1973 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Hardtop Coupe

Up for sale is a beautifully preserved 1973 Monte Carlo. This car was purchased new in our local home town GM dealership in 1973. It is currently owned by the 2nd owner and was also purchased in our home town GM dealership after the original owner traded it in December 1976. The car has been well preserved ever since only acquiring 71,573 miles from the day it was new. It was used regularly for a few years until it was repainted the original light green metallic in 1984. It was then stored for the majority of its life.

This Monte Carlo is equipped with a 350 cubic inch engine with 2bbl carburetor. It has factory A/C in working condition that is still charged with R-12 refrigerant! Has auxiliary transmission cooler. 4 core radiator. All emission related equipment has been removed (air pump etc.) Turbo 350 transmission. 10 bolt rear axle. Front and rear sway bars. Power front disk brakes. Power steering. Rear air shocks with on board compressor mounted in the trunk (pictured). 15 inch ralley wheels with derby centers and beauty rings. Firestone white wall tires. Matching full size spare. True dual exhaust with "Turbo mufflers."

Interior is all original. Factory tach dash with gauge package. Tilt steering column. Cruise control. Beautifully preserved power cloth bench seat with original clear plastic dealer installed seat cover (front seat bottom cover missing). Rear seat is also in pristine condition with dealer installed seat cover. Power trunk release in the glove box. Rear window defogger.

The body is in very nice original condition with one repaint in 1984. Paint is showing signs of age. Small spot on the top of the trunk jamb is peeling (pictured). Small spot next to LR back window has a small peeling spot (pictured). Front valence has a crack with minor paint peeling (pictured). LR quarter panel has small blisters starting above wheel well (pictured). The body is in otherwise very nice condition and all  body issues have been disclosed.  Car also come with custom made canvas car cover. All original documentation is included with this vehicle such as owner's manual, build sheet, maintenance plan, warranty plan, and dealership pre-delivery inspection sheet.

This will make someone a great car to show, cruise, or just as a daily driver. This car just traveled on a 250 mile road trip to the Car Craft Summer Nationals in St. Paul MN and ran flawlessly. It got an average of 19.5 MPG including idle time and slow car cruising with A/C on. Only a few small things to consider. Heater core has been bypassed due to a small leak. Gas gauge is stuck on full. These are relatively simple items to repair for someone mechanically inclined. This car is being listed with no reserve, and with a "Buy it Now".

Any questions please call 507-440-1843. Car is also for sale locally. We reserve the right to end this auction at any time. Shipping is buyers responsibility unless prior arrangements are made.  $1000.00 deposit required within 48 hours of the end of the auction.

Question of the Day: What's the most irritating car name?

Wed, Mar 9 2016

You hear a lot about how the Chevrolet Nova was a sales flop in Mexico because "No va" means "it doesn't go" in Spanish; in fact, the Nova sold pretty well south of the border, and in any case most Spanish-speakers know that "Nova" means "new" in Latin and Portuguese. However, General Motors doesn't deserve to be let off the hook for bad car names, because the Oldsmobile Achieva— no doubt inspired by the excruciating "coffee achievers" ads of the 1980s— scrapes the biggest fingernails down the screechiest chalkboard in the US-market car-name world. That is, unless you think Daihatsu's incomprehensible choice of Charade was worse. Meanwhile, Japanese car buyers could get machines with cool names like Mazda Bongo Friendee or Honda Life Dunk. It's just not fair! So, what car name drives you the craziest? Related Video: Auto News Design/Style Chevrolet Honda Mazda Daihatsu Automotive History questions car names

GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.

How GM engineers are using diaper 'snow' to keep you warm

Thu, Jan 8 2015

Testing how snow affects General Motors' vehicles isn't really a problem right now for the company's engineers, but in the dog days of summer the process isn't exactly easy. The only real option is for them to book time at the automaker's climatic wind tunnel. However, a flash of brilliance from an engineer allows snow to be simulated regardless of the temperature outside, and the discovery is all because of his daughter's wet diaper. The realization came to GM Thermal Systems engineer Nicholas Jahn while he was swimming with his daughter and noticed how her diaper ballooned in size in the water. He found out the substance that makes this possible is called sodium polyacrylate. When the material gets wet it grows and forms fluffy flakes that are a close imitation of snow. Best of all, the stuff can be prepared easily any time of the year, and it's reusable. The engineering team uses the material to test the effectiveness of the heating systems of GM's vehicles. They spread the sodium polyacrylate over the inlets at the base of the windshield to obstruct the airflow and then crank the heater. After some time, they can see how much is being sucked into the system and design more efficient systems in the future. See how the process works in the video above and read about the diaper discovery in GM's press release below. Diapers Change Chevy Cruze Winter Warm-up Time GM validation engineer uses diaper material "snow" to reduce frigid drives 2015-01-06 DETROIT – An item commonly found on an infant's changing table is helping General Motors' engineers simulate snow year round, ensuring heating systems in cars like the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze can quickly and efficiently warm its interior. Packed snow can prevent air from entering the inlet panel at the bottom of the windshield, obstructing the flow of air into the heating system and reducing the amount of air it can push out. This can lead to less efficient warming of the car's interior and windshield defrosting. "The last thing anyone wants to do when it's freezing cold out is scrape their windshield," said Nicholas Jahn, GM Vehicle Thermal Systems engineer. "The testing we perform on the Chevrolet Cruze with the diaper material allows us to maximize the car's heating capabilities." Ironically, Jahn stumbled upon his diaper-based testing method in the middle of summer. During a swim with his daughter, he noticed her diaper multiplied in size when it came into contact with water.
