1998 98 Ford Svt Cobra Complete. Runs & Drives. Front Hit. Salvage Title on 2040-cars

US $3,500.00
Year:1998 Mileage:77006
Location:

North Port, Florida, United States

North Port, Florida, United States

Sadly, I am selling my beloved 1998 Cobra to which I am the second owner. On March 7, I was hit across the front end by someone pulling across three lanes of traffic to get into a parking lot. Both airbags deployed, and the car was declared a total loss by the other party's insurance company, despite my desire to keep it under 80%. The main reason was they did not understand the scarcity of these cars, and rated it as a standard Mustang or GT, no matter how much I tried to educate them.  My car has California Emissions with black leather interior, and there were only 8 of them made for this model year. The car has an intake, exhaust, upgraded suspension, Eibach lowering kits, and drilled rotors for the brakes. Transmission  and differential fluids were just changed less than 6 months ago, as was the fuel pump.

The bad is obvious... Dual airbag deployment, and front end damage. Currently the airbag light is on (Obviously), and it will turn off when the code is reset.

The good is obvious as well. 77,066 original second owner mileage. Car runs and drives with no engine leaks at all since the radiator was not even punctured. Interior is in excellent condition (aside from dog hair).

The car can be rebuilt and put back on the road if someone wants to take the time for this project. You will need to convert it to a rebuilt title.  If I had the time and patience, and was not overseas on TDY all the time, I would repair it and continue to drive it because I love the car so much. I constantly get close to 400 miles out of a tank on the highway, and close to 275 in the city.

I have new pair of single piece, wraparound crystal headlights for the car, as well as the headlights brace assembly for the car that I bought in anticipation of rebuilding my car. I have them available if anyone is interested, and they are all NIB. I also have a brand new OEM SVT wheel that is NIB at my house as well. Those are all available for the project if you would like to work out something on them so I do not have to list them on Ebay to sell.

The car comes as is, where is. And you will need to make arrangements to pick the car up and ship the car from North Port, FL. The car will come with a Florida Salvage Title, and was last titled in Texas with me, and California before with the first owner.

Please send any questions you have about the car BEFORE bidding.

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017

Tue, Feb 17 2015

Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.

Survey says $25k barrier is a problem for EVs

Sun, 01 Dec 2013

The majority of consumers are more or less priced out of the market.
Electric cars are gaining popularity with the general public, but are they still too expensive? According to a survey 1,084 consumers by Navigant Research, a consulting firm located in Boulder, CO, 71 percent want their next car to cost under $25,000, while 41 percent won't go a cent above $20K. Looks like people are even thriftier than we'd originally thought.
