MY DESCRIPTION:

Never hit nor driven in snow or ice, this strictly non-smoking Corvette has led a garaged, pampered, and well-loved "3-season" life. I am offering it with a reserve and Buy It Now set according to Kelley Blue Book value, at less than what I truly believe this car is worth.

This is one of the finest examples of a C5 (5th generation) Corvette produced, being from the final year of C5 production, including the 24 Hours of LeMans Commemorative Edition package (2,170 coupes produced with this option), and having every available option, including the very desirable 6-speed Manual Transmission and Magnetic Ride Control. Many people consider this generation of Corvette's sensuous and flowing body style to be among the most beautiful Corvettes of all time. It certainly is the last year for hidden headlights, probably forever.

This great, very low mileage car has been a member of our family since January of 2005, when I became its second owner 8 months after it was originally purchased. The original owner in PA bought it for his wife, who apparently didn't want the car, so he traded it in at a large powersports and automotive dealer for some ATV's and a new Harley! Well, his loss was my gain, because it kept its practically flawless history of reliable service, and it's easily been to this day the best Corvette I've ever owned. By all means check the Carfax on this Corvette, which has been my 4th Vette since 1987.

Selling this car is a decision I've gone back and forth with for the past year. It's a great sports car, beautiful to look at, and a wonderful vacation companion (we've taken it on a few long trips) with its smooth highway ride (for a sports car, thanks to Magnetic Ride Control, which GM developed with Delco and is now also used by Audi and Ferrari), large cargo area, and consistent delivery of 29 to 30 MPG on the highway (that is NOT a typo, these cars get phenomenal mileage cruising in 6th gear at 70-80+ MPH!) But the sad fact is, I just don't drive it much-- lately under 1,000 miles a year, and in the meantime it takes up garage space and adds about a thousand bucks to my insurance every year. So I think it's time to hand the keys to someone else who will love and enjoy the car more often than I'm able to. I truly believe you will not find a nicer, more fun to drive, more comfortable, better looking or more reliable sports car of any kind at this price.

As listed below, I spent a few thousand dollars over the years to make a few tasteful and functional modifications to this car, always with the thought that it should appear like it came (or should have come) from the factory that way. It has the mellow (Touring) version of the Corsa Tigershark exhaust system with its gorgeous set of chrome tips in back, originally supplied for a well-known Chevrolet-made C5 concept car called the Tigershark. This exhaust combined with an SLP Blackwing cold air intake gives the car a little boost in horsepower (probably 10-20 extra, though this car was never dyno'd). It cruises quietly, but has a nice growl when you're dipping heavily into the throttle. Part of that quiet cruising is thanks to some extra, custom-fit insulation in the hatch area, which on the C5 can otherwise be a source of significant road noise and resonance. A speed shift kit gets rid of the very rubbery feeling stock shifter and shortens throws nicely. A few interior pieces dress up the cockpit, including aluminum gauge bezels that bring the dash appearance closer to what you find in the C6. It also has something of a magic box installed that offers a mini-stereo plug inside the console storage compartment, which lets you play any portable device (iPod, Android, etc.) through the factory sound system, while retaining full use of the in-dash CD and 12-disc remote CD changer. Except for the exhaust, I have the original parts that come with the car if the buyer wishes to go back to stock. I absolutely love the new Michelin Pilot run-flat tires, which have phenomenal grip in both dry and wet; in fact I think the wet weather traction is now as good as the dry traction on the original Goodyear run-flat tires.

Please check my feedback; I'm a very honest seller and I want to find a very happy buyer! Everything on this Corvette works "as new" to best of my knowledge. The deep blue paint looks fantastic, with just a few normal small road chips that have touch-up paint on them. The edition-exclusive shale interior is also close to showroom condition, with some very minor wear on the driver side seat cushion, which is normal and unavoidable for these cars; if I didn't point it out you probably wouldn't notice. There is a nearly invisible crack in the driver side turn signal lens, and I have the new Chevrolet part, which comes with the car, but haven't had time to get it installed. There is also a slight buzz noticed recently in the console area under certain conditions of acceleration, which I haven't had time to track down (I suspect the ash tray lid or its spring). I certainly welcome all questions here, in-person requests to see the car.

Good luck bidders, and be sure to check out the full picture gallery and HD video link at:

Recharge Wrap-up: EV torque secrets, UC Davis maps future of biofuels

Fri, Jul 25 2014

A UC Davis white paper maps out "Three Routes Forward for Biofuels," balancing investment risk with carbon benefits. The first option is "incremental," in which we tinker with the existing biofuel manufacturing infrastructure for small improvements over time. The "transitional" plan suggests integrating cellulosic production and other innovations with existing operations. The third route, called "leapfrogging," would mean building refineries based on new technology such as cellulosic and algae-based biofuels. The paper suggests ways the US could use these three routes together in different areas, and predicts the payoffs in terms of carbon emissions could be significant if the right people are willing to risk the capital. After all, financial advisers are always telling investors to diversify their portfolios to manage risk and rewards in the same way. Read more over at the UC Davis Institute of Transportation Studies. The Formula E Long Beach ePrix will offer free admission. The seventh round of the inaugural all-electric race season, which was moved from Los Angeles to the streets of Long Beach, will offer fans free grandstand and general admission. The race, which takes place on April 5, 2015, will use a 1.6-mile portion of IndyCar's Grand Prix of Long Beach. Read more at LA Times. Polaris is now offering its 2015 GEM electric vehicles, including the new street-legal eM1400 LSV. The passenger and utility vehicles come in two- to six-passenger configurations, many of which are street legal on roads with posted speed limits of up to 35 miles per hour. The eM1400 LSV utility vehicle seats two, offers 1,250 pounds of payload, 1,250 pounds of towing capacity, a top speed of 25 mph and a range of up to 45 miles. Its on-board charger plugs into any standard 110-volt outlet. Read more at Hybrid Cars and check out all the different configurations yourself at the Polaris website. In EVs, more torque does not always equal faster. Green Car Reports found this out when driving the Fiat 500e (with 147 pound-feet) against the similarly weighted Chevrolet Spark EV (with 400 pound-feet). The secret is, at least in part, in the gearing. The Fiat has a 9.6:1 reduction gear, making it quicker at lower speeds despite having far less available torque, while the Chevy uses a 3:1 ratio. The trade-off though, is in top speed. Furthermore, Chevy electronically limits the torque delivery at low speeds, as 400 pound-feet is a lot of launch for the little Spark EV to handle.

Chevy Corvette Z06, Ford F-150 Raptor join Lego Speed Champs

Tue, Oct 20 2015

Get ready to park some performance machines on your desk: Lego's 2016 line of Speed Champions kits will add seven new vehicles for next year, according to an update to the database Brickset. These include some serious muscle like a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Ford Mustang GT. There's also a listing called "Chevrolet Camaro Drag Race" and a very cool combo titled "Ford F-150 Raptor Ford/Model A Hot Rod". Fans of European performance don't need to be jealous, though. The database shows a kit called "Porsche 919 Hybrid and 917K Pit-Lane." Plus for fans of the Four Rings, the Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro and R8 LMS Ultra are also getting their own Lego models. Fourtitude appears to have some leaked shots, if you want to see what these kits will look like. Lego has partnered with Porsche, McLaren, and Ferrari and offers Speed Champions kits for vehicles like the Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1, Ferrari 458 Italia GT2, and LaFerrari. The models in the series aren't as heavily detailed as the massive Mini Cooper or Volkswagen Bus sets, but they make up for that in value. The individual cars retail for a fairly affordable $14.99. The Formula One playset tops the current range at $99.99, but it comes with a truck, racecar and team figures.
