The car you're looking at is a 2012 Ford Mustang GT Premium Coupe.  In fact, this is now a Roush Stage 2 Mustang that features enhancements to the exterior styling as well as the handling package via a host of carefully-selected Roush upgrades. The car is fully-loaded with more than $10,000 in Roush goodies and also comes with an Escort protection package, including a custom-installed Passport 9500ci radar and laser defense system, and more. THE TOTAL STICKER PRICE WITH ALL EXTRAS IS OVER $52,000!  Reserve price is WAY below the original price.

So, in addition to the Passport 9500ci radar and laser defense system with integrated display, Escort has outfitted the 'Stang with its QuickStart remote start and security system, which allows you to start, track and secure the vehicle from a smartphone, iPhone control interface and/or security key fob. The vehicle is also equipped with Escort's SEMA Award-winning SmartCord Live technology that uses the Escort Live network and version 2.0 app, which works with iOS and Android smartphones and provides many of the features in the radar detector connected version, including red light and speed camera alerts, speed trap locations, live traffic (iPhone), voice alerts and more.

And, it's a good thing the car is equipped with said devices because, although stage two is considered middle ground by Roush standards, the Mustang GT's 5.0 V8 already makes 412 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque and accelerates from zero-to-60 mph in about 4.5 seconds.

Styling upgrades include Roush's sixth-generation R6 “aerobody package,” which, in the front, consists of a new upper grille, high-flow lower grille, corner fascia aero pockets with driving lamps and a front chin splitter. The Roush rocker panels and rear fascia side splitters give the car a more aggressive, lowered stance punctuated in the rear with a three-piece rear decklid spoiler. Also in the back is a new rear aero valance that features race-inspired diffusers and integrates Roush's new dual-chambered chrome exhaust tips. Rounding out the exterior is a suite of Roush “R” and “Stage 2” badges. Inside, embroidered floor mats, a center console button and dash medallion help identify this as a special vehicle; Jack Roush's signature graphic can be seen on the dash and under the hood on a serialized Stage 2 plaque.

Roush chassis engineers have spent thousands of hours developing and testing to create a performance handling package that includes a larger, stiffer front stabilizer bar, twin-tube shocks with unique valving and increased spring rates. Furthermore, new bushings and a unique upper control arm translate to better contact and grip for the 18x10-inch cast aluminum five-spoke wheels with sticky Cooper RS3 ultra high-performance summer rubber.

“For more than three decades, the Escort and Beltronics brands have always signaled the very best driving technology available for radar and laser ticket protection,” said John Larson, Escort president and CEO. “We have established a history of going the extra mile to do more for our customers than anyone else – now we are putting someone in their very own 2012 Escort-equipped Roush Mustang.”

This car was the featured car at the Escort booth at SEMA for 2011 and 2012.  There are tons of pictures and videos of the car widely available documenting it's history on both Google and YouTube.

GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible

Wed, Aug 1 2018

The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else? New Corvette Feature Keeps An Eye On Valets

Wed, Aug 20 2014

Face it. If you own a luxury or sports car, whenever you hand the keys to a valet, you imagine the car going on a high-speed joyride like the Ferrari in the 1980s cult movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Now, General Motors has an option on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette that takes those worries away. The latest version of the sports car, due out in September, has a feature that records where the car goes with a camera mounted in the windshield trim. It also captures audio in the cabin as well as speed, engine revolutions per minute, gear position and G-force. That all helps the car tattle on any valet who doesn't take a slow, direct route to a parking space. GM says it's the most extensive attempt by an automaker to thwart valet joyriders, although it's not the first. The automotive website Edmunds.com says Hyundai and Mercedes offer "geofencing," a feature that sets a perimeter and then notifies the owner's smart phone if a car goes beyond it. Chrysler has a valet mode that caps engine speed and horsepower, while Audi lets owners limit engine speed for valets. With the Corvette, once the owner activates the feature with a four-digit code, the touch screen tells the driver it's in Valet Mode. But it doesn't warn the valet that he's being recorded. The feature also locks the glove box and a storage compartment in the dashboard and shuts down the infotainment system. Valet Mode started off as a performance data recorder for those who take their Corvettes on the racetrack. GM engineers quickly figured out that it had more uses. "Think of it as a baby monitor for your car," Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles said in a statement. "Anyone who has felt apprehension about handing over their keys will appreciate the peace of mind of knowing exactly what happened while their baby was out of sight." Data and video from the valet mode can be viewed instantly by the owner on the car's 8-inch color screen when the car is parked, or it can be downloaded to a computer. The system could go into more mainstream models if feedback is good on the Corvette, GM spokesman Monte Doran said. The feature is paired with a navigation system and costs $1,795. A 2015 Corvette starts at just under $54,000. Chevrolet Technology Gadgets

Mustang, Camaro, Challenger gallop onto USPS pony car postage stamp set

Tue, Jul 19 2022

Some of America's most iconic cars are about to be immortalized on postage stamps. A new set by the U.S. Postal Service will celebrate the the golden era of pony cars, featuring five classic examples of Detroit iron. Each one is beautifully illustrated in oil-on-canvas style, with subjects in motion and sunlight glinting off the chrome, and would add a nice touch to any first-class letter. The pony car segment was all about (relatively) small, sporty alternatives to the full-size land yachts of the 1960s. They typically came equipped with 6-cylinder engines or small-block V8s. The category was named after the Ford Mustang, hence  the name. Some, though, argue that the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched a couple of weeks before the Mustang, is the first. Luckily, the Falcon-based Mustang's distinct styling generated a sales sensation, or we might be calling them fish cars. Appropriately, one of the featured cars is a Mustang. But it's not just any Mustang. The 1969 Boss 302, seen here resplendent in Bright Yellow, was created for the hotly-contested SCCA Trans-Am racing series. One of its main rivals would have been the 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28, also created specifically for the series, and is included in the set in Fathom Green. Representing Auburn Hills in the set is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T in Plum Crazy, while Southfield's American Motors gets a nod with an AMC Javelin in Big Bad Orange. The Mustang's platform cousin, a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7, is portrayed in a gorgeous Burgundy Poly that almost looks incomplete without Neko Case on the hood. It's not the first time the USPS has honored America's rich car culture on its stamps. In 2013, it issues a series of muscle car stamps with the help of Richard Petty. That set featured a 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1970 Chevelle SS, 1970 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda and, of course, a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Another set in 2016 featured classic pickup trucks. Going further back, a 2008 release had chroed and finned automobiles of the 1950s and a 2005 release featured sporty American cars of the same era. The pony car stamps will debut on August 25 at the Great American Stamp Show in Sacramento, California in partnership with the American Philatelic Society. The public is free to attend the dedication ceremony, but you must RSVP first. After that, they will be available at local post offices and on line at the USPS store.
