Up for auction is my 1962 Impala SS. This car is a true, numbers matching SS. The exterior trim code is 936 Ermine White. The interior trim code is 845 Aqua Bucket Seat. The first 6 digits of the vin, 21847L, means this car is a true 1962 SS Hard Top built in the Los Angeles CA factory. This car has been rebuilt mechanically and modified for more driver comfort and drivability. The original 327 has been rebuilt completely using 210 hardened valves so you can run unleaded fuel. It also has a Comp Cams mild cam "12-211-2" with a .470 valve lift. The carb has been rebuilt as well. The radiator is a new custom built aluminum radiator from CG&J in Gladsden AL. The transmission is a freshly rebuilt 700r connected to a new 3.73 rear end. The brakes are new all around with front disc brakes from Hubbard's. The steering rack has been replaced with a CPP 500 p/s box and new intermediate shaft. Springs and shocks are MOOG with all new bushings front and rear. The front A-arms have also been replaced with CPP tubular A-arms for better handling. The car has a 1" drop and has a great stance. The car is a factory A/C car and I have upgraded to a Vintage Air Gen IV system. It's ice cold and the fan puts out far more air than the original. The gauges are upgraded versions from Classic Instruments. They are the "G" series and match the car perfectly. The wheels are American Racing Torque Thrust. They are Billet and are 18" front/20" rear. Tires are Nitto 235/40/R18 in the front and 275/35/R20 in the rear. All work on the car was completed in November 2013. Since the rebuild I have put just under 2,000 miles on the car. Everything has been dialed in and it runs, drives, turns, and stops like a new car. The steering has no play and the front shows very little body roll when cornering. Cosmetically, the paint is in fair condition and appears to be mostly original. There is lacquer checking on every panel except the left rear quarter panel. The paint is still glossy though and shows well. It has a great patina to it and isn't noticeable until you get close to the car. The body is rust free and shows as a California-built car that spent most of its life in a dry climate. The bumpers are original and have some pitting and a couple small dings. The emblems, mirrors, doors handles, and window chrome look new. The glass is the original tinted glass to the car and is also in great shape. On the interior- the seats, carpet, door panels, rear panels, parcel shelf, console, steering wheel, and knobs are all restored or new. The headliner is original and is the "star" pattern. The dash is in exception shape and has a deep shine to it. You can choose to repaint it or keep it in its patina. I would encourage any serious buyer to come see/drive this car. You will not be disappointed. I will consider swapping for a Corvette. Corvette. If you have any questions or pic requests please don't hesitate to ask. I can email pictures of the complete rebuild. Buyer will get a photo album of the restoration and a binder with all receipts.THIS CAR WILL BE AT THE ACCA AUTOFAIR AT CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY SEPT. 18-21. Call Seth at 704-651-5349. Please leave a message, no texts. |

2014 Chevy Silverado priced from *$24,585, V8 gets better economy than Ford EcoBoost V6
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Chevrolet has thrown down the next hand in the pickup truck poker wars and revealed at least a couple of potential aces - depending on which numbers matter most to you. The 2014 2014 Silverado 1500 with its 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 gets 335 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, is mated to a six-speed automatic, can tow 11,500 pounds with the optional Max Trailer Package and costs the same as the outgoing Silverado, $24,585 (*including $995 destination fee). Chevy says the Silverado also stands atop the fuel economy charts when comparing any competitor with a V8 engine - and some competitors with V6 engines. The two-wheel drive model returns 16 miles per gallon city, 23 mpg highway, 19 mpg combined in two-wheel drive guise and 16 mpg city, 22 mpg highway and 18 mpg combined as a four-wheel drive.
For context around those numbers, the most fuel efficient V8-powered 2013 Ford F-150 pickups lose about two mpg in every metric compared to the Silverado, the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost returning 16 city, 18 highway and 22 combined in two-wheel drive. However, that EcoBoost does have 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. You can get a Ram 1500 with a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 25 mpg highway, but it has 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The 2013 Ram with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and its 395 hp and 407 lb-ft drops one mpg in every category to the Silverado. Its tow rating is 200 pounds beyond its nearest competitor, the F-150 with the Max Trailer Tow Package.
Elsewhere, the new Silverado gets a quieter cab with a redesigned interior, a new bed with improved load-management possibilities, disc brakes all around, tweaked steering and suspension, along with free standard scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles.
