Model Overview
Chevrolet's HHR debuted in 2006 to much enthusiasm among entry-level car buyers, selling over 100,000 units in its first year. The attention-grabbing style continues in 2008, featuring a big chrome grille and a long smoothly curved hood reminiscent of Chevy's 1949 Suburban. The rear tailgate is framed by two small, round taillights, making the HHR the most unique vehicle in Chevrolet's lineup. The front-wheel drive platform is borrowed from the Cobalt; however, the HHR is aimed at those looking for more style and more cargo room than the Cobalt provides.HHR stands for "Heritage High Roof," and it is the high roof that provides ample interior headroom and generous cargo volume. Combined with a very configurable interior, including removable rear seats and a fold-flat front passenger seat, means the HHR is a very versatile passenger and cargo hauler. Captain's style seating allows good visibility and SUV appeal. The base LS comes with the 2.2L engine and five-speed manual transmission, which can be upgraded to a four-speed automatic. The interior is generously equipped with standard power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, and cruise control. Remote vehicle start is available, as are antilock brakes with traction control. Music fans can opt for a seven-speaker Pioneer premium sound system. The up-level LT trim adds an additional $1,000 to the sticker price, as well as 16-inch aluminum wheels, power mirrors, a power driver's seat, and an MP3 capable stereo with automatic volume control and an equalizer. The 2.4L engine, which puts out 172 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque, is only available on the LT trim as a $650 option. The $2,395 2LT Preferred Equipment Package available on the LT trim includes a Pioneer speaker system, leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, fog lamps, chrome appearance package, 17-inch aluminum wheels, ABS brakes, StabiliTrak, the 2.4L engine, sport suspension, and traction control.New for 2008 is the performance oriented SS model. Equipped with the same 2.0L turbo four that propels the Solstice GXP and Sky Redline, the SS promises to have plenty of verve. In addition to the hot engine, the HHR SS has four disc brakes, a stiffer suspension, 18-inch alloys, StabiliTrak, a rear spoiler, and fog lights. Inside, high-bolster seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel keep up with the performance theme.Upgraded wheels, audio systems, and comfort features are available across the model range, allowing buyers to choose their level of customization. For those looking to haul more goods than people, the HHR can be ordered in a panel configuration. It deletes the rear doors, rear windows, and rear seat, allowing users to stuff 55.6 cubic feet of cargo into the vehicle.

This is one Outstanding 2008 Chevy HHR LS. It is in exceptional mechanical condition, exterior and interior condition is clean ; and requires no reconditioning. This vehicle has been serviced regularly and has had new front struts, rotors, calipers, and brake pads, new battery, and all required maintenance done on a timely manner. Gets excellent gas mileage highway 32 to 33 mpg, and has no mechanical issues. Drives and handles nice. There are a lot of good miles left in this vehicle!

Junkyard Gem: 2005 Chevrolet Aveo LS Sedan

Sun, Jun 14 2020

The story of Daewoo in North America took some interesting plot turns over the decades. First we had the 1988-1993 Pontiac LeMans, a rebadged Daewoo LeMans. A bit later, Daewoo began selling cars under its own nameplate here, with the Lanos, Nubira, and Leganza available for the 1999-2002 model years. Then Daewoo fled the continent and left warranty service of those cars in the hands of Manny, Moe, and Jack. With GM taking over Daewoo Motors after Daewoo's bankruptcy, we got some Daewoos with Suzuki badges here— the Verona and the Reno— while Chevrolet began selling the South Korean-built Daewoo Kalos as the Aveo for the 2004 model year. This car may not be a gem in the sense that you would want to own one, but it's a gem of automotive history and thus deserves its place in this series (especially because it's one of the rare 5-speed cars sold here). Many (maybe even most) of these cars ended up in the hands of rental-car companies and other fleet users, but we can tell from the three-pedal setup that this car went to a non-fleet buyer. We've had a couple of these cars compete in the 24 Hours of Lemons, where I work as a dignified and respected race official, and they've been amazingly quick on a road course in the hands of good drivers. Power came from this 103-horsepower Opel-designed four displacing 1.6 liters. The Nubira and Lanos got versions of this engine on these shores, too. The LS was the top trim level for the Aveo in 2004, so this car got air conditioning and a halfway decent audio system (by 2004 standards). The seat fabric is industrial-grade stuff, which would have held up well under the steady drip and/or torrents of bodily fluids coating the interiors of rental cars. The 2004 Aveo LS started at $12,045, which comes to about $16,675 in 2020 dollars, so it was a lot of commuter-appliance for the price. The following generation of this car became the Chevrolet Sonic, beginning with the 2012 model year. You can still buy a new Sonic, and the inflation-adjusted price is nearly identical to that of the original AveoÂ… though you might want to move fast if you really want one, because Daewoo stopped selling the Kalos in South Korea not long ago. If you want the rarest member of the Aveo family available in North America, find yourself a hen's-teeth Pontiac G3, the short-lived Pontiac-badged version. Speaking of the G3, here's the way it broke the hearts of gas pumps around the world.

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups

Wed, 05 Dec 2012

Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.
