If you are looking for a car that is very fun to drive, in amazing condition, and reasonably priced given the
extras (> $20K spent on modifications) this could be exactly what you are looking for! It is very low mileage, and
in great shape. Take a look at the attached Oil Analysis photo from 17K miles that states the oil is what they
would normally find at 4,100 miles. It is rare to find a built car like this that was not abused and doesn't have a
ton of miles on it. That car is very special.
I am the original owner of a low mileage daily driver C5 that is adult driven, stored winters, and meticulously
cared for. It drives like a normal Corvette until you get on the gas a little and then it becomes a torque monster.
This triple-black naturally aspirated beauty has all of the most desirable features, such as heads-up display,
magnetic selective ride control, and dual roof panels (smoke and black). No accidents, floods, or other bad things
have happened to this car. It has been truly been pampered and is in great shape.
The car was modified by Phil Rickard from Dynotech Engineering (DTE) in Fort Wayne, IN based on my goals (power,
speed, drivability, and a cam that is not too lumpy). He is a perfectionist with a ton of experience and success,
and took the time to understand my goals and created a customized package. Work was done in two phases (custom
grind cam (unique cam lobe geometry based on his racing experience that outperforms other cams) and differential
first (Stage 2+, nearly a stage 3 racing differential), then heads and Fast 90 / LS2 intake the following year).
AFR205 heads were volume balanced to have identical compression in all cylinders, and then port matched with Fast
90 (which was also "blended" - inside pathways enlarged and smoothed out for increased air flow). Finally, a stock
Z06 Titanium exhaust catback was installed. The car has a beautiful sound and the mild cam is barely noticeable
when idling, but sounds very exotic when revved.
Gears switched from 3.15 to 3.42 (Z06 shot peen hardened, with additional cryogenic hardening) and differential
blueprinted and significantly strengthened and improved. The DTE differential - transmission strut brace added for
increased strength. A Z06 rear spring and front / rear anti-sway bars were added during the last modification. I
had Baer Eradispeed "Plus" (larger two-piece) drilled & slotted rotors, Carbotech brake pads, and Earl's
Performance stainless steel braided brake hoses for improved braking. Elite Engineering "Abs of Steel" tunnel brace
to stiffen the chassis and improve handling. It also has Z06 factory rims. The suspension modifications help
balance out the power modifications to create a car with incredible power and handling!
Most OEM parts kept and included if wanted (valvetrain upgraded on heads, throttle body ported and polished, cam
and pulleys, rotors and brake pads, original headlights, still have original catback if desired but don't have
original exhaust manifold or original rims). They are something you could sell or use to bring the car back to
original if ever desired.
The attached dyno graph shows the initial stock results (it did have a K&N air filter at the time), second results
with a custom grind cam and QTP Tri-Y long-tube headers (great for torque), and final results with AFR 205 heads
and Fast 90 intake. Dyno testing performed with unlocked torque converter (more torque but less horsepower) and
closed hood (less air but more accurately represents real performance). Notice how quickly the torque ramps-up and
stays-up.
This car also has the Elite Engineering gas pedal that matched the brake pedal and their PCV catch can. I also
installed an interior insulation kit (behind seats to the rear of the car) and added a rear carpet insert to
minimize the additional sound from the headers. The interior is nearly as quiet as stock, and is very comfortable
for long trips.
The car has been very well maintained and cared for. The only problem I've had was a "parasitic loss" last year
that was tracked down to the driver's seat control switch (a fairly common problem). The seat had to be removed I
had an upholstery person modify the driver's seat to replace worn foam with denser foam, and alter to create a
better, firmer fit. It looks stock but feels better, is far more comfortable, and really helps hold you in place. I
also replaced the battery last year when initially troubleshooting this problem.
When the car is cold and started there is a very slight rattle under the car that originates behind the catalytic
converters. I brought this to a mechanic and he told me that one of the hangers for the Ti exhaust had stretched
slightly. The rattle disappears in as little as 5-10 seconds, and has not persisted for more than a minute (very
seldom more than 20-30 seconds). It is minor so I have just left it as-is.
From 3'-5' away you can't really notice the paint issues, but I'm very picky and want to be completely up-front.
The biggest issue with my car is the same as most Corvette's of this era - the factory paint job was not the best.
There is a small 1" or so drip on the driver's door that was hidden under the body side molding - found when I
removed that molding. The factory clear coat is soft and scratches easily. There is some orange peel in a couple of
areas (example shown in a rear close-up photo). There are a few scratches (light - nothing deep, and in the 3"-6"
size range), paint chips (most covered with touch-up paint), and some light pockmarks on the rocker panels from
being hit by dirt and gravel while driving. I've tried to document these problems in the attached photos, but
sometimes it is difficult to show (or even see from a few feet away). If you have questions or would like to see
something from a different angle I will try to respond to all reasonable requests.

