Up for auction is a very well built custom 1939 Chevrolet Rat Rod. It is very reliable and runs great. I take my 3 year old son out in it and we have a great time going to car shows and showing up rides that cost tens of thousands more. Here is the run down.
the motor
It has a clean great running 307 v8 Chevrolet motor. I don't know how many miles are on the motor but the oil is clean and does not smoke or leak. the motor starts and runs great hot or cold. Tons of power for a very lite truck. Holly carb and a Weiand intake. fined valve covers and a classic louvered air filter give it a great look. the headers have baffles in them but don't let that fool you it is loud. It is kept cool with a very nice aluminum champion radiator.
the transmission
It is a turbo 350 Chevrolet transmission. I just serviced it and it is clean and shifts great. It is hooked up to a B&M ratcheting shifter that works perfect. It takes a little to get used to but after you do it is the only way to go on a vintage ride.
the frame
It is all stock in the front with the rear half grafted from a chevy s10 truck. drum brakes front and rear. manual brakes on a under floor reverse mounted master cylinder. aftermarket proporting valve The master cylinder leaks a tiny bit but stops the more you drive it. the steering column is stock so is the steering box. Everything is tight and rides good for a 70 year old technology. This truck was frame off rebuilt, the frame is clean and painted black. The bed is nice with new wood. The custom gas tank is professionally custom pinstriped. it does not have a gauge but It has a stick that works just fine to dip and check! tires are like new 14 inch bias ply real wide white walls. no fake crap here. and no flat spots.
the body
This rat rod sits in rudy red primer. I guarantee that it HAS rust and dents or your money back! That being said it is really solid. If you wanted to doll it up with a nice paint job it would be easy to restore if needed. The grill is a fiberglass 32 ford I do believe. The spade could be easily removed if you so desire there is a grill behind it. The seat is leather and folds down for storage. the battery sits in a under floor compartment. The wiring is all new and in perfect working order. turn signals horn and headlights all work. this is a safe truck. it has a lot of room even though it has about 6 inches of channel on the body. I would recommend it to anybody any size. lots of room especially for an old truck. the cowl vent works in front. the windshield is a custom glue in and does not flip out. The electric wiper works great.. All doors and handles work well. I am waiting on a driver side handle in the mail but it will be on the truck when it is picked up or shipped. I also have the window cranks on order and will be on when shipped. all windows roll up and down great on new felt seals. The title has a brand that reads "rebuilt reconstructed" due to the fact that it has a Oregon assigned VIN number and it was built using a mix of parts. It is very insurable with Hagerty insurance, and is easy to register.
The bottom line is that this is a turn key reliable well crafted attention getting truck. I welcome anyone that wants to bid on it to call me and I can give all details. I have more pics to post and I have some videos on youtube. I have a great track record on eBay and make every attempt to represent the vehicle for what it is. No glamour shots here or weird angles that hide things. My name is Norm you can reach me at 503-999-0817. I guarantee you will love driving this awesome rat rod. Good lock bidding. Chevy Bolt-based prototype may be a Buick EV for China
Thu, Jan 9 2020Late last spring, we got a look at a GM prototype that was clearly based on the Chevy Bolt EV, but with updated styling. It seemed like it could be a more crossover-styled Bolt, given the recently trademarked name of EUV. Now we get another look at the prototype, but the bodywork seems less suggestive of a Chevy, and more of a Buick. This vehicle definitely still appears to be based on the Bolt, rather than on another small GM platform. In the photos of it next to the current model, the size, wheelbase and profile are extremely similar. There are differences, though. The nose isn't as sloped or as rounded, and the rear window kicks up a little earlier. The biggest changes are in the front and rear fascias, and it's here that we see hints of Buick. There are prominent air inlets on each side of the front bumper that give the car a more aggressive look. The headlights still have a fairly rounded, organic look, but with little extensions like fangs underneath. The styled running-light section, rounded shape and the smoked lenses seem very Buick-like. The grille features a large badge that doesn't fit the shape of a bow-tie, and is more that of a round logo like Buick's. Around at the back, the full-width taillights stand out, and in the middle there is obviously a round badge, again like a Buick. The wide taillights would also be a natural evolution of Buick's current light design language that uses somewhat wide and thin lights. The rear bumper has been redesigned with new lower taillights. Now that we've established that this seems very much like a Buick, we don't think we'll see this particular version offered here with the badge. This is more likely a Buick version of the Bolt for the Chinese market, where the brand is associated with luxury and has been the spearhead for GM's electric and hybrid models. In fact, the Chevy Volt hybrid was sold there as the Buick Velite 5, which was part of a family of a electrified Velite models. This would probably also carry a Velite badge as well. While we might not see this specific Buick variant, we probably will see it offered as a Chevy in some form. With its more aggressive, crossover shape, it could be the rumored EUV model. Or it could be just a refresh of the current Bolt, since the model has been largely unchanged since its introduction for the 2017 model year. And extrapolating from this prototype, we can see how the headlights could be tweaked to tie into those air scoops as on the Suburban and Silverado.
