A CURRENT AND FUTURE CLASSIC

Delivered new in Kenner, LA in November 2011, this exceptional car came to me as a Christmas gift to myself.

Boys and their toys, right?

This car has been affectionately named "Afternoon Delight."

It's on You Tube at http://youtu.be/8FmAh3IqjMU

In case you are wondering if that mileage is a typo, no it's not a typo,  it's got less than 2,000 miles on the clock and is as close to perfect as they come.

After looking over the manufacturer's statistics for the 2011 model year we learned that this car, as equipped, is fairly rare. They made 13,596 Vettes in 2011 and of those, this is one of about 200 Grand Sport Convertibles equipped with the 4LT and the Heritage Package with Velocity Yellow Tintcoat paint.

I think the really interesting detail is that this one has the 6 speed, as all Corvettes were meant to have. But somehow over the years it seems that an inordinately large number of the Corvettes are coming with Automatics. I point that out to you as someone who is likely wondering if this car is not only fun to drive, but also collectible. If you check out Corvette Blogger.com at this link http://www.corvetteblogger.com/2011/07/22/final-2011-corvette-production-statistics/ you can check out the data for yourself as to how few 6 speeds are out there. The Vettes that bring the money at the collector car auctions are the sticks, not the automatics.

It has the Heads Up Display, NAV System, Bluetooth, USB connection, fully leather wrapped interior, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, Dual Mode Exhaust which makes you happy every time it exceeds 3,000 RPM,  and every option I could think of. I think its accurate to say it's fully loaded and offers no excuses.

Frankly it is one fantastic piece of eye candy and a blast to drive.

I have it stored in a climate controlled garage in the Tampa area, and since it rests on its little carpet pads more than I drive it, a battery tender is constantly connected and comes with the car.

Little details like the keyless entry are something I am very fond of, and this car comes equipped with a spare Keyless Entry Fob.

Survey says $25k barrier is a problem for EVs

Sun, 01 Dec 2013

The majority of consumers are more or less priced out of the market.
Electric cars are gaining popularity with the general public, but are they still too expensive? According to a survey 1,084 consumers by Navigant Research, a consulting firm located in Boulder, CO, 71 percent want their next car to cost under $25,000, while 41 percent won't go a cent above $20K. Looks like people are even thriftier than we'd originally thought.

Recharge Wrap-up: EVs poll well in Portland, Tesla seeks office space

Tue, Aug 5 2014

In a poll of drivers in Portland, more than 80 percent said they would be driving an EV in the next 10 years if they weren't already. The poll was small and not scientific, with just 218 votes cast, but it does reflect a slice of a certain population with changing attitudes toward electric mobility, and 80 percent is an impressive figure. Additionally, 43 percent of respondents planned to have an EV in the next five years, and only 18 percent said they prefer gasoline-powered vehicles. With EVs in many ways repeating the adoption process that hybrids went through a decade ago, the five- or ten-year timeframe for more widespread use seems only natural. His Chevrolet Volt has been ticketed for parking six times since he took office. Granted, those street-sweeping signs are tough to keep track of, but his car has been photographed blocking at a bus stop while grabbing a burrito (who hasn't sinned in the name of a delicious burrito?), and was even caught parked in a crosswalk. The tickets were all dismissed. Read more from the SF Gate. Tesla is looking for office space in Silicon Valley. As the electric car company continues to search for a place to build its $4- to $5-billion battery Gigafactory, it also needs some real estate to expand its operations near its Palo Alto home. Tesla has expanded from 3,000 to 6,000 California-based employees since the end of 2012, and plans to add 500 more by the end of the year. It is currently looking for 200,000 to 300,000 square feet of office space close to its Fremont factory, according to sources in the real estate industry. Why the Corvette is Chevrolet's billion-dollar baby

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Edmunds has worked up a piece that tries to figure out just how much the global Chevrolet Corvette economy is worth, a spitballed guesstimate putting the number at more than $2.5 billion with the proviso that the number is probably low. It starts by taking Corvette's new car sales of 14,132 units last year, which would equate to $714,725,900 (including destination) assuming ever car sold was a base coupe with no options. In the final tally, a little extra padding gets that number up to $750,000,000.
But that's not all. Consider this: Many of the almost 1.4 million Corvettes produced over the model's history are still on the road. There are new parts being produced and aftermarket companies like Mid-America Motorworks deaing business, that single Illinois company doing more than $40 million a year in sales. There are the Corvette events large and small, restorers who do nothing but Corvettes, salvage yards that deal only in used Corvette parts and the Corvette magazines where owners find all this stuff.
And then there are the Corvette-themed tchotchkes, every single one of which provides a tiny contribution to the huge licensing royalties that General Motors collects every year. The article admits there's no way to come to an accurate number, but it just goes to show how valuable one specific model can be to a company.
