Up for auction is my 1962 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport with a dual quad 409 and 4-speed manual transmission. The car has an all original drivetrain and engine, as well as all original sheet metal. I bought the car 10 years ago and had it shipped from Florida to California. I am the fourth owner after purchasing the car from a body shop owner who had too many cars on his hands. I still have a copy of the original ad from when I purchased the car 10 years ago as well as all my receipts and paperwork going back to the original owner.
All drivetrain numbers match, including: Block # 3788068, Pad # A155243 + T0220QB, Heads # 3814690 K-361, Intake # 3814881, Carter Carbs # 3361(F), 3362(R), Exhaust #s 3814682 and 3814683, and Bell housing # 3785644. You are unlikely to find a more original example, so bid accordingly, as this investment-grade car will only increase in value.
The odometer shows 34,797 miles, which may be original as the car sat for approximately 19 years, but I have no way to verify. I have the original pink slip for the car. I have restored or replaced everything on this car inside and out. The paint was done about 5 years ago and still looks great. The car is fully functional mechanically and it runs great as it should.
I've installed an original-look Griffin aluminum radiator so the car runs nice and cool. It also has a modern radio and speakers, but retains an original look, as seen in the pictures and even has the original reverb in the trunk. The car also features an upgraded primary carburetor and vacuum advance distributor. The 3:70 posi rear end was also completely rebuilt with the rest of the drivetrain.
The winning bidder will also get the original 14" wheels with full spinners, the original radiator, the original radio, speakers, primary carburetor(Carter 3362), and the correct mechanical advance distributor.
If you have any questions or need more information, please call Joe at 650-228-4680 or just click the ask a question link on the ad.
I will require a non-refundable deposit of $1000 within 3 days of the auction's end. The car will be released when full payment is received. Buyer is responsible for pickup and/or transportation of the vehicle, but I will help with loading if needed. This vehicle is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
Thank you and good luck!

Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?
Wed, 27 Feb 2013If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.
A conversation with GM's Mark Reuss on MPG, aluminum and Corvettes
Wed, Feb 19 2014There was plenty to talk about when General Motors hosted its annual mid-December holiday media reception a few months ago. GM had just decided to pull its global Chevrolet brand out of major European markets, where Chevys have competed directly with GM Europe Opel and Vauxhall vehicles, and the US government had sold its last remaining shares of GM stock. But most important was the company's just-reshuffled leadership. Post-bankruptcy CEO Dan Akerson had announced that he would step aside and that 52-year-old Mary Barra would replace him on January 15. Not only would she be the first woman to lead a major automaker, she would also be GM's first engineer CEO since Bob Stempel in the early 1990s. "I look at 2013 and 2014, as the retooling of General Motors" - Mark Reuss Replacing her as executive VP for global product development (and purchasing and supply chain) would be 49-year-old Mark Reuss, who had served a stellar four years as North American president, and elevated to corporate president (from executive VP and CFO) would be 42-year-old Dan Amman. All three are relatively young auto enthusiasts who are liked and respected inside and outside the company, and their collective talents and experience are highly complementary. I've interviewed Barra and found her smart, personable and knowledgeable, though she carefully walks the corporate line in speaking and answering questions. I met and chatted with Ammann for the first time at that holiday reception, and he made a good first impression. But I've known Reuss for some time as a genuinely good guy and a highly capable and inspiring leader, and I believe he is exactly the right person for the global product responsibility once famously held by the outspoken, oft-controversial Bob Lutz. So I jumped at an opportunity to join a group interview of Reuss (with mostly business reporters) at the Detroit Auto Show in January. It was an interesting session of mostly good questions, which he answered with refreshing candor and humor. "I look at 2013 and 2014, as the retooling of General Motors," Reuss said. "We've taken down almost every plant in North America, converted and turned it this last year, and to do that with award-winning vehicles and pretty flawless launches is key. We have to keep the train rolling on great product, because the rest won't happen without the best product, period." A reporter asked whether GM was pushing big trucks, SUVs and Corvettes again because gas is cheap. "No," Reuss said.
Engine block heater issues force GM to recall 324,226 diesel heavy duty trucks
Tue, May 7 2019General Motors has issued a recall on 324,226 diesel heavy duty trucks that could be susceptible to short circuits, and consequently, potential fire. The recall affects several models of heavy duty Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras with optional engine block heaters. GM is recalling seven different truck models spread across three years. The recall affects the 2017-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, 2017-2019 Silverado 3500HD, 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 2019 Silverado 5500HD, and 2019 Silverado 6500HD, plus the 2017-2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD and 2017-2019 Sierra 3500HD. Specifically, it includes these models with the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engines and the optional engine block heater. The recall technically deals not with the engine block heater itself, but the way it is connected. According to NHTSA campaign No. 19V328000, the engine block heater cord or the terminals that link the cord to the heater could short circuit. A short circuit could potentially damage engine components and result in a fire. According to The Detroit News, 19 fires have been reported but nobody has been injured. GM has yet to figure out a fix, and thus has not yet released a notification schedule for affected customers. If you believe your vehicle is part of the recall, contact GM customer service at 1-586-596-1733 and use reference number N182206310.
