1966 Impala Ss Clone, Convertible, 454 5 Speed Overdrive, Frame Off Restoration on 2040-cars
Huntsville, Alabama, United States
Beautiful white Impala SS clone. I have owned the car for a year and a half and had a blast with it. It turns heads everywhere it goes. I purchased it most of the way through a frame off restoration. My son and I finished the job, which included redoing the interior, the white paint and fixing several small issues that show up after a project the size of this one. We also added new rubber throughout the interior. There are none of the rattles and squeaks associated with a car of this age. The car was burgundy when we first acquired it and so some of the pictures will show the car being rebuilt and driven as burgundy. The car has been White for over a year. The car has a rebuilt 454 installed. I cannot tell you all of what was replaced by the master mechanic who did the job. I have bought the car to be a regular play toy, and it has been. But since its not stock, I have not made a production out of keeping records. The transmission is a 5 speed. The fifth gear is an electric overdrive. This allows us to cruise the highways without getting raped at every gas station we pass. The car has a relatively new (about 1 year old) DVD player stereo and a boom box in a box in the trunk. Tunes sound good. It has disk brakes on the front and a special lock set up so that you can easily power stand (or lock the front wheels) while spinning the back ones. It also has a bleach tank installed to make those tire create a very impressive cloud of smoke as the videos will testify to. Speaking of tires, they are all very fresh. The convertible top was replaced right before I acquired the car and it has been kept under shelter since the purchase. No leaks or tears. The hydraulic system for raising and lower the top has had several parts replaced (including the pump) and it works flawlessly. The front end has been aligned recently and the battery is a few months old now. I drive the car fairly regular and have taken it several hundred miles without any issues. Its longest trip so far was in excess of 500 miles when we picked it up. As would be expected with a car this old it has a few issues. None of them are serious and most could be repaired with a little effort. My complains deal with sun visors not staying in position and windows that have issues with the fresh rubber when rolling them up and down in the back. If the buyer is within a one easy day drive, I would be glad to deliver it (you have to work with my schedule though). We (my son and I) are selling this because he cannot afford the gas (he is 17 now) and I am looking for a new toy to play with. I would really like this to go to someone that will enjoy it as much as I have. Remember when looking at the pictures, the white exterior is recent the red exteriors are at least one to one and a half years old. Note the car is too old to carry a title in Alabama. I will be able to provide a bill of sale only. Also there is no way to verify the mileage on the speedometer. |

How easy is it to rebuild a Chevy small block V8?
Sat, Mar 21 2015Chevrolet's famous small block V8 stands as one of the workhorse engines in American auto history, with its variants going into vehicles from hot rods to pickup trucks. But do you know that you can fully disassemble and completely restore one of these mills in just under four minutes? Well, as long as there's some assistance from time-lapse photography, that is. Hagerty created this short clip showing a dirt-covered small block turning from a frog into a prince. Thankfully, the time-lapse doesn't speed the process up too much, and it's still easy to see how all of the principal parts fit together. With all sorts of sensors and software helping to drive the modern automobile, viewing the internal combustion engine in its purely mechanical form is still fascinating. Related Video:
New GM subcompact SUV spied, could be a Chevy or GMC
Mon, Aug 13 2018GM's pair of subcompact crossovers have been trundling along for a while now. The Buick Encore was the first for Americans in the 2013 model year, and the Chevy Trax that was based on the Encore (an encore of the Encore, if you will) arrived for the 2015 model year. Each has undergone a mild update, but these spy photos could indicate their replacements are in the works. Or not. For starters, we can't be sure which GM brand this new SUV is destined for. Though the timing and its flowing lines could indicate Buick, the thick horizontal bars visible in the grille would indicate otherwise. The next Encore being at least related to this is at least a possibility. Making the case for GMC are those thick grille bars, the fact that it extends far below the lights, and may even rise above them, similar to the Acadia. And that rising beltline isn't that different from that of the Acadia. Arguing against the GMC idea is the Encore, which is almost always sold in GMC-Buick combo dealers. Much as the Acadia was made smaller to eliminate confusion and in-house competition with the Enclave, it's hard to see GM opting to resurrect such an issue at the bottom end of the SUV market. That means we're leaning toward this little SUV wearing a Chevy bowtie. The split grille with a large lower section and small upper section is the brand's current design language, as seen on the new Malibus and Cruzes. The shape is vaguely Equinox-like. And like Buick, Chevy also has a subcompact crossover ready for replacement: the Trax. Now, our photographer reports he's seen another subcompact testing that has Blazer design cues, but in this crossover-hungry market, we wouldn't be surprised if two similarly sized but differently styled Chevy crossovers make the grade. It's a strategy that's working pretty well for Jeep. We'll no doubt be seeing more of these disguised test vehicles milling about the country in the coming months, so perhaps we'll eventually get a better idea of what this is before more official information starts trickling out within one or two years. Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015
Tue, Feb 11 2014Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.
