1970 Chevrolet El Camino 454, A/c, P/s, P/b, Freshly Rebuilt, Excellent on 2040-cars

This Van Nuys-built, rust-free, no hit 1970 Chevrolet El Camino Custom V8 w/original A/C, P/B, and P/S was owned by an elderly piano teacher in Texas for 40 years and driven sparingly.  I acquired it three years ago from his estate.

Originally a Custom 350ci/TH350, the engine block was replaced before I got it but otherwise it was very original, rust-free, and in very good condition.  With the original engine gone, I had a GM Mark IV 454, GM stock grind flat tappet cam, new Holley 4bbl, TH400, and 12 bolt rear end w/3.31 highway gears professionally installed and completely restored the rest of the car inside and out.  The undercarriage is rust-free and untouched (except for painting the outer frame rails for aesthetics).

I had it professionally repainted in the original astro blue (GM code 25), converted the interior from blue to black, refurbished the dash w/OEM dash pad, new bench seat foam and covers, complete new suspension (bushings, springs, rear air shocks, hi po sway bars front and rear), front disc brake conversion,  new power booster and master cylinder, Flowmaster 2.5" exhaust w/H pipe and chrome tips w/correct GM big block exhaust manifolds, new American Racing polished aluminum SS style wheels and new BFG RWL tires (235/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear).

All stainless is original and in very good condition.  I did not reinstall the wheel opening trim because in my opinion the body looks cleaner without it.  The original wheel opening trim (rears unmarked and fronts with minor dings) goes with the car.

New carpet; Holley 4bbl carb; in-dash OEM style tach; battery, cables and cut-off switch; Goodmark cowl induction hood, emblems, pins and lanyards; HD four core radiator, 7 blade fan, severe duty fan clutch, and added coolant reservoir  (she runs cool in any weather), weatherstripping; Autosound digital OEM style AM/FM/Aux radio (original AM Delco radio goes with the car).  All A/C equipment is original, new hoses, and is functional but needs a recharge.  GM space saver spare installed in  the cabin for more space and lighter weight; the jack is original.

I did not refinish the bed because I use this as a parts hauler and left it as I got it.  Were I to keep this El Camino, I would Linex or Rhino line the bed for utility purposes.

This El Camino has approx 400 break-in miles and runs flawlessly.  She idles all day long at 650 rpm and runs w/highway traffic at 65 mph tacking approx. 2500 rpm.  I would not hesitate to drive her any distance.  I am reluctantly selling this El Camino due to lack of space given two ongoing 1966 Corvette restorations.

I have easily $30,000 in this El Camino.  California tags paid through August, 2014.

GM program sees dealers taking on way more loaner cars

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. Bring your car into the dealership for service, and you may need a loaner car in exchange. And with so many recalls being carried out, that means a lot of loaners – especially at General Motors dealerships. That could be one of the reasons why GM is massively expanding its loaner fleet program. While many Chevrolet and Buick-GMC dealerships have an on-site rental car location operated by a third party like Enterprise (which may or may not provide a GM vehicle), others manage their own loaner fleets. But while the range of dealerships operating such fleets was once small, reports Automotive News, the number has been growing rapidly: from the locations responsible for only 20 percent of those brands' sales two years ago to about 90 percent today. The impetus for that growth comes down to a massive expansion of GM's Courtesy Transportation Program. The initiative encourages dealers to ramp up their loaner fleet to a maximum size determined by GM, with a mix determined by the dealer itself, so that a showroom in Texas can be bolstered with a fleet of pickup trucks and a dealer in California can employ more Volt and Camaro Convertible loaners. The dealership gets a $500 credit for each vehicle its puts in its fleet, and can use those vehicles as loaners for service customers, as multi-day test drivers or to rent out separately. The vehicles remain in the dealer's fleet for 90 days or 7,500 miles, then they can be sold as used, but with new-car incentives. The dealer gets a fleet of loaners, customers get to use the loaners, try out a new car overnight or buy a barely used car with attractive incentives, and GM gets to clock more sales. But therein lies the kicker: the automaker counts the dispatch of the loaner new vehicle to the dealership as a new-car sale, which could end up distorting its sales figures. Counting loaner vehicles as sold vehicles is something of an industry-standard practice, but given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. One dealership - Paddock Chevrolet in Kenmore, NY, for example - had no loaner fleet two years ago, but now runs a fleet of 50 vehicles. Multiply that by the 4,000 or so dealers GM has across America and you're talking about the potential for hundreds of thousands of these sorts of sales.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible headed for Geneva debut

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

While most of the world is still coming down from all the hype surrounding the debut of the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month, we're already looking to the future. And according to Autoweek, the next chapter in the C7 story will unfold at the Geneva Motor Show in March. That's right, General Motors is reportedly using the Swiss stage as its venue to debut the Corvette Stingray convertible.
If this strikes you as odd, you aren't alone. After all, with a car that's such an American icon, we'd fully expect Chevrolet to unveil it here on our shores in either Chicago or New York. But according to Autoweek, GM is looking to boost export sales of its halo car, and since the C7 was engineered to compete with the world's best and brightest, showing it off in Geneva is somewhat of a smart move. What's more, those with sharp memories will recall that GM used the Geneva expo to debut the sixth-generation C6 Corvette convertible back in March 2004, so there's also a precedent.
Details surrounding the Corvette Stingray convertible are still slim, though we fully expect the 6.2-liter V8 and choice of either six-speed automatic or seven-speed manual transmissions to carry over unchanged. Prototypes spotted on the road showed the car fitted with a cloth convertible roof, as well.

Camaro-based Trans Am SE Bandit Edition borrows Burt Reynolds

Tue, Mar 29 2016

For some reason, modifying modern Chevrolet Camaros into the lurching, reincarnated shells of the Pontiac brand is still a thing. If you're the perverse sort that likes this kind of thing, you should check out the latest product from the Trans Am Depot, which comes complete with an endorsement from the star of Smokey and the Bandit, Burt Reynolds. Yes, the new Trans Am SE Bandit Edition has been signed and endorsed by the man himself, but what's important here is not the signature on the dash, it's the bits of Camaro that have been modified. Aesthetically, that means a Bandit-and-Frog-approved set of T-tops, a front-opening hood with a very large, prominent shaker scoop, an equally large and prominent screaming chicken, and Trans Am-inspired front and rear fascias. And naturally, Burt Reynolds' signature adorns the dash. There are plenty of reminders in the cabin about this car's Hollywood inspiration, too. Bandit decals can be found on the front headrests and center console lid, there are chicken wings on the Camaro-spec plastic door inserts, and the black-and-tan color scheme matches nicely with the exterior look. And power? Well, Sheriff Buford T. Justice would have a lot more trouble keeping up with this Trans Am than he did with the original. The 7.4-liter LSX V8 has been paired with a 2.9-liter supercharger which is good for 840 horsepower. It's fast and loud, and even if you can't get behind the look (we can't), at least this Camaro-in-Trans Am's clothing can impress with its performance. The Bandit Edition is limited to just 77 units with prices starting around $115,000. You can check out the official video from Trans Am Depot, which comes with a decent helping of Burt Reynolds, up top. Related Video:
