This van is truly one of a kind. We purchased the 2500 extended wheel base shell with tow package from Chevy and then had several customs things done to it. Quigley 4x4 in Pennsylvania converted it to an on-demand four wheel drive system, with 2 wheel, 4 wheel high and 4 wheel low settings. DMC conversion van in Milwaukee did the rest. You can clearly see that it has a custom paint job and the paint is still in excellent condition. Inside, it has seating for 9 people – 3 rows of captain’s chairs (driver’s row and 2 passenger’s rows) and a back bench. The bench folds down into a bed. Also, the two passenger rows and the bench are all removable and with them out, there is a lot of storage room. It has a DVD player and has wiring for two screens. Note that I do not have any screens in it now as the two that came with it were stolen before we got the security system and then the two replacement screens were stolen when we forgot to arm the security system. We do have two 14 inch detachable screens that I will give you if you want them. We just put them up before we leave and then take them out when we get to where we are going. The screens can run independently from one another if desired. There is a front CD/stereo (stock) and a rear CD/stereo that run out of different speakers and there are also headphone jacks for the DVD system and rear radio. It has front and rear AC and heat. There are inside running lights and shades on all of the windows in the passenger area (except for the windows on the rear doors, which I took off because they broke and didn't really like them there anyway). I have done/had a lot of work done to it in the past 9 months – I replaced all four shocks and the inside and outside tie rods and then had the front end aligned. There are four new Firestone Transforce HT LT225-75R16 tires and we have gotten up to 60,000 miles on tires on the van. The AC has recently been fixed and is working as good as new. All four rotors and brake pads were replaced a month ago. This van runs great – if you watch the YouTube video on it you can hear it start right up. This has been the most dependable vehicle I have owned in 30 years of driving. I have been extremely anal about changing the oil and I don’t think it has ever gone over 4000 miles before changing the oil and filter. It burns about 3/4 of a quart from one oil change to the next, but there is no blue smoke or anything like that from the exhaust. When we recently drive it to Texas and back, it ran smooth as glass at 75 mph and up. We really hate to sell it but our family of 8 has shrunken to 6 and so we just don’t need this big of a vehicle anymore. Although I think this van is in pretty good shape considering it is 10 years old and has over 173,000 miles on it, it is obviously a 10 year old van that has hauled around at least 6 kids for the majority of its life. I think it is important that everyone knows what the specific “evidences of use” are and want to describe it better here than I could in the other section. The driver’s seat has some cracking in the material….these seats are supposed to be leather but the way the driver’s seat has cracked, I wonder…. (photo included). The top layer of the steering wheel is peeling off, like so many of them do (photo included). The leather on the front passenger captain’s chair arm is worn through (about dime sized or a little smaller) and you can see the frame underneath (photo included). The tension string on the shade on the big window immediately behind the driver is broken and so to get it to stay up we have been using two little Velcro straps. Although I haven’t specifically checked, I am sure that some of the inside running lights are burned out. Also, two of the bolts that hold the left rear taillight got torqued off when I was replacing a light bulb in Texas a few weeks ago. The taillight housing still seems to be fairly solid in there, though (there is another nut and bolt holding it on and it is “form fitting” into the space. I am pretty sure it will be fine without the two lost bolts and I have not had plans to replace them up to this point). GM had a real problem with those double-Dutch side doors (the ones that the passengers use to get into the vehicle). Our model was before they started to put these on both sides of the van, by the way. The doors worked fine for about four years and then the hinges on the left double Dutch door started to get stiff. The hinges then wore out and wouldn't open at all and we have had them replaced but the hinges for the left door still don’t really work. The one double-Dutch door on the right opens just fine and so people can get in and out without a problem. The door on the left does open but it is very hard to open and close – very stiff. No amount of penetrating oil or white lithium grease has ever made it work better. As I said, they both do open but the one on the left doesn't open as far as it should and so if you are thinking of using this van as a hauling vehicle, be aware that you may have limited width to get material into the side. We have gotten along just fine using the one door only. The rear doors work fine. There are a couple small bubbles of rust on the left side low down where the side skirts meet the van (photos included). The van has never been in an accident, but I have driven, at very slow speed, the right front bumper into a small parking pole that I thought I was clear of (photo included) and also backed into something and dented the rear bumper a little (photo included). Also, I am pretty sure there is a leak in the windshield washer fluid reservoir because it seems to run out way faster than I think it should, though I have never seen any evidence that fluid is leaking from it. I have a video of it starting here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtqwUZ_-p7k I have a walk around video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPNVkinDQgA If you have any specific questions or would like other photos, please email me.

Chevy Crossvolt name kept alive in new trademark application
Fri, Dec 26 2014In April 2011 General Motors submitted a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the word "Crossvolt." In November of this year, the application expired for lack of a statement of use. But in August of this year, GM applied again for the same trademark, leading some to believe that it intends to apply the name to a vehicle. That vehicle could explain the mule in sliced-and-diced Chevrolet Orlando bodywork caught in several spy shots this year, theorized to be some kind of Toyota Prius V or Ford C-Max Hybrid competitor; or it could be a production version of the Chevrolet Volt MP5 concept showed off at the Beijing Motor Show in 2010, which was about the same size as the Chevy Orlando. Or it could be none of those things – but the fact that Chevrolet is keeping it current makes us believe it will be... something. Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states
Fri, 26 Sep 2014The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.
IIHS gives good ratings to 4 of 8 midsize pickups in crash test
Wed, Sep 6 2017Versions of the Toyota Tacoma, Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Crew Cab earned top ratings in a new crash test of midsize pickup trucks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, while two versions of the Nissan Frontier earned marginal ratings. But the organization gave poor marks to all eight pickups tested for their dim headlights. Overall, four of the eight pickups evaluated earned good ratings for protecting occupants in all five crash test categories — the Tacoma double cab along with crew cab versions of the Colorado, Canyon and Tacoma. But the poor headlights and lack of an automatic emergency braking system blocked any of the pickups from qualifying for the IIHS's Top Safety Pick awards. The study looked at two pickup body styles using 2017 models: crew cabs, which have four full doors and two full rows of seating, and extended cabs, which have two full front doors, two smaller rear doors and compact second-row seats. It subjected each to five tests, and it evaluated the performance of front crash prevention systems and headlights. The Toyota Tacoma crew cab was the only pickup in that class that earned a good rating for structure in the small overlap test, which replicates what happens when a vehicle clips a tree, pole or another vehicle that has crossed the center line. The model's Access Cab extended-cab version was rated similarly, though its structure was rated acceptable. "This group of small pickups performed better in the small overlap front test than many of their larger pickup cousins," says David Zuby, the Institute's executive vice president and chief research officer. "The exception was the Nissan Frontier, which hasn't had a structural redesign since the 2005 model year." The extended-cab versions of the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon earned acceptable ratings, while both the Nissan Frontier king-cab and crew-cab models were rated marginal. Toyota says its 2018 Tacoma will feature upgraded headlights and a standard autobraking system that can detect pedestrians. "Headlights are basic but vital safety equipment. Drivers shouldn't have to give up the ability to see the road at night when they choose a small pickup," Zuby said.
