The Data Label in the glovebox includes code "OAR" signifying that this was part of the pre-production 'Bucket' batch build process. Code "WD0" identifies this as a "Platform Containment Vehicle". This was the first 2010 ZR1with Jetstream Blue Metallic exterior/Ebony interior combination. As verified by both the window sticker and build sheet, the car was titled to General Motors in Warren Michigan on May 26, 2009 for uses as an vehicle. The sticker price including options was $121,980. In October 2011 the car was sold on an MSO and titled to a private party in Orlando, Florida with 11,823 miles on the odometer. Over the next year the car accumulated an additional 7,157 and the following were warranty repairs were made: Trunk lid rubber bumper (5/11/10); cigarette lighter receptacle (11/28/11); clutch assembly replaced and the driveshaft assembly overhauled (10/6/12 @ 12,084 miles). I purchased the car in December 2012 and have since put an additional 3,622 miles on the car for a total of 22,602. I am the second private party owner of the after receiving the car I went over it from end to end and applied a multi stage car finish (Zaino) to the entire exterior. During that time I inspected every inch of the car and observed no scratches, chips or other defects in the finish. Likewise the interior and under hood area are immaculate. I do not know if the tires on the car are original, but doubt it. They still have a significant amount of tread and it seems unlikely, given the power available and the softness of the tire compound that they could original. They are the original spec Michelins, however, perfectly matched to the car. I have included photos so show their condition. The local Chevrolet dealer sold a 2012 ZR1 shortly after I purchased my car and installed aftermarket wheels and tires prior to delivery. I purchased the entire take-off set including 4 chrome ZR1 specific wheels, tire pressure monitoring sensors and another set of matching Michelin Pilot Sport tires. I estimate that these tires have less than 1,000 miles on them and the wheels of course are like new. They are pictured as well and will be included in a “Buy It Now” purchase. The car has been stored indoors, under a car cover continually during my ownership except for taking it on local trips, car shows cruises, etc., averaging about 90 miles per month. Source for dates and mileages above is AutoCheck. Service records documented via Workbench Service Dealer Vehicle Report – copy available upon request. I ran an AutoCheck report on the car when I purchased it and found the following:VIN: 6.2L V8 SFICalculated Owners: 2Reported accidents: 0No abandoned title recordNo damaged title or major damage incident recordNo fire damaged title recordNo grey market title recordNo hail damage title recordNo insurance loss title or probable total loss recordNo junk or scrapped title recordNo manufacturer buyback/lemon title recordNo odometer problem title recordNo title recordNo salvage title or salvage auction recordNo water damage title recordNo NHTSA crash test recordNo frame/unibody damage recordNo recycling facility recordNo fleet, rental and/or lease use recordNo taxi use recordNo police use recordNo government use recordNo livery use recordNo driver education recordNo accident record reported through accident data sourcesNo duplicate title recordNo emission/safety inspection recordNo fire damage incident recordNo repossessed recordNo theft recordNo storm area registration/title recordI have a copy of the AutoCheck report and will forward it to any interested buyer upon request. Automakers score 8 out of top 20 most-watched ads on YouTube [w/videos]
Fri, 14 Dec 2012Who would have ever thought there'd be a day where people are able to skip television commercials only to go to websites to watch them later? Such is the joy of a DVR and YouTube. AdWeek tabulated the 20 most-watched ads on YouTube, and found that nine were car-related including eight coming from automakers.
Volkswagen continued its Star Wars theme with two ads in the top 20, including the highest-ranking car commercial The Bark Side spot at number three with almost 18 million views, which doesn't even have a single car in it. Some of our favorites are from Chrysler with Clint Eastwood in It's Halftime in America and House Arrest with Charlie Sheen for the Fiat 500 Abarth. Chevrolet, Honda, Audi and Toyota were the other automakers in the top 20, but we'd be remiss if we didn't at least mention one of the coolest ads on the list, the Hot Wheels corkscrew jump.
Of all the car videos, only the Fiat ad wasn't played during a Super Bowl. Check out all eight videos - in order - after the jump. Nike took the top spot with its My Time is Now ad that has been seen online more than 20 million times with Pepsi's Uncle Drew posted up in the runner-up; some of the other videos include four Old Spice commercials and an ad in which Snoop Dogg is pedaling Hot Pockets.
NHTSA closes 4-year GM investigation, issues common sense advisory [w/video]
Thu, Apr 9 2015Since January 2011, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been investigating a possible problem with corroding brake lines in General Motors' GMT800-platform models, like the Chevrolet Silverado and Suburban and GMC Sierra, in states with salt on their roads in the winter. However, as opposed to launching a full recall of millions of vehicles, the government is issuing a common-sense safety advisory to all drivers in snowy states to keep their vehicle's undercarriage clean. It even has a video explaining things. "Older-model vehicles, often driven in harsh conditions, are subject to corrosion over long periods of time, and we need owners to be vigilant about ensuring they, their passengers, and others on the roads are safe," said NHTSA Administrator Mark Rosekind in the announcement of the end of the investigation. The agency was clear in its report that "brake line corrosion seen in the GM vehicles was not unique," and the government "has not identified a defect that would initiate a recall order." Instead NHTSA is advising drivers, especially those of vehicles from before 2007, to wash their vehicle's undercarriage in the winter and spring to remove salt or other de-icing chemicals. It also recommends regular checks by a mechanic to make sure everything is in proper order. According to the investigation documents, for just the GMT800 platform models, NHTSA found 3,645 complaints of brake line corrosion, which included allegations of 107 crashes and 40 injuries. The issue was found to be more common in vehicles over 10 years old. GM has released a statement (embedded below) that the company "supports the consumer advisory from NHTSA urging regular maintenance and care of brake lines on older vehicles." NHTSA Closes Investigation into Brake-Line Failures NHTSA 13-15 Thursday, April 9, 2015 Agency issues safety advisory on preventing undercarriage corrosion WASHINGTON – The Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) today issued a Safety Advisory and consumer video encouraging owners of model year 2007 and older trucks, SUVs and passenger cars to inspect brake lines and thoroughly wash the underside of their vehicles to remove corrosive salt after the long winter in order to prevent brake-line failures that increase the risk of a crash.
Peter Max staring down $1M lawsuit over Corvette collection sale
Wed, Dec 17 2014Pop artist Peter Max recently sold off his collection of 36 vintage Chevrolet Corvettes – one each from 1953 to 1989 – for an undisclosed amount. The new owners have already announced plans to restore some of them and auction the models off sometime soon. Up until then, the sports cars had been languishing in various garages around New York City for decades and were caked in dust and grime. However, Max's end of the transaction has just become more complicated, because two men are suing the artist claiming he employed them to complete the deal first. The men allege that Max hired them to broker the sale of the 36 Corvettes in exchange for a 10-percent commission, according to the New York Post. They claim to have emails and text messages proving the existence of the deal, and are taking Max to court for $1 million over the squabble. The collection of Corvettes was amassed in 1989 as part of a prize package from the television network VH1, and Max bought the cars from the winner intending on using them for an art project. He never got around to it, though, and parked the sports cars around New York, until he finally sold them over the summer.