Two More Recalls Push GM Total To 4.8 Million In A Month
Mon, Mar 31 2014General Motors announced two more recalls late Friday, bringing to 4.8 million the number of cars, trucks and SUVs the automaker has called back for repairs in the past month. The string of recalls, topped by an ignition switch problem in compact cars now linked to 13 crash deaths, has embarrassed the company and sidetracked its new CEO, who started work just over two months ago. GM has admitted knowing about the switch problem a decade ago, yet it didn't recall any cars until February. The recall delay has brought two congressional investigations and probes by the Justice Department and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Late Friday night, GM announced it would recall 490,000 late-model pickup trucks and SUVs because transmission oil cooling lines weren't secured properly in their fittings. Transmission oil can leak from a fitting and hit hot surfaces, causing fires, the company said in a statement. GM said it knows of three fires and no injuries. The recall affects Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks from the 2014 model year, as well as 2015 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe SUVs and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL SUVs. All have six-speed automatic transmissions. The Silverado is GM's top-selling vehicle and an important profit center for the company. The GMC Sierra also is among GM's top sellers. Dealers will inspect the transmission oil cooling line fittings and make sure they're securely seated, at no cost to owners. Also Friday night, GM announced the recall of 172,000 Chevrolet Cruze compact cars because the right front axle shaft can fracture and separate while being driven. The recall affects cars from the 2013 and 2014 model years equipped with 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engines. If a shaft fractures, the wheels would lose power without warning and the cars would coast to a stop. GM says it has warranty reports of several dozen shaft fractures. It is not aware of any crashes or injuries. Dealers will replace the shafts free of charge. The recall allows dealers to resume selling affected Cruzes. GM issued a stop sale order on the cars Thursday night. The recall also covers about 2,500 replacement shafts used to fix manual transmission Cruzes that were recalled last September. In all, GM has recalled 4.8 million vehicles since last month, two million more than the company sold last year in the U.S.
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vs Big Three-Row Crossovers | Spec comparison
Fri, Jan 8 2021The three-row 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is here, entering an ever-growing segment of big crossovers that Jeep has ignored since the Commander of the late 2000s. Of course, the Dodge Durango has basically been a three-row version of the current Grand Cherokee with Dodge styling and a different interior, so it's not like The Corporate Entity Formerly Known as Chrysler has been without a contender in the segment. Jeep is a stronger brand than Dodge, however, and the three-row midsize segment is stronger than those with two rows (there's a vast sales difference between the Chevrolet Traverse and Blazer, as well as the Honda Pilot and Passport). In other words, the Grand Cherokee L could be a very big deal. It is also, quite literally, a very big deal. As you're about to see, it is now the largest three-row crossover, besting the length, wheelbase and height of even the gargantuan Traverse. There's more to the story than that, however, so we put together the below comparison chart to show you how the new Grand Cherokee L lines up on paper versus the biggest three-row crossovers. That includes the 2021 Ford Explorer, 2021 Kia Telluride, 2021 Hyundai Palisade and 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. This group also represents some of the strongest entries in the segment as well as those we feel are most likely to be considered alongside the big Jeep. To that end, we also included the 2021 Lincoln Aviator in the chart since its base price is actually less than what we anticipate the luxurious, range-topping Grand Cherokee L Overland and Summit trim levels to start. Engines and drivetrains Note the differences in curb weight here. The Grand Cherokee L has the highest base curb weight of the group apart from the high-lux Aviator, yet its 3.6-liter V6 has the least amount of power and torque. Therefore, it'll be surprising if it's not the slowest in the group. There's of course the Hemi V8 available on the top Overland and Summit trim levels, but again, a hefty curb weight works against it. At 5,330 pounds, the lightest V8-powered JGCL weighs 600 pounds more than V6-power Explorer Platinum and ST models. On the other hand, nothing can touch the Hemi Jeep's towing capacity, and only the 400-hp Aviator betters the Jeep's base V6. Its 6,200-pound towing capacity greatly outdoes the 5,000-pound limits of not only the Telluride, Palisade and Traverse, but most others in the segment as well.
The U-2 spy plane needs high-performance cars to help land
Thu, Oct 15 2015Typically, aircraft deploy their landing gear from three main points. Most military aircraft, for example, deploy two gears at the back and one forward, like a tricycle. Some civilian aircraft flip the layout, with two in front and one in back - tail-draggers. The U-2 Dragon Lady is wildly different than any of these. With a 103-foot wingspan but a body that's just 63-feet long, the layout of the U-2 makes a traditional landing setup infeasible. Instead, the U-2 utilizes a pair of wheels, one up front and one in back. With such a bizarre layout, landings are so tough that since the U-2's earliest flights at Area 51, the US Air Force has used high-performance chase cars to guide the pilot down safely. The landing process isn't over there, though. As this video from Sploid shows, balancing out the aircraft to fit the detachable "pogos" – think training wheels for spy planes – is a comical procedure requiring a number of airman using their full body weight to even out the U-2. This video also recaps some of the great vehicles that have served as chase vehicles for this legendary spy plane. They include Chevrolet El Caminos, and the Fox-body Ford Mustangs so favored by the California Highway Patrol. For the last several years, the USAF has utilized products from General Motors, using fourth-generation Chevy Camaros, before switching over to the Pontiac GTO and most recently, the awesome Pontiac G8.
