With a recent repaint in bright red, its hard to miss this El Camino, and youll be struck by just how right it looks. There isnt an awkward line anywhere on the car, and the grafting of the pickup bed onto the Chevelles front clip is seamless, a testament to the stylists at GM. The paint and bodywork remain in good condition throughout, with decent panel gaps and straight sheetmetal that has apparently never been rusty; this is due to the fact that it was a California car until 2011 and it has been garage keep. The paint is two-stage urethane, so it'll look this good practically forever given even moderate care. The bed has obviously seen some use, but then whats the point of having a truck if you cant put it to work now and again? I guarantee youll be the only one at the Home Depot with one of these carrying your supplies. Thanks to its Chevelle DNA, the El Camino benefits from the myriad of interior choices available to Chevelle restorers, including the two tone grey cloth upholstery found inside this Elky. A subtle contrast to the bright red paint. Using period-correct materials and factory designs surely help maintain the authentic feel, but a few smart upgrades help make this a car that can be driven daily. Theres a alpine stereo head unit under the dash, along with a pair of Alpine Type S 6x5 speakers mounted in after market kick panels to deliver the sound, and the gauges are all fully functional. Other than the stereo everything is period correct inside the vehicle. The powertrain, which is comprised of a 350LT1 and the original 4 speed Muncie manual transmission with Holley shifter. Although there were no 350s available in 1964, it looks like it belongs there thanks to a coat Chevy paint, simple valve covers, and a chrome air cleaner. A Elderbrook 4-barrel carburetor features an electric choke, electric fuel pump, and pointless distributor . Not really intended to be a street brawler, the engine is instead a relaxed travelling partner that isnt afraid to work hard with great torque and a wonderful V8 sound from the dual tailpipes out back. It has 15 in Foose Grey Legend Rim; the tires are brand new BF Goodrich. With all the goodness of a Chevelle and the practicality of a truck, perhaps its time to revisit the El Camino. Email me or text me any questions. This is not a show car its a driver. Car is also for sale locally. Sold AS IS. A $500.00 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours, balance due in 7 days. 2016 Chevy Volt arrives with 50-mile EV range, 41 mpg [w/ video]
Mon, Jan 12 2015Let's start with the numbers. The 2016 Chevy Volt will have an all-electric range of 50 miles from a new, 18.4-kWh lithium battery. It will get 41 miles per gallon (combined) once the battery runs dry and have 102 MPGe. Oh, and it has five seats, sort of. To compare, today's four-seat 2015 Volt has a 38-mile range from a 17.1-kWh battery in a powertrain that offers 37 mpg and 98 MPGe. So, across the board, there are notable improvements. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk story. General Motors will unveil the new Volt at the Detroit Auto Show later today, but it's been talking about how this new version – the first major plug-in hybrid vehicle to get a serious redo in the modern era – was crafted with reams and reams of data from first-gen Volt customers. At a preview event for journalists last week, GM executive chief engineer Pam Fletcher told Autoblog that these owners "gave us the recipe" to make the second-gen model. At the top of the request list was more range (check), more "fun-to-drive" behavior (check?) and a smoother and quieter experience (we'll assume a check here, given that the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder – the first North American application of this new engine family – should offer more power with less noise than the previous 1.4-liter, four-cylinder powerplant). Other customer-driven changes in the new Volt include a different place to store the charging cable (in the side of the trunk instead of under the load floor) and a new brake system with improved blended regenerative braking feel as well as driver-selectable regen levels. The requested 50-mile range comes from a new, lighter battery that has increased capacity from fewer cells (192 vs. 288) and a simplified control architecture. Along with the new battery, the electric drive unit is a two-motor deal that is up to 12 percent more efficient and 100 pounds lighter, while also being "tremendously smaller," notes Fletcher. It offers 294 pound-feet of torque and a maximum 149 horsepower of "motoring power" delivered to the wheels. GM says it has worked hard to reduced the amount of rare earth materials in these motors, and one of them doesn't use any at all. The new powertrain offers improved acceleration times, as well. The 2016 Volt can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds, a seven-percent improvement, while the 0-30 mph time has been improved by 19 percent, down to 2.6 seconds. The new Volt is more conventional looking, but certainly not completely ordinary.
Watch the live reveal of the 2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra [UPDATE]
Thu, 13 Dec 2012UPDATE: The trucks have been revealed. Click here for all of the official details.
As promised, Chevrolet and GMC are offering a live webcast of the world premiere for the all-new 2014 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. After being teased with spy shots and blurry images like the one above for ages, now is the time to see the trucks in the metal, for real (well, as 'real' as it gets on a webcast, at any rate).
Shift your eyes down just below to see the reveal as it happens, starting at 9:30 AM EST. We anticipate having loads of images full technical information to share after the webcast, too, so truck aficionados should stay tuned. We'll also be bringing you live images of both trucks too, when we see them on the show floor at next month's Detroit Auto Show.
Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states
Fri, 26 Sep 2014The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.
