1976 Monte Carlo Custom Cloud Rolls Royce Very Rare Collectable on 2040-cars
Waukegan, Illinois, United States
This is a very rare 1st generation Custom Cloud conversion of a new Chevrolet Monte Carlo in 1976 with 29,500 miles and in excellent driver condition. The Custom Cloud was developed to draw people into Chevrolet showrooms. Although not a replica of any one specific model of Rolls Royce, the grill was a near replica of the Rolls distinctive grill, the Rolls "flying lady" hood ornament was used on the 1st generation Custom Clouds, the Rolls Royce "RR" emblem is replicated with the Custom Cloud "CC" insignia, the "Custom Cloud" model name was similar to the Rolls Royce "Silver Cloud" model name and the tails light on the Custom Cloud are the same Lucas tail lights used on the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud. Since the Rolls Royce grill was never patented in the US, Custom Cloud patented the grill and began production. It was featured in the March 1976 issue of Car & Driver and 1976 Motor Trend which drew the attention of Rolls Royce. Lawsuit proceedings against Custom Cloud Motors for trademark infringement began quickly and Rolls Royce was granted a preliminary injunction. After Rolls Royce won the lawsuit the car was sold to Classic Coach Motors, renamed Classic Coach, the "flying lady" hood ornament was removed and the "CC" emblems were eliminated. This particular car was used in the late 70's as a display car for a tire manufacturer on the Auto Show circuit. THIS CAR DRAWS ATTENTION!. I have had this car in heated storage since my dad purchased it in 1985. This car has been driven annually since 1985 and it is still road worthy. Over the last 5 years I have replaced the radiator, alternator, starter and battery. The exhaust system is badly rusted but still runs quietly enough that you can carry a conversation easily while it is running. The exterior is in good driver quality condition. The chrome has some pitting, paint has three (3) scratches that have been touched up, the bottom of both doors have some rust. The engine, transmission, rear end, steering and brakes work perfectly but the transmission does have a slight fluid leak, This was a highly optioned Monte Carlo with Air Conditioning, Power Sun Roof, White Vinyl Top, Power Windows, Power Locks, Power Drivers Seat, and Power Steering which all work. The 8 track Stereo system is inoperative. The white headliner is stained and the drivers side seat bolster shows wear. The cruise control sticks intermittently and the turn signals works but flash quickly but all of the electrics with the exception of the Stereo are operational. The car was upgraded in the 80's with Grant Wood Steering Wheel, Amber Running Lights, Wire Wheels including spare and Wide Whitewall Tires with deep tread. FOR THE RIGHT BUYER THIS IS A GREAT OPORTUNITY FOR A RARE AND DISTICTIVE CAR. I would like to keep this car but I don't use it enough and I could use the space. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Additional photographs are available if requested. The car is available in Waukegan Illinois for inspection and a test drive. Please ask all questions before bidding. When you bid and are high bidder, you are buying the car. The car is being sold as is where is and all sales are final. Thanks for looking. |

Subprime financing on the rise in new car sales, leasing too
Fri, 07 Dec 2012We all remember the financial crisis that began several years back. At its core was a splurge of subprime lending for housing loans. The housing bubble burst, triggering a collapse of the mortgage-backed securities market. Apparently, those types of loans still exist in the automotive industry, and the market share for these types of "nonprime, subprime, and deep subprime," loans has grown 13.6 percent compared to the third quarter a year ago.
According to an Automotive News report, high-risk lending expanded to 24.8 percent of total loans in Q3, up from 21.9 percent for this time last year. As this level increased, average credit scores of borrowers dropped to 755, down from 763 a year ago. In that time, the average financing amount increased $90 per vehicle, to $25,963.
At 818, Volvo maintains the highest per-owner credit score, while Mitsubishi has the lowest, at 694. The highest rate of borrowers was at Toyota, with 14 percent of the market, followed by Ford with 13.1 percent and Chevrolet at 11.1.
Deep discounts — $12K, $13K, $16K — are fueling a pickup price war
Mon, Jun 4 2018Heavy discounts of up to $16,000 per vehicle are fueling a "truck war" among full-size pickups sold in the United States by the Detroit Three, a Reuters analysis shows. Strong U.S. sales this year of the highly profitable big trucks have helped offset lagging passenger car sales. But it is not clear how much of the truck demand is linked directly to ample factory incentives and dealer discounts, or how far sales might decline without those subsidies. A Reuters survey of Ford, General Motors Co's Chevrolet and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles's Ram truck dealers across the United States indicates stores are offering deep discounts the country's bestselling full-size pickup trucks. "The walls are not crashing down on full-size trucks," said Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. Detroit-based automakers want to keep cranking out their high-margin trucks, he added, and "giving up a little of the profit is the cheapest way to do it." Stores are offering discounts of up to $12,000 on the 2018 Ford F-150, which remains the best-selling vehicle in the country, recording more than 80,000 sales in May. Discounts run up to $13,000 on the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and as high as $16,000 on the Ram 1500. Average transaction prices for full-size pick-ups range from around $42,000 to $45,000, industry analysts and automakers say. All three companies are spending furiously - GM and Fiat Chrysler to help sell off carryover 2018 trucks to prepare for redesigned 2019 models, and Ford to sustain its long-held sales crown. A supplier fire that temporarily shut down production of the F-150 last month "changed the game," said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at LMC Automotive in Troy, Michigan said. The supply halt nudged Ford's crosstown rivals "to ratchet up incentives on the current models to go after weakness at Ford," he said. Deals advertised on the companies' official websites range from rebates and low-interest loans to ultra-cheap lease rates, but they are not telling the whole story. Ford, for instance, advertises a $2,000 rebate and a $500 financing credit on sales of certain F-150 models. But James Collins Ford in Louisville, Kentucky, is offering discounts of up to $12,215 on the 2018 F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4x4. The price cuts are even steeper at a number of GM and Fiat Chrysler dealers. Quirk Chevrolet is selling the 2018 Silverado 1500 Double Cab at $13,000 off sticker.