2019 GMC Sierra revealed with CarbonPro bed and new diesel engine
Thu, Mar 1 2018It's only March, and it's already been one hell of a year for trucks. January's Detroit Auto Show saw the reveals of the 2019 Ram 1500, 2019 Ford Ranger and the 2019 Chevy Silverado. The Chicago Auto Show brought new versions of the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Today, we finally got our first look at the Silverado's twin, the 2019 GMC Sierra. The truck features new styling, a new diesel engine and — on the Sierra Denali — a carbon fiber bed. As with every new full-size truck, the Sierra is larger than the outgoing model in almost every dimension, though exact dimensions haven't been revealed. For reference, though, the Chevy Silverado's bed is 7-inches wider than before. The new Sierra grille is more upright than before and features new C-shaped lighting. The Denali gets LED headlights, tail lights and fog lights. Both SLT and Denali trims get unique 22-inch wheels. As we saw in spy photos, the Sierra's interior is mostly just a copy of the Silverado's with some chrome accents sprinkled throughout. If you like the current truck interiors, you'll be pleased with the new model. Those hoping for a wholesale change will be left wanting. The big improvements inside include a full-color heads-up display, trailer hitch assist apps and cameras, and the rear-camera mirror found in models like the Chevy Traverse and Cadillac CT6. Safety and convenience features include a surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, pedestrian detection and low-speed automatic braking. Like the Silverado, there's been a significant effort to cut weight in the new Sierra. The 2019 model loses as much as 360 pounds compared to the current truck. It uses aluminum for the doors, hood and tailgate. Steel is still used for the fenders, roof and standard cargo box. The Denali, however, gets the real surprise here. Available only on the top-tier trim, the bed box will be constructed of carbon fiber rather than steel, saving 62 pounds. Carbon fiber only replaces the steel inner panels and floor. GMC says the carbon fiber will also help scratch and corrosion resistance. SLT and Denali models also get a new MultiPro tailgate. This is unique to the Sierra and separate from the Silverado's power assist unit. A new feature that helps one get into and out of the bed using an assist handle. The tailgate step has a maximum weight capacity of 375 pounds. There multiple positions that allow customers to extend the bed, or drop the center vertically to gain easier access to the back.
Weekly Recap: GM plans massive new paint shop at Chevy Corvette factory
Sat, May 23 2015General Motors is laying out some serious green to maintain the Chevy Corvette's expansive color palette. The automaker is breaking ground on a new paint shop this summer that's part of a $439-million investment to upgrade the 34-year-old Bowling Green, KY, factory that builds the Stingray. The massive new structure will total 450,000 square feet, nearly half the size of the current 1-million square-foot facility. Construction is expected to take two years and won't impact Corvette production. The upgrades include new robots that save paint and create a better finish, longer, more efficient ovens to bake in the finish, and LED lighting. There's also a dry scrubbing booth technology with a limestone handling system that eliminates waste. GM has invested $135 million in the factory in last four years for the changeover to build the C7 and to relocate its Performance Build Center to Bowling Green. The improvements continue to modernize the Kentucky factory, which has become a tourist attraction in its own right, as more than 56,000 enthusiasts visited it last year. The upgrades are part of a $5.4-billion investment GM confirmed in April that will remake its US footprint in the next three years. The Bowling Green expansion underscores GM's continued commitment to the Corvette, which sold nearly 38,000 copies around the world last year, an eight-year high. "With this major technology investment, we can continue to exceed the expectations of sports car buyers for years to come," North American manufacturing manager Arvin Jones said in a statement. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Takata recall hits 34 million vehicles The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration expanded the Takata airbag recall to an almost unthinkable 34 million vehicles on Tuesday. The recall is part of an agreement reached by the two sides where Takata admitted some of its airbag inflators have a defect, and the deal compels the company to comply with all future regulatory actions and investigations. Takata's airbag inflators were produced with "a propellant that can degrade over time" and lead to ruptures, NHTSA said. Six deaths have been attributed to the flaw worldwide. Investigations conducted by Takata, automakers, and others have not determined the exact cause of the inflator problem, but NHTSA said moisture appears to alter the propellant's chemical structure. It then ignites too rapidly, creates too much pressure that ruptures the inflator, and blasts shards of metal at passengers.
