Miami, Florida, United States
1969 Chevrolet El Camino PRO-MOD XTREME STREET, Just completed a 2 year makeover on this one of a kind El Camino... I am the third owner of this documented 69k original mile car that I have owned for 15 years. I was Friends with the Second Owner (my Neighbor's Brother) who purchased the car in 1972.. I have the Protecto Plate, Original Hand Written Window Sticker, Owners Manual with Original Jacket, Pre-Delivery Service and Check Sheet, Insurance Documents and other papers that prove the mileage and Ownership.... There is so much to say about the car I guess I will start with the Motor, it is a 454 cid 4 Bolt Main that is 60 over making it 468cid, it has a Rare set of worked 69' Corvette 427/435 L-72 Closed Chamber 107cc Rectangular Port Heads casting no. 3919840 with Crane Roller Rockers, Polished Steel Crank, Eagle Rods, 11.1 Half Domed Pistons, 700 Lift Crane NOS Roller Cam with a 106 lobe center and Roller Lifters, MSD 6AL Multi-Retard Ignition Box, Holley 850 CFM Dual Feed Double Pumper Polished Carb and a K@N Real Carbon Fibre Air Cleaner, Custom Real Carbon Fibre Valve Covers, Motor has not been on the dyno but I would guess approx. 650hp on Motor + 300 NOS...... Keith Wilson Owner of Wilson Manifolds is one of my Close Friends and built me a Trick Two Stage NOS System with a Fogger and Plate on one of his Custom Aluminum Intake Manifolds that has been Ported (Port Plenum, Divider Walls @ Roof Lines for flow and distribution) and installed his Nitrous Pro Flow Direct Port V-Force Nozzles. The Fogger and Plate are set to a Conservative 150HP each but can set up with new nozzles to be a lot more HP which I didn't need, Dual LED RED Purge System that exits from back of the hood, Hooker Comp Titanium Coated Headers that are connected to my Trick High Dollar Exhaust System that took many hours to build by AC Carcraft, these guys are one of the best fabricators in the Business and took my brainstorm and made it happen.. 5 Inch Double Wall Polished S/S Tips with S/S Bezels to protect the Fenders from the heat, I had wanted to make the car able to have Open Headers at the push of a button and have the looks of a Pro Mod Exhaust and be able to Idle in Traffic next to a Cop without getting more attention from noise and it works KILLER!! Everywhere I go people can't believe how nice it came out and how Awesome it sounds Open or Closed.... When it is closed it exits though quiet Turbo Mufflers and pipes that are just in front of the rear tires.. The transmission is a modified Turbo 400 with a 2800 TCI Converter. The car has been Tubbed and has a Narrowed Rear End which is a 12 Bolt Posi with 4:88 Richmond Gears, T/A 356-T6 Bilet Rear End Cover and Strange 32 Spline Axles. The 4 link Rear Suspension has AFCO Double Adjustable Billet Coil Overs, the Front End has been lowered with Drop Spindles and has Adjustable Race Shocks, the car has Power Steering, the Front Brakes are Wilwood Lightweight Drag Racing Discs with Drilled Rotors, the car runs super cool and has NO Overheating Problems even in my 90 degree South Florida Weather with Dual Electric 13.5 Fans and the Factory Big Block Radiator, The Fuel System is two seperate Systems with S/S Lines with separate Fuel Pumps and Filters for the Motor and NOS System. Triple Fuel Pressure Gauges for Motor and each system. It has a Switch on the Dash which arms the Second Fuel System and Fuel Pump when you want to use the NOS..The Alcatara Racing Steering Wheel with Bilet Disconect has two buttons, one for the Purge and one for the Second Stage, the First Stage has a Micro Switch on the Carb that only works when the NOS is Armed and operates the Fogger at wide open throttle. I have only used the NOS a few times to Dial it in and have Never Raced the Car at the Track.. I built it to be the Baddest Street Car that can still be driven to Shows, not like a lot of Radical Street Legal Race Cars that are too Radical too really drive... The car runs good on Pump gas but I recommend C-12 if your going to spray it.. I run C-12 because the amount of miles I drive it really doesn't matter.. The fuel cell is 16 Gallons.. The tires are Mickey Thompson Sportsman Radials 26x8x15 front and 33x22.5x15 rear. Wheels are Billet Specialities SFI 15.1 Approved Street Lite Race Wheels 15x7 front and 15x15 rear. Chevy Volt 'acceptable,' Nissan Leaf 'poor' in new IIHS safety tests
Thu, Jul 31 2014Ford C-Max Hybrid also scored "acceptable" rating. With US Nissan Leaf sales up almost 30 percent during the first half of the year, the only thing that might be able to stop the battery-electric vehicle is a good, stiff barrier. Unfortunately, thing's aren't always pretty when that happens in the real world, according to new tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Things with the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in are a little bit rosier, though. The two plug-in vehicles were part of a batch of a dozen vehicles that just went through the IIHS's "small overlap" test, in which the driver's side front corner of the vehicle is crashed into a rigid barrier at 40 miles per hour. Out of the dozen, only the Mini Cooper Countryman was given a "good" rating. Five vehicles, including the Volt and the Ford C-Max Hybrid, were rated "acceptable," two were "marginal" and two, including the Leaf, were "poor." Plug-in vehicles are unique in the crash-test context because of their relatively large battery sizes. In the Volt's case, the driver had a "low risk" of injury, said the IIHS. But the Leaf's crash substantially pushed back the instrument panel and steering column, creating a scenario where the driver was "likely" to sustain leg injuries. The batteries in both the Leaf and the Volt passed safety tests specifically targeted at things like thermo and electrical properties and overall integrity. "Nissan is proud of the Leaf's 'Good' rating in all other IIHS tests, a 4-star NCAP rating from NHTSA and its IIHS Top Safety Pick rating in all previous years since the car's release," the company said in an e-mail sent to AutoblogGreen. "As for the performance of the 2014 Leaf in the 'small overlap frontal test,' Nissan will continue to review these and other results from the IIHS 'small overlap frontal test' as we seek opportunities for improvement." Check out the IIHS's press release and small car crash-test video footage below. Range of ratings: Small car ratings run the gamut in challenging small overlap front test The Mini Cooper Countryman is the only small car to earn a good rating among the latest group of 12 cars subjected to the Institute's small overlap front crash test. Two electric models and a hybrid also are in the mix, with varied results. The electric-powered Chevrolet Volt (with a gasoline engine "range extender") earns an acceptable rating, while its battery-electric rival, the Nissan Leaf, earns a poor rating.
