HERE IS A GORGEOUS LOOKING 1960 CHEVROLET IMPALA CONVERTIBLE THAT HAS UNDERWENT AN OLDER RESTORATION AND IS IN FINE CRUISING SHAPE. LOTS OF RECENT WORK DONE AND BEAUTIFUL COLOR COMBINATION!

Please e-mail me with questions or to set up an inspection to see the car in person. AUCTION MAY BE STOPPED AT ANY TIME.

Vehicle came out of Chicago. Vehicle was kept in storage for a long time, slowly receiving some restoration work here and there throughout the years when time allowed. Older redo on the body done in the late 1980s that has held up very well for a driver. Recently it has had a BRAND NEW convertible top installed as well as COMPLETELY NEW interior (seat covers, door panels, carpeting, side panels). Also has had NEW tires installed, NEW trunk mat, NEW gas tank, some NEW chrome trim and lots of other small things done.

Body is VERY STRAIGHT with excellent original gaps. Doors open and close nicely. Body does NOT appear to ever have been in any major collision.

OPTIONS:

Manual steering

Manual drum brakes

Power convertible top

Dual exhaust

Fender skirts

327ci V8 motor

Automatic transmission

Stock bench seat interior

Under the hood lies a period correct 327ci 4bbl. V8 motor, driven by the stock automatic transmission on the column. Motor is mostly stock expect for an aluminum intake, Holley 4bbl. carburetor and HEI ignition for reliability. Overall it's a nice and healthy motor that fires right up, has good oil pressure and sounds great. Had it completely checked out by my mechanic and is ready to drive (I've been using it twice a month for short trips around town).  Mechanically it fires right up and sounds great along with the nice and throaty side exiting exhaust system. Transmission is solid and shifts great without any noises or grinding.

Interior is basically all stock and NEARLY BRAND NEWDoor panels are NEW. Dash is presentable with normal wear. Seats have BRAND NEW OEM covers on them. Carpet is NEW as well. Overall nicely presentable for a driver.

Underside has a ROCK SOLID frame with NO rot or major rust. Appears that the floorboards have been replaced at one time with factory panels and then heavily undercoated (job was done "ok" but could have been cleaned up nicer).

Chrome is overall presentable for a driver, with some normal pitting and small imperfections in the bumpers and side trim. Some trim is NEW like fender top ornaments, door handle guards, and various other small pieces.

The old girl is NOT perfect by any means of course so please keep that in mind when bidding. Paint is in FAIR/GOOD shape throughout, with GOOD shine and although it looks good from 10-15 feet, it has a lot of small imperfections, chips/scratches/touch-ups from decades of use. Some filler here and there on lower sections of the car as you would expect, but looks fairly straight down the sides. Floorboards were installed new but amateurly. Inner rockers have patches filled in. Not working: turn signals (new indicator lever needs installed), horn, a couple of smaller gauges disconnected, perhaps a bulb or two need replacing here and there, convertible top disconnected (works up and down manually), heater (bypassed), radio, wipers (missing arms). Missing: jack, rear seat center emblem, a couple of rear window cranks, and i'm sure a few other small things I can't remember now. Carburetor could use a rebuild (my mechanic and I have adjusted it nicely and it works fine but is older and the car could greatly benefit from a newer one). Tranny kickdown cable disconnected (I will have it reinstalled before auction ends). Crack in windshield on passenger side near the edge. Some trim is pitted here and there (outer door handles, quarter ornaments, etc.) I am sure there are many other things the car needs.

So overall she is not perfect but she's a DAMN NICE and FUN CRUISER!. Please note, I cannot remember every single issue with the car, nor do I know everything wrong with it, as it is after all over 50 years old so keep that in mind.

If you just want a FAIRLY GOOD LOOKING DRIVER to play around with, do some tlc on your own time, and take to the next level, then this is the car for you. If you want a show car, it will need some work to bring it up to that level of course. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE BIDDING OR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON. I WILL BE GLAD TO SHOW IT TO YOU TOP TO BOTTOM SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO.

Europeans ask Chevy to bring Volt back to Europe

Fri, Aug 14 2015

A group of French fans is asking for a jolt of support from General Motors to get the 2016 Chevrolet Volt across the pond. The Association Amperistes et Amis des Vehicules Rechargeables is running a Change.org petition that currently has 383 signatures out of a goal of 500. While the attempt is admirable, it's probably going to take a lot more than several hundred people for the model to make a return to the continent after the poor showing of the Opel Ampera – first-gen Volt's European cousin. The group's major argument for bringing a version of the second-gen Volt to Europe is that consumers need "an intermediate choice between expensive or range-limited pure electric cars and plug-in hybrids with a miserable electric range." Furthermore, such a vehicle would prod the competition to produce similarly efficient electrified models. They also lavish praise on the abilities of the Ampera for its long EV driving range. The supporters aren't entirely kind to GM in the petition, though, and claim the company excluded the original car from marketing efforts there. The Ampera actually enjoyed a strong European launch with more orders than initially expected and briefly topped the best-sellers list among EVs there. It was even named 2012 European Car of the Year. Those halcyon days didn't last long, and by 2014 sales fell off to a trickle. The waning reception caused GM's decision not to introduce a version of the new 2016 Volt there or in Australia. Related Video:

Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures

Tue, Jun 23 2020

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski  Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.

Weekly Recap: Electric Rapide concept showcases Aston's future

Sat, Oct 24 2015

Aston Martin showed off an all-electric Rapide S prototype this week and announced an agreement with investment firm ChinaEquity to explore development of a production version of the sports sedan. The car could arrive in about two years if the project advances, and it would be built in Gaydon, England. The concept car, called the "RapidE" was developed with Williams Advanced Engineering. The electric Rapide is meant to highlight British innovation, and it was revealed during a state visit by Chinese president Xi Jinping to the United Kingdom. Spec were not available for the concept on display. "The car we showed in London is a fully running concept but not yet defining [of] our choice of battery, motor, inverter, etc," spokesman Simon Sproule said. "Now that we have a clearer path for producing the car, we will be defining all the parameters." Aston Martin has been vocal about its electric ambitions this year, and Sproule told us at the New York Auto Show that an all-electric Rapide could cost $200,000 to $250,000 or more. "It's a study, but we're serious about it," he said. Some reports have indicated the electric Rapide could pack as much as 1,000 horsepower. Aston considers electric technology the strongest play for modernizing its powertrains and meeting emissions standards around the world. Hybrids and all-electric models can offer high outputs and strong torque delivery, which is in keeping with the Aston's image as a sportscar maker. Company brass prefer this option over dropping down to four-cylinder engines. And yes, V8s and V12s remain part of the plan. The electric push is part of Aston's future strategy to remake its lineup, which includes refreshing its sportscars, building a production version of the electric all-wheel-drive DBX concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show, and adding a four-door Lagonda. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Domino's serves up purpose-built delivery car Domino's revealed a purpose-built pizza delivery car based on the Chevy Spark. It's called the DXP, for Delivery Expert, and it can handle up to 80 pizzas. The pies stay warm thanks to an oven located behind the driver's seat, and the DXP is sauced up with a puddle-lighting feature that projects the Domino's logo outside of the car. Power comes from the Spark's stock 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 84 hp that gets up to 39 mpg on the highway. Chevy dealers will be trained to service the DXP.
