Up for bids is a 68 Chevy Elcamino project car or a great parts car. This car does not come with an engine or trans. This was a running driving car up until I pulled the engine and trans. The trans cross member, radiator, power steering pump and a few other things do come with the car. The body on this car is usuable.  Theres no rust showing through although there has been some repair in the past. The hood looks out of alignment in some of the pics but that's because it isn't bolted on in some of them. The hood has some minor dings or dents but it is repairable. The radiator support and inner fenders all look good. The front fenders seem to have been worked some near the bottoms of them. No rust showing through but there has been work done at some time. Around the wheel well seems good. Both doors seem pretty solid with maybe a little work near the lower outer part and a little inside of one of them in the lower corner. The bottoms of both of them are in great solid condition. The bed seems to have some filler work near the bottoms but around the wheel well I think is ok. Inside the bed has had some work done as well and could stand a better job done on it. The tail gate is real nice except for a small spot on one lower corner of it on the inside. The top has some minor cracking where it looks like maybe it had a vinyl top on it at some time. This is flat black paint or black primer on the entire car. The interior has pretty nice driver quality door panels and both seats are nice. They appear to have come from an olds cutlass. The dash pad, not so good, and theres a big auto meter tach and shift lite mounted on the dash top. There are a couple smaller gauges mounted on the lower dash panel also. The Elcamino has a ratchet type automatic shifter mounted in it, think its a Hurst shifter. Floors have been patched some, are are ok for a daily driver. The frame under this Elcamino needs some repair. Its fixable but does need some attention. The cars sits very low and that's from what looks to be cut coil springs in the front and the rear has air shocks on it. It looks cool but would probably ride like a buckboard wagon. The wheels and tires shown in the pic DONT come with the car but it will have some type rollers on it. Now the rear bumper, front bumper, grille and the front SS emblem all look to be about new. They are all very, very nice and straight and shiny. Also the trim around the headlights is really in great shape. Those items alone add up to lots of money. All the glass is good and as far as trim, if its not in the pic I don't have it. Everything included is pictured. This is an air conditioned car and all the box etc under the hood is there, no compressor or lines. That's about all I know to tell you about this 68 Elcamino so if you have questions please ask so theres no question at the end of the auction. This car comes with a clear VA title. If you read the description carefully, look at the pics thoroughly, you will know exactly what youre getting. Checkout my feedback guys as its well over 500 and ALL positive. You don't get great feedback like that if you lie and cheat people, I tell it like it is. Rest assure your dealing with an honest ebayer. This car can easily be put back on the road, use it for parts or tear into it and do a complete restoration. Its a super parts car with all the new bumpers etc if you want to go that direction. Also I need to mention this IS NOT an SS car, someone just put the emblems on it sometime in the past. If you have less than 10 positive feedback you must contact me before bidding or I will cancel your bid. Sorry but theres so many non paying bidders these days you have to be careful. The car can sit here up to 30 days or so as long as its paid for according to the auction. I reserve the right to end the auction early as its for sale locally also. Thanks for reading my novel and good luck should you decide to bid on this 68 Elcamino, there getting harder and harder to find.

The USPS needs 180,000 new delivery vehicles, automakers gearing up to bid

Wed, Feb 18 2015

Winning the New York City Taxi of Tomorrow tender was a huge prize for Nissan, even though the company is still working through the process of claiming its prize. The United States Postal Service has begun the process to take bids for a new delivery vehicle to replace the all-too-familiar Grumman Long Life Vehicle, and that will be a much larger plum for the automaker who wins it, perhaps worth more than six billion dollars. The Grumman LLV is an aluminum body covering a Chevrolet S-10 pickup chassis and General Motors' Iron Duke four-cylinder engine. The USPS bought them from 1987 to 1994, and the 163,000 of them still in service are a monumental drain on postal resources: they get roughly ten miles to the gallon instead of the quoted 16 mpg, drink up more than $530 million in fuel each year, and their constant repair needs like the balky sliding door and leaky windshields have led the service to increase the annual maintenance budget from $100 million to $500 million. A seat belt is about as modern as it gets for safety technology, and the USPS says that assuming things stay the same, it can't afford to run them beyond 2017. Last year it put out two triage requests for proposals seeking 10,000 new chassis and drivetrains for the Grumman and 10,000 new vehicles. The LLV is also too small for the modern mail system in which package delivery is growing and letter delivery is declining. The service says it doesn't have a fixed idea of the ideal "next-generation delivery vehicles," but it listed a number of requirements in its initial request and is open to any proposal. Carriers have some suggestions, though, saying they want better cupholders, sun visors that they can stuff letters behind, a driver's compartment free of slits that can swallow mail, and a backup camera. The request for information sent to automakers pegs the tender at 180,000 vehicles that would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 apiece, and it will hold a conference on February 18 to answer questions about the contract. GM is the only domestic maker to avow an interest, while Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have remained cagey. Yet with a possible $6.3 billion up for grabs and some new vans for sale that would be advertised on every block in the country, we have a feeling everyone will be listening closely come February 18. We also have a feeling the LeMons series is going to be flooded with Grummans come 2017. News Source: Wall Street Journal, Automotive News - sub.

Feds open investigation into Chevy Express, Ford Freestar rust issues

Wed, 28 Dec 2011

'Tis the season... for road salt. And with that, comes rust. And what does rust bring? Well, for Ford and General Motors, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation. According to The Detroit News, NHTSA is looking into potential recalls issues with Chevrolet Express vans and Ford Freestar minivans.
The feds have received five complaints that rust has caused leaking fuel filler pipes on 2003 Express vans. Separately, seven complaints have been filed over excessive rust in the rear wheel wells of 2004 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. The Freestar and Monterey went out of production in 2007. Neither issue has resulted in any crashes or injuries, according to the report.

GM laying off more than 4,000 workers Monday morning

Sat, Feb 2 2019

According to reports from Automotive News, The Detroit News, and CNN, General Motors plans to begin laying off more than 4,000 salaried workers starting Monday morning. In a statement to AN, a spokesperson for the automaker said, "We are not confirming timing. Our employees are our priority. We will communicate with them first." We've been expecting layoffs at General Motors since November, 2018. At the time, the Detroit-based automaker announced it would seek to shed 8,100 salaried employees, shut down five assembly plants in North America, and kill off several slow-selling models. One month earlier, GM offered buyout packages to 18,000 workers and said it would seek to cut its global workforce by 25 percent. A spokesperson said at the time the moves were "proactive steps to get ahead of the curve by accelerating our efforts to address overall business performance." The cost-cutting moves are expected to save GM up to $2.5 billion in 2019 and as much as $6 billion by 2020. David Kudla, CEO and chief investment strategist of Mainstay Capital Management, referred to the impending culling as "Black Monday" and told The Detroit News that the layoffs would begin around 7:30 a.m. and continue in waves throughout the coming days and weeks. GM plans to deliver on its fourth-quarter and full-year 2018 earnings report on Wednesday. President Donald Trump plans to deliver the annual State of the Union address a day earlier on Tuesday. We expect to hear plenty more from both sides over the next several days.
