The 1982 Corvette was the last of a generation which dated its basic body structure to 1968 and its chassis to 1963 the automatic transmission in 1982 Corvettes was a new four-speed unit with a torpue converter clutch operating in the top three gears. It used a higher first gear ratio (3.07:1) for improved acceleration.
Hoods of 1982 models had solenoid-operated doors to direct fresh air directly into the air cleaner during full throttle.
Chevrolet introduced "cross fire injection" on the 1982 Corvette. This wasn't fuel injection of the type available in 1957-1965 Corvettes: rather it combined two "injector" with Chevrolets computer command control system to achieve better economy, driveability and performance throughmore precise metering of the fuel. The Computer Command control itself was refined in 1982 so that it was capable of making eighty adjustments per second compared to ten the previous year.
The new fuel metering system used in 1982 included a positive fuel cutoff to prevent engine run-on (dieseling)
The charcoal air filtering element of the 1981 model was replaced with a paper element in the cross-fire injection
The exhaust system of 1982 models was redesigned with a smaller and lighter catalyic converter. The exhaust pipes leading into the converter were redesigned to deliver hotter exhaust gases to the converter to increase its efficiency. All 1982 Corvettes were buildt in the new Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Prodution was initiated in 1981 when 8,995 models wre built. Production for 1982 was 25,407.
The 1982 Corvette was the last model with optional radio packages that included an 8 track tape Because the 1982 is the last of the series, far fewer were sold and undoubtedly, because they were the best built in many ways. The 82's are particularly attractive to many collectors. Because of this, you should expect to pay 10/20% more for a 82 than you would for otherwise comparable 1980 or 1981.

Recharge Wrap-up: Indianapolis to switch 425 fleet vehicles to EVs, Chevy Corvette provides bat habitats
Tue, Nov 4 2014Indianapolis will deploy 425 battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles as part of its municipal fleet by 2016. The fleet will include such cars as the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and Ford Fusion Energi. The city will also reduce its overall fleet by 100 vehicles. In all, the revised group - called the "Freedom Fleet" - will save $8.7 million and 2.2 million gallons of gasoline over 10 years. Read more at Hybrid Cars. EVs with longer range would make vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid energy management systems more practical for the US. The idea of using EVs as energy storage for emergencies or times of high grid demand is currently being tested in Japan with Nissan's Leaf-to-Home system. The US is also interested in such capabilities, but the higher average energy use of American households would make larger batteries in EVs ideal for grid storage applications. Read more at Green Car Reports. LG Chem has broken ground on its EV battery plant in Nanjing, China. The factory, when constructed, will have a capacity of producing batteries for 100,000 cars per year according to the Korean company. The plant will supply batteries for Chinese automakers such as SAIC and Qoros. Construction is expected to be finished by the end of 2015 and LG Chem expects revenue of more than $933 million by 2020. Read more in the press release below. General Motors is using adhesive used in the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to create habitat for threatened bat species. Artificial bat caves could help alleviate white-nose fungus that leads to diminished bat populations. Leftover adhesive is used to create stalactites in the artificial caves, allowing them more structure to hang from. GM has also provided Volt battery covers to create nesting habitats for bats, which eat harmful insects and help pollinate plants. See the videos and read more in the press release below. 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Convertible offers a few more views before reveal
Mon, 04 Mar 2013Over the weekend, Chevrolet released its first images of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible. Now, ahead of the droptop's official introduction tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show, the automaker has given us a few more shots of the softop C7 showing off the car's rump albeit from a high, strategically positioned angle.
From this angle, it's hard to get a sense for how long and flat the decklid really is, but we can easily see that, like the rest of the C7's design, the new convertible's decklid and tonneau cover are far more detailed than the current car. We also get a better look at the rear haunches sans brake vents, which have apparently been moved to underneath the car in order to accommodate the top's hard cover.
As for the overall styling of the C7 convertible, with the top erected, we get some idea of what a coupe design (as opposed to the Stingray's fastback shape) would look like on this car. The C5 Corvette most recently had a coupe model that did away with the large glass hatchback, and we recently reported on a low-cost "coupe" model potentially being added to the C7's repertoire.
