1972 Monte Carlo Unmolested Original Paint Survivor on 2040-cars
Perkasie, Pennsylvania, United States
important........this vehicle does not belong to me, iam listing it for a friend who does not like to mess with computers. any questions about the cars condition or price must be directed to him by calling him at 267-347-9683. any questions emailed to me will go unanswered as iam leaving for vacation and will be away from my computer for the week. this auction is for an unmolested, original paint, survivor 1972 monte carlo. my buddy bought this car @ 10 years ago. he is owner number 3, the 2 previous owners were in the same family. my friend had been searching for one of these first generation monte carlos for a restoration project and purchased this car because of its originality, one family ownership and 66,289 documented miles. he had planned to fully restore this car but after addressing a few minor problems it was set aside until other projects were completed. then as so often happens time to work on this car never happened and now with other projects taking his time, he would like to find a new home for this monte carlo. the original 350 2bbl runs like a clock, uses no oil, no valve tick, simply purrs like a kitten. as the pics show other then maitainence items like hoses, filters and the battery the engine compartment is all original. my friend did swap in an HEI distributor, but that's a no brainer update which helps the car, run and start much better. the original distributor comes with the car. the factory air conditioning is complete but needs charged. the turbo 350 3 speed automatic trans preforms great and is shifted thru the console mounted shifter. the car is factory equipped with power steering and power brakes with front discs. the frontend has been rebuilt and a new master cylinder, front calipers and linings have been installed. the rear axle is original and the car rides on 15x7 rally wheels with BFG radials. the car drives great. the body is very solid with minor rust issues on the bottom insides of both front fenders and rear quarters however I feel it can all be corrected without panel replacement. the trunk seal leaks, the rust in the trunk area seen in the pics is only surface rust........no rust thru. the doors open and close solidly and all the glass is good but the windshield needs resealed. the original paint color is called midnight bronze. all the paint is original except for the passenger side fender which was repainted long ago after a minor parking lot snafu. the car will need stripped and repainted as the paint is severely checked. the bumpers and all trim are in good shape. the vinyl roof will need replaced as it appears at one point someone tried to paint it another color. the interior is very nice. the dashpad and instrument panel are perfect and the seats, door panels and center console are nice also. the carpet will need to be replaced as will the headliner thanks to a mouse. options are rear defogger and factory am/fm radio, although the radio does not work, the dash clock also is not working. my friend holds a clear title for this car plus much of the original paperwork as shown in the photos. a 500.00 deposit is due within 3 days of the auctions end, the balance to be paid before the car is taken. for local pickup the car is located about an hour north of Philadelphia and within easy access of the Pennsylvania turnpike. if the car is to be picked up by a transport company my friend has agreed to help out as needed. |

Corvette Stolen In Detroit Returned To Owner After 33 Years
Wed, Jun 25 2014A Detroit man had his stolen Corvette returned 33 years after it disappeared while parked on one of Detroit's main drags, according to ABC 7. The last time George Talley saw his 1979 Corvette was on a July day in 1981, when it disappeared from its parking spot on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. He had given up hope of ever seeing his car again, until a phone call from AAA brought his sporty ride home. Authorities had come across a Corvette with a questionable VIN in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. When they ran the number Talley's stolen car report came up. The car is still in pretty good shape and only has 47,000 miles on the odometer. Talley wasn't sure how he could get the car back home, but General Motors stepped in and agreed to cover the cost of bringing the 'Vette home. Talley has always had a passion for Detroit-made muscle cars. "I've always liked Corvettes. It was attractive. The ladies like 'em," Talley told ABC 7.
The U-2 spy plane needs high-performance cars to help land
Thu, Oct 15 2015Typically, aircraft deploy their landing gear from three main points. Most military aircraft, for example, deploy two gears at the back and one forward, like a tricycle. Some civilian aircraft flip the layout, with two in front and one in back - tail-draggers. The U-2 Dragon Lady is wildly different than any of these. With a 103-foot wingspan but a body that's just 63-feet long, the layout of the U-2 makes a traditional landing setup infeasible. Instead, the U-2 utilizes a pair of wheels, one up front and one in back. With such a bizarre layout, landings are so tough that since the U-2's earliest flights at Area 51, the US Air Force has used high-performance chase cars to guide the pilot down safely. The landing process isn't over there, though. As this video from Sploid shows, balancing out the aircraft to fit the detachable "pogos" – think training wheels for spy planes – is a comical procedure requiring a number of airman using their full body weight to even out the U-2. This video also recaps some of the great vehicles that have served as chase vehicles for this legendary spy plane. They include Chevrolet El Caminos, and the Fox-body Ford Mustangs so favored by the California Highway Patrol. For the last several years, the USAF has utilized products from General Motors, using fourth-generation Chevy Camaros, before switching over to the Pontiac GTO and most recently, the awesome Pontiac G8. It's fair to say that if you're a gearhead in the Air Force, this is the job you want. Check out the video, embedded up top. 2016 Chevy Volt arrives with 50-mile EV range, 41 mpg [w/ video]
Mon, Jan 12 2015Let's start with the numbers. The 2016 Chevy Volt will have an all-electric range of 50 miles from a new, 18.4-kWh lithium battery. It will get 41 miles per gallon (combined) once the battery runs dry and have 102 MPGe. Oh, and it has five seats, sort of. To compare, today's four-seat 2015 Volt has a 38-mile range from a 17.1-kWh battery in a powertrain that offers 37 mpg and 98 MPGe. So, across the board, there are notable improvements. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk story. General Motors will unveil the new Volt at the Detroit Auto Show later today, but it's been talking about how this new version – the first major plug-in hybrid vehicle to get a serious redo in the modern era – was crafted with reams and reams of data from first-gen Volt customers. At a preview event for journalists last week, GM executive chief engineer Pam Fletcher told Autoblog that these owners "gave us the recipe" to make the second-gen model. At the top of the request list was more range (check), more "fun-to-drive" behavior (check?) and a smoother and quieter experience (we'll assume a check here, given that the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder – the first North American application of this new engine family – should offer more power with less noise than the previous 1.4-liter, four-cylinder powerplant). Other customer-driven changes in the new Volt include a different place to store the charging cable (in the side of the trunk instead of under the load floor) and a new brake system with improved blended regenerative braking feel as well as driver-selectable regen levels. The requested 50-mile range comes from a new, lighter battery that has increased capacity from fewer cells (192 vs. 288) and a simplified control architecture. Along with the new battery, the electric drive unit is a two-motor deal that is up to 12 percent more efficient and 100 pounds lighter, while also being "tremendously smaller," notes Fletcher. It offers 294 pound-feet of torque and a maximum 149 horsepower of "motoring power" delivered to the wheels. GM says it has worked hard to reduced the amount of rare earth materials in these motors, and one of them doesn't use any at all. The new powertrain offers improved acceleration times, as well. The 2016 Volt can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds, a seven-percent improvement, while the 0-30 mph time has been improved by 19 percent, down to 2.6 seconds. The new Volt is more conventional looking, but certainly not completely ordinary.
