Crash victim found still inside car 6 hours after it was towed away [w/video]
Wed, Jan 7 2015Police near Dayton, OH, have quite a confusing case on their hands after the victim of a crash early on New Year's Day couldn't initially be found. Six hours later, the man was discovered lying on the vehicle's floorboard at the tow yard. The unidentified person was admitted to a local hospital in critical condition with possible leg injuries. The police first responded to the scene of the crash around 3:00 am on New Year's Day when a Chevrolet Impala hit a utility pole and drove through a fence, according to WHIO News. The authorities claim that they searched for the man for an hour and a half and came up with nothing. The car was then hauled away to the yard, which was only about 500 feet away. The tow yard worker found the man around 9:00 am and called 911. However, he was clearly dubious about the injured man's predicament and suggested to the operator that he might have returned to the Impala. Police are still investigating the incident. According to WHIO, authorities might have somehow missed the man in the sedan during the search. Alternatively, he could have left the scene of the accident and later returned. Looking back at the Citation IV concept that likely shaped the GM EV1
Wed, Aug 20 2014Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it. We're not sure how that applies to the GM EV1, but we'd still like to share something from Autoline Daily, an online automotive new show with our friend John McElroy. He's been covering the business for decades now and recently found something interesting: pictures of the 1984 Chevrolet Citation IV concept, seen above. Displayed half a decade before the first electric concept that would become the EV1 (inset), McElroy says it's now clear that the elegant, aerodynamic EV1 took a lot of styling cues from the Citation IV, which was developed in part thanks to GM's new-at-the-time Aerodynamics Laboratory. We agree with him that the spats over the rear wheels, the flush glass, and the covered headlights all bear a certain kind of similarity between the two cars. That the colors almost match is a nice coincidence. The Impact (the concept version of the EV1) looked "frumpier," McElroy says, because it wasn't as long as the Citation. 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette wastes no time zooming into Jay Leno's Garage
Thu, 24 Jan 2013Where else would you expect the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to show up first? Although this time it isn't exactly in Jay Leno's Garage, Leno instead playing an away game at Brown's Classic Auto in Scottsdale, Arizona. Nor does Leno drive the car, instead taking an 11-minute walkaround of the new American sports car with General Motors design head Ed Welburn, the same man who recently brought by a string of classic Corvettes to the talk show host's California compound.
It is, admittedly, a love-fest for the American sports car now featuring 450 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque, but one that also features admissions about previous Corvette seats like "they were kinda rough," and the explanation that labeling the coupe "Stingray" means not having to call it "the base Corvette." On top of that, Welburn also explains the proper application of the term "dashboard." You can watch it all in the video below.
