You're looking at a 1966 El Camino that came from California a few years ago. It was painted just before I got it. Although the paint job has no runs and is very shiny I would rate the paint job as driver quality, but not show quality. The transmission is thought to be the original 2 speed powerglide, which works well. The motor was completely rebuilt by Mike Lester, a man who's been rebuilding engines for over 40 years. The heads was completely gone thru as well as the complete block. It has new .040 over pistons, rings, bearings, seals, cam, etc. NO MILES since the rebuild. Being a California car there's hardly any rust. There is only one area of rust that I know of, which is behind the driver's seat next to the back of the cab = very small and an easy fix (see pic). I have parts of the chrome that goes around the back window, but I believe there may be a couple pieces missing. They are available thru Ebay. The interior needs completion. The A.C. is hooked up, but we did not charge it. The truck bed is lined with a rough coating to help protect the bed. In all for being 47 years old it's in amazing shape. Although it could be called a daily driver I could not, mainly because of the age of this truck. Compared to the work done there's very little left to make the truck a 30K+ show stopper. Of all of the years El Caminos were made this is my choice of the year made. I am not working on vehicles anymore because of my age and physical limitations. I don't plan on giving this vehicle away, but I do plan to sell this truck, so bid your best, and bid in confidence that I have not misled the condition in any way. This is a great representation of a 1966 El Camino and, hopefully will go to someone who will appreciate it for many years to come. Any questions please call Tom at 217-306-2821. The truck can be seen by appointment in Chestnut, Il. 62518. Thanks for looking!

On Apr-05-13 at 07:58:15 PDT, seller added the following information:

The odometer reads 64,737 miles, but I can not verify the mileage. Besides the motor rebuild we also replaced the drag link in the steering. The steering (power steering) is in very good condition now, and will need nothing.

Pushing Back: GM expanding Chevrolet into Korea, Daewoo out

Thu, 29 Apr 2010

Chevrolet Camaro goes to South Korea - Click above for high-res image
General Motors decided several years ago to begin heavily promoting Chevrolet as its global mainstream brand even in markets where its existing brands like Opel and Daewoo were a dominant force. Today, at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea, GM Daewoo president Mike Arcamone announced that the Camaro would lead the way in GM's efforts to market Chevrolet in South Korea.
For now at least Chevrolet and Daewoo-branded vehicles will coexist in the Korean market. However, while we were in China last week GM officials told us that the Daewoo brand, which has been somewhat tainted by past quality issues, would eventually be phased out in favor of Chevrolet. When the new Aveo launches next year it will likely be badged as a Chevrolet even though GM Daewoo is in charge of engineering the car.

EcoCar3 will convert Camaro to bitchin' eco rides

Sat, Apr 26 2014

In the 47-year-history of the Chevrolet Camaro, there have been countless college-age kids spending a ton of time getting under the hood and souping 'em up. Now, General Motors is adding a twist to the concept by donating 16 Camaros for the EcoCar challenge that puts university teams together to wring out better fuel-efficiency out of various vehicles. No word on whether there will be donuts on anyone's lawn, as suggested by 80's punks the Dead Milkmen, but the idea's never a bad one. EcoCar3 will feature 16 teams such as Arizona State, Penn State, Ontario's University of Waterloo and, of course, Detroit's Wayne State University. They'll spend the next four years "[reducing] environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car," as the EcoCar organizers say. The goal is to maintain body design and safety standards while boosting efficiency and lowering emissions, but the actual process is far more complicated than that description suggests. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and Bosch are among the sponsors of the contest, which is also put on by the US Department of Energy and managed by Argonne National Laboratory. Penn State won Year Two of the three-year EcoCar 2 competition with its E85 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle converted out of a Chevy Malibu. The grand-prize winner of EcoCar2 will be announced in June. Check out the EcoCar3 website and see the announcement video below for more details. This content is hosted by a third party. GM program sees dealers taking on way more loaner cars

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. Bring your car into the dealership for service, and you may need a loaner car in exchange. And with so many recalls being carried out, that means a lot of loaners – especially at General Motors dealerships. That could be one of the reasons why GM is massively expanding its loaner fleet program. While many Chevrolet and Buick-GMC dealerships have an on-site rental car location operated by a third party like Enterprise (which may or may not provide a GM vehicle), others manage their own loaner fleets. But while the range of dealerships operating such fleets was once small, reports Automotive News, the number has been growing rapidly: from the locations responsible for only 20 percent of those brands' sales two years ago to about 90 percent today. The impetus for that growth comes down to a massive expansion of GM's Courtesy Transportation Program. The initiative encourages dealers to ramp up their loaner fleet to a maximum size determined by GM, with a mix determined by the dealer itself, so that a showroom in Texas can be bolstered with a fleet of pickup trucks and a dealer in California can employ more Volt and Camaro Convertible loaners. The dealership gets a $500 credit for each vehicle its puts in its fleet, and can use those vehicles as loaners for service customers, as multi-day test drivers or to rent out separately. The vehicles remain in the dealer's fleet for 90 days or 7,500 miles, then they can be sold as used, but with new-car incentives. The dealer gets a fleet of loaners, customers get to use the loaners, try out a new car overnight or buy a barely used car with attractive incentives, and GM gets to clock more sales. But therein lies the kicker: the automaker counts the dispatch of the loaner new vehicle to the dealership as a new-car sale, which could end up distorting its sales figures. Counting loaner vehicles as sold vehicles is something of an industry-standard practice, but given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. One dealership - Paddock Chevrolet in Kenmore, NY, for example - had no loaner fleet two years ago, but now runs a fleet of 50 vehicles. Multiply that by the 4,000 or so dealers GM has across America and you're talking about the potential for hundreds of thousands of these sorts of sales.
