Numbers matching! Only 92,000 miles! No rust! Clean MA title! Factory AC Car! Very Original I've owned this beauty myself since 1998. She is a 350 cid bench seat automatic car with a GM 12 bolt rear. She recently underwent a meticulous restoration of the body. The entire nose was removed and everything from the fire wall forward was cleaned, painted, and detailed. All rust was cut out and replaced with brand new steel. The panels were then stripped to bare metal and straightened with hammer and dolly. All gaps were reset to closer than factory to get a tight look. The body was then sealed in epoxy and 3 coats of build primer were laid down with full board sanding in between. She was then sprayed in 1971 GM Lime Green followed by 3 coats of high gloss clear. All lines on this car are laser straight. A new vinyl top was installed and all bright work was straightened and buffed to a high luster. The car does have one pea-sized rust bubble at the bottom of the door that just popped up this winter. I will include about a pint of paint left from the paint job for your tech to use to touch this small spot up. The trunk is solid and has never seen any rust. Trunk light even works! The Original 350 small block engine has been warmed with a mild cam, aluminum intake manifold, Dynomax headers, and runs very well. The original intake and air cleaner lid come with the car. A Turbo Hydormatic 350 transmission handles the torque from the Chevy power plant and sends it to the 2:73 geared 12 bolt rear end. All U-joints have been replaced and rear has been inspected and serviced. All wheel bearings have been serviced or replaced. This car is a great cruiser, decent on gas, and a highway screamer. All drive train components are unmolested and matched to the car. 95% of the brake system has been rebuilt. New lines, new master cylinder, and rebuilt calipers and rear drums. Brake pads are fresh all around. This Monte still retains all of her original options including the AM/FM 8 track player, rear window defogger, rear view mirror map light, tilt steering, factory tinted glass, air conditioning and full size rally rim spare and jack set. Currently the 8 track player, map light, and rear defrost are not functioning but all of the parts are there for a rebuild if desired. The AC is unchanged from original and will need at the least a professional inspection and charge to function properly. The build sheet indicates that this car was built in December 1971 in Baltimore MD as a 4 barrel dual exhaust rally rim car. It does not look like she has ever been in an accident and has not been driven in weather in at least 20 years. Most parts are original to the car. The frame and under carriage of the vehicle are both solid and in good shape with minimal surface rust. The original undercoating is flaking off in spots. All suspension and steering equipment are in good driving shape. Rear shocks and springs are brand new. Electrical is in good original shape. All body lights function as they should. There are a few blown bulbs in the dash cluster, but all other interior lights work. Alternator was replaced two years ago. The only drivability issue would be that the gear shift indicator on the steering column is not working so you need to count as you pull the shift lever to tell where D and R are. From what I have read this is fixable but I do not have the desire to pull apart the steering column to get to the broken piece. While the body, drive train, and under carriage are all in great shape, this Monte could certainly benefit from an interior kit. The headliner is newer but the seats and carpet are showing their age. The dash is perfect and door cards are very good. All factory tinted glass is in very good shape. The BF Goodrich Radial TA ties still have plenty of tread life left and show no visible signs of dry rot. However the tires are slightly flat spotted from years of winter storage resulting in a slightly shaky ride at highway speeds. This tends to disappear for the most part when driving the car regularly, I just have not had the time this year to work out the spots. Tires are a personal preference so I will leave it to the new owner to decide what to put on rather than replace them myself. I have one of the original build sheets from the factory in rough but readable condition. I believe there to be another above the gas tank though I have not dropped the tank to check. I also have a documented history of the vehicle back to the mid-70s. This includes all work and replacement parts bought in that time and all bills of sale back to the original owner. I pride myself on maintaining a %100 percent seller rating, so I will do my best to work with you on this vehicle. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. When someone mentions an electric Lotus, the first thing that comes to mind is the Tesla Roadster, the California-based automaker's first vehicle. That car started life as an Elise before being heavily massaged and adapted by Tesla's engineers. In a similar spirit, the people at Onpoint Dyno are close to finishing Blue Lightning, a track-ready all-electric Lotus Evora. Blue Lightning uses a Tesla drive unit and a Chevrolet Volt battery pack, both mounted in the middle in place of the Evora's 3.5-liter Toyota V6. It's putting down about 450 horsepower at the wheels. The car was built for time attack sessions, so power is fed through custom forged wheels and super sticky Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires, the same ones found on the last Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. There is a custom digital instrument cluster in place of the Lotus gauges. There's also a regen paddle on the left side of the steering wheel. With a full charge, Blue Lighting should go about 120 miles. While the car runs under its own power, it's only about 90 percent complete. It has no power steering, no firewall in between the seats and the motor and battery pack, no A/C, and a large hole where the shift lever used to be. Other final touches include fine-tuning the brakes and suspension. There is also a custom rear bumper coming that should make it look more like the new Lotus Evora 400. Onpoint Dyno expects the car to hit the track in the next month or so. Related Video:
The recent death of Hollywood legend and automotive enthusiast Burt Reynolds helped drive up the value of four of his former cars from the 1970s and '80s, which sold last weekend at Barrett-Jackson's Las Vegas auction for a combined $379,500. Reynolds, who died Sept. 6 at age 82, had offered three Pontiac Trans Ams — two of them re-creations of the cars he drove in "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Hooper" and the third from 1984 used to promote his United States Football League team, the Tampa Bay Bandits. The fourth was a 1978 Chevrolet R30 pickup truck, styled like the one featured in "Cannonball Run." The "Bandit" re-creation, a 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am that Reynolds ordered to be as "movie-correct" as possible but featuring a custom-built 200-4R automatic transmission, sold for $192,500. The car features a freshly built Pontiac 400 cubic-inch V8 mated to a four-speed automatic and featuring all-new Butler Performance parts and air-conditioning components. Reynolds reportedly said this was his favorite car from his films, and it even came with an authentic movie-correct CB radio and CB antenna. The red retro-rocket "Hooper" '78 Firebird, with a 403 cubic-inch V8 and a three-speed automatic, hammered for $88,000. By comparison, a gold 1978 Trans Am also offered at the Las Vegas auction but not connected to Reynolds fetched $27,500. The 1987 Chevy R30 pickup was a re-creation of the Indy Hauler pace truck seen jumping over a moving freight train in "Cannonball Run." It hammered for $49,500. The fourth car never appeared in any of Reynolds' films but is instead the only surviving example of two Trans Ams used to promote the Tampa Bay Bandits of the now-defunct USFL, having been driven out onto the field by Reynolds and his late friend and co-star, Jerry Reed, during opening day one season. It also sold for $49,500. At the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in 2016, Reynolds accompanied a 1977 Trans Am used to promote "Bandit" onto the auction block. That car sold for $550,000. There are still plenty of companies that haven't gotten the whole social media thing down pat yet, but Hot Wheels isn't one of them. During the recent Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, Hot Wheels created a lot of buzz for itself by using a vending machine filled with Chevrolet Camaro models, but instead of money to get the cars, show attendees just had to use Twitter. To get the free car, people were asked to send a tweet to Hot Wheels Canada saying what they liked about the new Hot Wheels Edition Camaro, and including the #ChevyCIAS hashtag. This seemed to be a popular marketing tool, too, as AdWeek reports that the @HotWheelsCanada account more than tripled in followers during the course of the 10-day show. Looking ahead, this could open up even more innovative marketing possibilities using social media. Check out the video posted below to watch how it works, and while the auto show has ended and the free-car giveaway has too, we're almost certain that some of the 1,500 freebies will make their way onto eBay.
