front of it. This one's a lock, it's a just a matter of when. Bowling Green's new paint shop is really the mid-engine assembly line Credit to Reddit for this one. Like we said, everybody knows a guy. But let's look deeper. The new paint facility costs $439 million dollars and adds 450,000 square feet, almost half the size of the existing plant. Plus GM announced another $290 million in upgrades at Bowling Green Assembly. That sure sounds like a lot of money, but you can actually spend that much on a paint booth. Porsche spent 500 million Euros (about $561 million dollars) to add the Macan assembly to its Leipzig, Germany plant in 2014. Chrysler shelled out $850 million for a paint shop in Sterling Heights, Michigan. GM spent $600 million for a new paint shop at the Fairfax (Kansas City) plant. Honda, on the other hand, is working on a thrifty $210 million project in Marysville, Ohio that includes a 300,000 square foot expansion, and the low-volume Acura NSX facility only cost $70 million. Hasty conclusion: The square footage and cost could easily mean a new assembly line instead of (or in addition to) a paint line. And if the NSX plant was really that cheap, GM could have hidden a similar sum in its existing announcements.

DESCRIPTION
We are pleased to present this awesome 1949 Chevrolet 3500 Pickup. You would be hard pressed to have more fun in a truck than with this one. Inspired by the original Southern California Rat Fink Car Club, this Rat Rod Chevy offers all the looks and charm with modern performance and drivability. The all steel 1949 Chevy truck was built by SoCal Street Performance and features all steel Chevrolet body parts, no fiberglass parts in this truck!! Rat Rods or nostalgic built hot rods are leading the trend in customs now, and will continue to do so because they never get dated or obsolete. They are built to replicate a period of time when shiny paint and billet everything didn’t matter, but having fun with the car was the only goal!

The original 1949 Chevrolet truck drove great for 1949, but to drive one today the frame was modified to accept a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro front clip and suspension. This includes independent front control arms with coil springs and shocks. The power steering system was retained from the camaro as was the power disc brakes!! The engine is a 350ci V8 with Edelbrock RPM Performer aluminum intake, Holley performance carburetor with electric choke, high voltage ignition, chrome Edelbrock air cleaner, chrome Edelbrock valve covers, chrome exhaust shields and chrome alternator bracket. Everything is kept cool by an aluminum radiator with engine mounted flex fan and auxiliary electric fan for those really hot days. Dual exhaust exits the truck just before the rear tires on each side. The rear end is a GM 10-bolt with limited slip. The automatic transmission is a 3-speed GM unit and shifts smoothly. The truck rides on staggered Boss aluminum wheels with gunmetal centers and polished lips. The front wheels are 18’s the rears are 20’s, and with a 4” lower stance from original they really tuck under the truck nicely! The truck is street legal with turn signals, headlights, LED tail lights and brake lights.

The body is largely stock and very solid. It is finished in ultra durable Black Epoxy primer sealer with Von Dutch style pin striping. Easy to maintain and you don’t need to worry if you chip or scratch it. No chopped top or shaved panels here. The bumpers were deleted and the grill was painted body color for a slicker look. The bed features a custom raised design on the floor. The floor is covered in exterior vinyl and really sets the truck apart. Dual chrome side mirrors are period correct. Both side and rear windows are tinted glass. The interior is full custom, with Red vinyl, Tan Suede, and Alligator accents! The seats and door panels feature detailed sewed inlays and are plush to the touch. The seats are comfortable and the position is adjustable, and with a tilt steering column, even us larger drivers can drive comfortably. The seats feature a 60/40 slit with fold down center console. Chromed billet window cranks and interior door handles look fantastic as does the billet rearview mirror. Classic instruments gauges package keeps you well informed with speedometer, fuel level, engine temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The stereo system is great and features a JVC AM/FM/CD head unit in dash.

The truck is a fun ride with awesome looks. It received a fresh fluid service recently and is ready to go. All the gauges, radio, lights, brakes, engine, trans, and so on have been checked and all function as they should. Many Rat Rods are cobbled together and nothing works, this is not the case with this truck! It is ready to enjoy today with nothing else needed but a new owner! Please feel free to call us with any questions. International world wide transport is available and we are happy to assist in shipping your new truck if needed.