Before Chevrolet's Redline, there was the Saturn Red Line
Thu, Feb 9 2017While Chevy rolls out Redline special editions across more of the lineup at this year's Chicago Auto Show, we've been eating some 'member berries and started thinking about the last time GM used the term. Back in 2004, Saturn rolled out Red Line (two words) editions of the Ion and Vue. The lineup was joined by the Sky Red Line in 2007, and the second-generation Vue kept the tradition going in 2008. This was in the heady days of the mid-2000s, before the financial crisis and GM's bankruptcy reorganization that saw the end of Saturn. The press release headline for the 2008 Sky is now cringe-worthy: "Hot-selling Sky helps drive Saturn product renaissance." Performance lineups were the hot new thing, as automakers attempted to cash in on the tuner trend popularized by The Fast and the Furious. Chevy had SS models, Pontiac had GXP, and Saturn had Red Line. Across the Detroit Metro area, Dodge had a slew of SRT models, and Ford's Special Vehicle Team brought us the SVT Lightning pickup, the SVT Focus, and a smattering of hopped-up Mustangs. The performance cred of Red Line models varied from car to car. The Ion Red Line shared the same engine as the original Chevy Cobalt SS, a 205-horsepower supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 65 hp more than stock. Car and Driver tested one with a 0-to-60-mph time of 6.1 seconds and said the Ion "tears down the wall that has separated enthusiasts from the Saturn brand for so long." The Vue Red Line, meanwhile, came with the same optional Honda-sourced 3.5-liter V6 you could get in the regular Vue, and added a stiffer, lower suspension, bigger wheels with more aggressive rubber, and recalibrated steering assist. When the Vue was redesigned for the 2008 model year, the Vue Red Line was a similar proposition. The engine was now from GM, and up 7 horsepower to 257, but you could get it in both Red Line and XE trim. Aside from the tire and suspension upgrades, Red Line models now came with a unique front fascia and rear exhaust cutouts. The most exciting Red Line, of course, was the high-performance version of the Sky roadster, which shared underpinnings with its Pontiac Solstice twin. This model came with GM's hot 2.0-liter Ecotec Turbo, good for 260 horsepower. The extra power was crucial in covering up the Sky's unfortunate manual gearbox ratios, which left the non-turbo model aching for torque in lower gears. As we all know, Saturn was taken by the grim reaper in 2009 after an attempt to sell the brand to the Penske Group.
Is your new-car warranty good at the race track?
Mon, Feb 27 2017We've all heard the horror stories. Your buddy knows a girl that was dating a guy whose best friend's brother once broke his brand-new, recently purchased performance car while making runs at a drag strip or laps at a track day, and the manufacturer wouldn't cover the repair under warranty. True story? Urban legend? Complete crap? Yes, no, maybe. One thing's for sure: Automotive warranties have always come with caveats. In 1908, an ad in the Trenton Evening Times clearly stated: "All Ford Cars Guaranteed for One Year." Although it changed over time, by 1925 the Ford New Car Guarantee only covered 90 days on material and 30 days on labor, and it clearly stated that that there was "No guarantee whatever on Fan Belts, Glass, Bulbs, Wiring, Transmission, Bands, Hose Connections, Commutator Shells, Rollers, Spark Plugs or Gaskets." Whether or not Ol' Henry would pay to fix your Model T if you broke it shaving a tenth off your lap time at the local board track seems to be lost to history. We're guessing no. But what about today? Do new-car warranties in 2017 cover cars when they are driven on race tracks? We researched the warranties of 14 auto brands to find out, and the answer is yes, no, maybe, depending on the brand, in some cases the model, and whether or not your car is modified from stock. Acura has been out of the high-performance car game for a number of years, but jumps back into the party in 2017 with its hybrid-powered $173,000 NSX supercar. And Acura's warranty, as well as Honda's, clearly states that it does not cover "the use of the vehicle in competition or racing events." View 33 Photos So we asked Sage Marie, Senior Manager of Public Relations for Honda and Acura. "If the car is stock, the warranty covers it on a track just as it does on the street. No question," he told us. "However, if the car is modified, say with slick tires or other components that would put higher stresses on the vehicle's parts and systems, then we would have to investigate the circumstances further." Marie went on to say the same would be true for any Acura model or Honda vehicle, including the new 2017 Honda Civic Si. This became a common theme. Chevrolet actually started this practice with the fifth-generation Camaro on the high-performance ZL1 and Z/28 models.