How long will the 'golden age' of performance last?
Sat, Mar 26 2016High-powered sports and luxury cars were everywhere at the New York Auto Show, prompting the obvious question for enthusiasts: How long will this golden age of performance last? Industry leaders have some time before regulations elevate the Corporate Average Fuel Economy level in 2025. Even then, they expect cars rippling with power to survive in some form. "Is it the end of an era," I don't think so," said Ola Kallenius, Daimler AG board member for Mercedes-Benz cars marketing and sales. "That performance element of individual mobility I don't think will ever go away." Kallenius, who oversaw the company's AMG division from 2010-2013, expects it to continue to grow. Last year, AMG sold a record 68,875 units around the world, an increase of 44.6 percent over 2014, with strong growth in the US, China, and Germany. Still, there's always the potential for gas to spike, and pending fuel economy regulations are looming. That could lead AMG to add electrification to its products, Kallenius said, pointing to the electric SLS as a test case. Chevy is also thinking ahead, said Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer of the Camaro. He wouldn't bite when asked about electrification for the Camaro (he did say "never say never"), but admitted in 2025 "it's going to be pretty tough to sell V8s." For now, things are rosy for muscle cars, and Chevy confidently showcased the 640-hp Camaro ZL1 in coupe and convertible form in New York. "I think that this is truly the golden age of performance," Oppenheiser said. It's hard to disagree. News & Analysis News: The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF was a show-stopper in New York. Analysis: There was a palpable energy when this RF — for Retractable Fastback — was revealed the night before the show at a trendy off-site venue near the Hudson River. Even as a parade of SUVs and flashy luxury cars rolled out the rest of the week, the Miata remained a hot topic. The Retractable Fastback is really a clever targa top, with part of the roof stowing behind the seats, adding about 100 pounds compared to the standard convertible. It makes the car more practical and arguably more attractive. The RF continues Mazda's tradition of selling the Miata with a hardtop variant. The first and second generations offered a detachable one, and a power retractable hardtop (a $1,700 option) was available on third-gen models. Judging by its reception in New York, the RF could prove to be even more popular than its predecessors.
Cadillac CT6 production ceases January 2020 as part of D-Ham layoffs
Fri, Dec 6 2019General Motors filed paperwork under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act with Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity this week, detailing events to come at the automaker's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Starting February 28, 814 salaried and hourly workers at D-Ham, as its called, will be laid off. The 753 workers represented by the UAW will begin receiving offers in January to relocate to facilities in Michigan and Ohio, or buyout offers. As the 4-million-square-foot plant winds down through April 3 to a skeleton crew, the Cadillac CT6 ceases production in January 2020, and the last Chevrolet Impala comes off the line on February 28. The loss of the CT6 represents the end of Cadillac's latest brief, and highly regarded, adventure into flagship sedans. It might also mean the end of the 4.2-liter Blackwing twin-turbo V8 engine, at least for the moment. Both casualties are calamities. The death of the Impala closes the door on a nameplate in production for 52 years since 1957, having started off as a top-tier trim for the 1958 Bel Air known as the Bel Air Impala, once advertised with the line, "Lets you know you're the boss." As part of the new four-year labor agreement with the UAW, GM is keeping D-Ham open to build a new line of battery-electric vehicles, ultimately investing $3 billion and tripling employment to 2,225 workers when fully operational. The agreement described the coming EV as a "van" that would commence production in late 2021, but various reports say what's actually coming is a range of premium EVs in pickup and SUV bodystyles under the program codename BT1. The easy predictions put an electric GMC Sierra and Cadillac Escalade among the EV fold, but not until 2023, according to auto industry forecaster LMC Automotive. Before that, LMC claims an electric van will debut in late 2021, along with a battery-powered rebirth of the Hummer brand in pickup and SUV forms, also in late 2021.Â
