Car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime. This is 1961 Chevrolet Impala 2dr hardtop. I have clear title in my name and in hand. This car was built right here in Baltimore at the GM Broening highway assembly plant in Dundalk, Baltimore County, Maryland. Build date code 09B which is second week September 1960 A very early build date, this car was number 292 off the assembly line for the new model year. Then off to New Jersey to spend its service life then winding up here just across river from where it was build. Original two tone Impala Ermine White roof (which has 99% weathered off) and Jewel Blue body, Blue cloth interior. Car started life as a 348 big block with cast iron powerglide automatic trans...both are long gone before I bought the car.The motor in the car is a 1961 283 Powerpack 4bbl Rochester 4GC carb out of another 1961 impala (the engine was running when pulled from other car but needs rebuild). The trans that`s in it is one i got at a swap meet...assume it needs rebuild. Front fenders are fiberglass and will need shims and ajustments, frame in good shape, glass is not broken (windshield has some wiper scratches). The car is mostly complete, missing all transmission linkage, interior missing passenger side w/s visor. Needs floor work inside and in trunk. This car is need of a complete restoration ground up. See the pictures. Email me if you would like to come see it in person.Car not road worthy and will have to be towed or trailered.  Buyer must arrange and pay for shipping I can help load. AS IS ALL SALE FINAL.

There are some extra part that go with the car... A light blue OEM type headliner brand new still in the box from Hubbards Impala (Not pictured),brand new lower control arm bushings still in the box, a newer aftermarket powerbrake booster off another impala I had (The booster might have 50 miles on it if that!) Some brand new upper and lower steering column bearings, new steering shaft rag joint still in package. extra steering column, used fender skirts that need a little work. Door locks work, one key for everything! Vent windows crank open and close, All windows roll up and down but will need new felts, wisker strips, rubber seals etc. Right rear quarter glass does need a little help rolling back up ( needs ajustment). ASK QUESTIONS. EMAIL OR CELL.

On Dec-05-13 at 20:47:59 PST, seller added the following information:

The car only has the driver side rear valance or gravel guard. The two front ones and passenger rear side are missing and not included. I will be listing a Driver side front and driver side rear left over from a white Impala i parted out, both will need work but are useable and being sold in different auctions. Also it looks like someone cut a hole in the center hump for a floor shifter. The car has headers on it with some pin holes and red cherry bomb mufflers, the exhaust pipes come out in front of the rear wheels. I am including the original Rams horn exhaust manifolds, bolts, wire looms, heat shields and generator bracket. The turquoise bubbletop in the garage is not included...sorry!!!

Cars with the most reckless drivers are full of surprises

Wed, Oct 13 2021

Insurify is a site for comparing auto insurance quotes. Because insurance shoppers need to submit information like the vehicles they're driving and the infractions they've compiled while driving those vehicles, Insurify has quite the database of correlations tying certain models to a habit of breaking certain laws. When the site's data analysts decided to compile a list of the top ten models for reckless driving citations in the decade from 2010 to 2019, the ranking contained a few wild entries. The Dodge Challenger making the countdown will surprise precisely zero people. But the Saturn L200? First, a definition: USLegal.com defines reckless driving as "driving with a willful or wanton disregard for safety. It is the operation of an automobile under such circumstances and in such a manner as to show a willful or reckless disregard of consequences." So this list is a caution about particular drivers more than the cars. For a baseline, according to Insurify data, for any random model, 15 out of 10,000 people who drive that model have picked up one citation for reckless driving. Back to that Challenger, then. No shocker for being here, but it's actually number 10, with 44 out of 10,000 Challenger drivers nabbed for a willful disregard of consequences on the road. That's better than the first surprise entry, the Saturn L200, a sedan only on sale for six years, with the least horsepower on the list, and out of production since 2005. The data set put drivers of GM's extraterrestrial sedan at 45 reckless pilots per 10,000 drivers. There are two pickups on the list, the only modern one being the Ram 1500 at eighth, with a rate of 46 in 10,000. Somehow, drivers of the third-best-selling pickup in the U.S. outrun the overwhelming numerical superiority of the best-selling vehicle in the States, the Ford F-150. The other pickup is the Chevrolet K1500 at number five, with a rate of 56 in 10,000. This is not only the oldest vehicle on the list, it went out of production in 2002, before any other vehicle on the list. Between the trucks, the Volkswagen CC slotted in at seven with 47 in 10,000 reckless driving chits, the Cadillac ATS slipped into sixth with 48 in 10,000.  The top four is a bag of unexpected. The Nissan 370Z is the first hardcore sports car on the list at number four, with 61 in 10,000 Z drivers flaunting their Fairladys in the face of Johnny Law.

Best cars for snow and ice in 2023 and 2024

Tue, Jan 23 2024

What's the best car for snow? The real answer is "the one with winter tires." What do we mean by that? You could have the finest, most advanced all-wheel-drive system or four-wheel drive in the world, but if you're running all-seasons (the spork of tires), your fancy four-wheeler won't matter much. The odds are, any vehicle on the road running good winter tires will probably perform adequately in slippery, slushy and/or snowy road conditions. (Here's a more complete explanation of why winter tires are totally worth it). In other words, you don't really need any of the cars on this list. With a set of winter tires, countless others will do the job, and even these will be at their best with proper rubber. You can find a variety of winter tires for your car here at Tire Rack. Keep in mind that you will need a full set of four snow tires for safety and performance, no matter what you're driving. The days of your dad putting just two snows on the family truckster to get it moving in a straight line are long gone. Don't get us wrong, getting a car that performs well in snow and ice is still a worthy criteria for car buyers. According to the U.S. Transportation Department, 70% of Americans live in places that get snow and ice. And much of the country has been blasted with arctic air for much of the new year. So let's look at the cars. First, we're highlighting choices for a variety of buyers and price points. Second, we're not just considering snow; we're considering general wintery conditions people will experience driving to work or school. As such, these are all choices with advanced all-wheel-drive systems, usually with "torque-vectoring" systems that not only automatically shunt power front and back, but side to side between the rear axles. Most have extra ground clearance for getting through deep snow, and we prefer those vehicles with more responsive steering, throttles and transmissions that provide a greater sense of vehicle control in slippery conditions.    Acura RDX Read our Acura RDX Review Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system was one of the first to offer torque-vectoring, and besides often being touted for its ability to greatly enhanced dry-road handling, its benefits in the slick stuff can be profound. It's actually surprising that Acura hasn't leaned into this capability further by offering more rugged versions of its vehicles.

5 reasons why GM is cutting jobs, closing plants in a healthy economy

Tue, Nov 27 2018

DETROIT — Even though unemployment is low, the economy is growing and U.S. auto sales are near historic highs, General Motors is cutting thousands of jobs in a major restructuring aimed at generating cash to spend on innovation. It's the new reality for automakers that are faced with the present cost of designing gas-powered cars and trucks that appeal to buyers now while at the same time preparing for a future world of electric and autonomous vehicles. GM announced Monday that it will cut as many as 14,000 workers in North America and put five plants up for possible closure as it abandons many of its car models and restructures to focus more on autonomous and electric vehicles. The reductions could amount to as much as 8 percent of GM's global workforce of 180,000 employees. The cuts mark GM's first major downsizing since shedding thousands of jobs in the Great Recession. The company also said it will stop operating two additional factories outside North America by the end of next year. The move to make GM get leaner before the next downturn likely will be followed by Ford Motor Co., which also has struggled to keep one foot in the present and another in an ambiguous future of new mobility. Ford has been slower to react, but says it will lay off an unspecified number of white-collar workers as it exits much of the car market in favor of trucks and SUVs, some of them powered by batteries. Here's a rundown of the reasons behind the cuts: Coding, not combustion CEO Mary Barra said as cars and trucks become more complex, GM will need more computer coders but fewer engineers who work on internal combustion engines. "The vehicle has become much more software-oriented" with millions of lines of code, she said. "We still need many technical resources in the company." Shedding sedans The restructuring also reflects changing North American auto markets as manufacturers continue to shift away from cars toward SUVs and trucks. In October, almost 65 percent of new vehicles sold in the U.S. were trucks or SUVs. That figure was about 50 percent cars just five years ago. GM is shedding cars largely because it doesn't make money on them, Citi analyst Itay Michaeli wrote in a note to investors. "We estimate sedans operate at a significant loss, hence the need for classic restructuring," he wrote. The reduction includes about 8,000 white-collar employees, or 15 percent of GM's North American white-collar workforce. Some will take buyouts while others will be laid off.
